I really hope this doesn’t become another way for people to feel superior and make value judgements on others.

MooseBreath · 15/07/2021 23:11

I will wear a mask if I am symptomatic (with a cold, obviously I won't be going out with Covid).

I will wear a mask if a shopkeeper asks patrons to out of respect.

I will wear a mask where they are required (airplanes, etc.).

Otherwise, no. My son is a toddler and is learning to communicate using facial expressions. It's been very difficult going out without being able to have him see my face except when he inevitably pulls my mask off .

I am actually planning my first shopping trip in over a year!! I am medically exempt but really didn't fancy going shopping alone! Luckily everyone I know is ditching masks (most have some are waiting till Monday!) We live in a small busy tourist town and all the local small shops have already stopped and are thriving! I live with a scientist and someone who wears full protective masks for 12 hours a day who both wouldn't wear them outside work unless enforced! So I'll definitely listen to them over those rhta have a vested interest in keeping them with no actual real life proof!

It will be. I will definitely judge non mask wearers as selfish idiots. HTH
mydailymailhell · 15/07/2021 23:31

Yes, on public transport and indoors in public areas . Got the tube a couple of times this week and there were lots of maskless people. I felt really uncomfortable, particularly as it was mainly young, unvaccinated people not wearing them

gardeninggirl68 · 15/07/2021 23:43

@AntiMaskersAreTwats judge away, you will likely be ignored and probably not even noticed

I mean, what are you going to actually do?

gardeninggirl68 · 15/07/2021 23:44

@mydailymailhell interesting. How did you know they were unvaccinated?

I have adult dc in 20's, all fully vaccinated

MsMeNz · 15/07/2021 23:47

Yes I will wear one in shops and indoor crowded areas, I was wearing them in march 2020 when ppl was giving me dirty looks and I heard ppl commenting to their kids I was over the top Nd dramatic and I will continue to do so until more is known about vaccine efficacy and I've been tested for antibodies and if it worked for me personally (at my own cost).

How will you know they're not exempt? Actually, from Monday they won't be exempt because you can't be exempt from a law which doesn't exist. So I'll put it another way: How will you know they're not unable to wear a face covering?

I just hope you keep your judgements to yourself.

gardeninggirl68 · 15/07/2021 23:50

Any judgement or kicking off from our customers then they won't be served

WhenPushComesToShove · 16/07/2021 00:05

No

Indigopearl · 16/07/2021 06:13

Yes. I have seen the models and things will be much better for everyone if we wear masks a little longer. They don't bother me though and I am not stuck wearing one all day for my job.

NatalieH2220 · 16/07/2021 06:34

Yes. Not all of us have been double jabbed yet (that want to be).

Gooseysgirl · 16/07/2021 06:47

Absolutely yes

bhy123 · 16/07/2021 06:53

Just a thought. Rather than berating people who are choosing to take the given option of not wearing masks from Monday, how about we applaud most people's compliance with mask wearing for nearly 18 months?

Vaccinations were heralded as the game changer. Vaccinated people who don't wear masks are not "selfish twats". We all have the individual choice and we should respect our freedom to choose accordingly. The insults make people even less likely to wear masks.

You trust mask efficacy over the vaccine efficacy?!

Applaud people for not being selfish? Surely that’s just what we teach our children to not be so they grow up into adults with a sense of responsibility.
IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 16/07/2021 07:07

With many not having had second jabs or being under 18 or CEV where the vaccines may not work as well it seems the wrong decision to remove a measure that doesn’t interfere with the relaxing of measures.

The more cases the more long covid and the chance of variants.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 16/07/2021 07:10

Yes I will.

FreekStar2 · 16/07/2021 07:13

When do people foresee it being 'safe enough' to stop wearing masks?

superspreader10kids · 16/07/2021 08:18

Here is the reason/s I think it's pointless wearing masks.

  1. Masks, distancing, hand washing and isolation measures stop spread of virus, but can't be maintained for ever.
  2. Lifting of these measures allow virus to spread exponentially.
  3. The Vaccine does not kill virus, a person can still carry the virus but will not die from it only pass it on.
  4. People without vaccine eventually will die from virus.
  5. So everyone on earth will need to be vaccinated periodically, regularly for ever to protect from variants.
Florelei · 16/07/2021 08:25

@FreekStar2

For me, it’ll be when we don’t have over 40k cases a day (and rising) and cases are at a much lower level like last summer.
JassyRadlett · 16/07/2021 08:34

The Vaccine does not kill virus, a person can still carry the virus but will not die from it only pass it on.

You do know that even with delta, the vaccine prevents the majority of infections and significantly reduces secondary transmission in the minority who do get infected, right?

The vaccine is probably the biggest factor we currently have in suppressing transmission. It’s why the demographic profile of this wave is so different from previous.

There’s no evidence that masks don’t also help. While we’re in a high transmission/high prevalence phase why wouldn’t we want to include something so simple?

JassyRadlett · 16/07/2021 08:36

@FreekStar2

For me, it’s when we don’t have exponential growth in cases and hospitalisations.

There is still a clear link between cases and hospitalisations - the ratio is lower but anyone saying it’s been broken is a liar. We’re currently two or three doublings away from January levels I think?
