I hardly ever take PT but again it's a choice.

It’s not really a choice for a lot of people without giving up work. I’m waiting for stagecoach to surprise me by doing the right thing and insisting on them.

MummyPop00 · 14/07/2021 08:16

Will be interesting what happens to case numbers in Scotland. Maybe we can finally see if they make an iota of difference or not.

nordica · 14/07/2021 08:47

Early research data shows mask wearing can help reduce infections by 25% if everyone wears one. www.bristol.ac.uk/news/2021/june/covid19-maskwearing.html

At a time of high infection rates like we're seeing this summer, even a small reduction is significant in stopping further spread.

Egghead68 · 14/07/2021 08:57

@LongCovidNotCoping

I don’t think mask wearing is all that efficient in terms of stopping the spread - but I’ll wear one in case it helps anyone.
FFP3 masks certainly make a big difference:

SageBlue · 14/07/2021 11:02

Yes. I think more people would continue to wear one if they thought it would be protecting themselves, and not just other people.

LongCovidSucks · 14/07/2021 12:43

FFP3 masks are £20 each... Shock

If they made these cheaper I’d invest in some.

NotMyCat · 14/07/2021 12:49

@LongCovidSucks Cambridge mask company are FFP2 and on BOGOF. Washable

My DH and I wear a fresh one everyday (teachers)- they are £5 each. I'm part time so it costs us £40 a week. Not great and really don't want to spend that much but Covid is rife in schools.
LongCovidSucks · 14/07/2021 12:57

Where are you getting yours? The amazon ones are £19.48 each...

Monkeytennis97 · 14/07/2021 13:29

Trusted PPE

ButteringMyArse · 14/07/2021 13:45

For the few minutes a week I'm actually in anywhere the mask rules previously applied, yeah I think I will. It looks to me like the basis for the mask decision was to save Boris the humiliation of having to rely on Labour votes, which isn't a good enough reason for me to change my behaviour when the negatives of wearing a mask are so minimal for me. I do see why people working in very hot environments expected to wear them for hours at a time and getting paid fuck all might have a different take, though.

Timeisavirtue · 14/07/2021 14:41

I don’t mind on buses and such but not in shops, I’ve always kept a distance from people before COVID so that’s what I’ll continue to do after. I hate people invading my personal space.

They are £5-6 each (price has recently gone up) on Amazon. Maybe the price you saw was for a box of 4?
Egghead68 · 14/07/2021 14:54

These are £34.50 on Amazon for a box of 5 (they have put the price up recently).

Are you going to continue wearing a mask
VanGoSunflowers · 14/07/2021 14:54

I’m torn.
I only ever wore one to avoid confrontation from people who think it’s their god-given right to comment on what others are or aren’t doing.
I never really believed they made much difference.

My first instinct was that I would stop wearing one. But, tbh, I think the threat of confrontation is still there so maybe I will. Just to avoid being verbally attacked.

Katefoster · 14/07/2021 14:59

I work in a hospital so Wel be wearing masks all day every day like we have been for a year and FFP3 during AGPs. I'll still wear it round the shops but not for the 2 second walk to a restaurant table

Katefoster · 14/07/2021 15:00

And for people buying FFP3 they prob aren't even the right size for your face so won't be doing anything. I have to have a force 10 mask and I failed all the FFP3 tests so I wouldn't waste your money

Monkeytennis97 · 14/07/2021 15:03

Probably right but I come away with strap marks all over my face looking like the bbc interviews with the nurses so it makes me feel a bit better about hot stuffy classrooms. Can't do anymore than that really.
Egghead68 · 14/07/2021 15:11

I agree they should be fit-tested ideally but the ones I wear are certainly a much closer fit than the other masks on the market and my glasses don’t steam up when I am wearing them. So probably better than nothing.

Cosybelles · 14/07/2021 15:18
@nordica

And good to see some Doctor’s surgeries enforcing the rule:

"To keep vulnerable patients and staff safe, Hillside Practice has taken the decision to ask all who attend the practice to continue to wear a face covering, adhere to social distancing and practice hand hygiene on entering the building.

"Thank you for your understanding and co-operation."
That's so misleading though. We are not 'safe' if we wear masks because they do not prevent the spread of disease. They may reduce it, but the focus on making things safe is crazy.

gardeninggirl68 · 14/07/2021 15:56

Well we just got told our large chain store is not making staff or anyone, wear the mask/social distance from Monday!

So that's that ... they are gone for us

Ooh, which one is that?
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/07/2021 17:06

But madness not to make things safer if you can. Masks won’t get rid of 100% of cases, but it might reduce the viral load in people who do get it and reduce the number of people who do.

Whether it’ll be enough who knows.

november90 · 14/07/2021 19:03

I think I'll wear a mask out of respect for my mum as I live with her currently and she's petrified of catching it and me not wearing a mask would upset her greatly.
I also like the idea of wearing one to avoid winter tummy bugs etc 🙈 but will I religiously wear it? Maybe not. I'm looking forward to being able to interact with people out and about again.

Yes if somewhere busy
