We need to cancel our U.K. break don’t we?

Sad

DTs off isolating due to a case in their primary bubble. DTs are fine with no symptoms. We are supposed to be going on holiday next week to a U.K. caravan but their isolation does not end until mid week.

We have a policy which will allow us to move it free of cost but I am so sad it’s another one cancelled Sad

For many, many vulnerable the vaccine is not effective or not very effective

Perhaps they should be the ones isolating then.

Thatswatshesaid · 29/06/2021 22:43

I think it would ruin the holiday for you and you can’t ask kids to lie. Cancel and re-book but plan some lovely stuff at home for the kids. Lots of baking, maybe a new toy or something they don’t normally get but always ask for.

covidcloser · 29/06/2021 22:43

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross

Those who are saying don't go, where do you see this ending?

We cannot keep everyone's lives on hold indefinitely like this. Otherwise we're all dying of Covid whether we catch it or not.

I have no idea where it is going to end. I don't have the ability to see that. But I do know that while we are at this stage where we are being asked to isolate as close contacts then that is what I will do.

I'm absolutely gutted to be sitting on my sofa right now when we should be sitting outside a caravan enjoying the warm evening, but it's the right thing to do.

OPTIMUMMY · 29/06/2021 22:44

I think you are doing the right thing by cancelling. If you're asked to isolate it's because there's been contact with a known case, anyone who doesn't follow the requirement to isolate is partly responsible for the increase in cases, greater restrictions, and more people getting sick from this. If others all followed the isolation rules your kids probably wouldn't be in this situation at all. I hope you all stay well and are able to enjoy your holiday some time in the future when you can make the most of it.

covidsucker · 29/06/2021 22:44

On the bright side, I can move it rather than having to be fully cancelled Sad

For all those saying PCR test and go if negative do you still not understand that these only pick up active infection?

Negative PCR means no current infection. It could still develop.

So sorry OP it's rubbish. I'd probably move it if I could without loosing money as my DS would be worried about breaking rules.
Or could you go and just only do outdoor activities so no pool? So hard Sad

candle18 · 29/06/2021 22:46

My 14 year old ds has been isolating 3 times over the past month due to cases in his school. I took him for pcr tests each time which were negative. The pupils affected were at least 2 desks away from him and they were all wearing masks. As long as a test was negative I would go on your holiday.

Stopsnowing · 29/06/2021 22:46

To avoid this situation I am planning on keeping dc off last week of school. We had to spend Christmas alone because school bubble burst on last day of school when they were watching a sodding video!

swg1 · 29/06/2021 22:48

Don't go. I assume you're young enough not to have had your second jab? So the worst case scenario is the lot of you poorly, miles from home, and having to drive home like that because they won't let you stay in the park. And also potentially hundreds of holiday makers being informed midway through their holiday that they are a close contact and now have to isolate.

Covidworries · 29/06/2021 22:49

For goodness sake...
You wont lose money, holiday will just be moved. Yes its disapointing but the rules are clear. Children are expected to isolate due to close contact with a positive person.
Just follow the rules.
I know some of the rules are contradictory but if you children are capable of passing this virus to other people on holiday and you go knowing this is a risk you literaly could be responsible for someones death

Chillychangchoo · 29/06/2021 22:49

@JellyBabiesFan

Agreed.

covidsucker · 29/06/2021 22:49

As an aside, how likely is it any of the DTs may have picked it up? DT1 sits at the front of the class well away from the positive case. DT2 sits directly behind the positive case. The desks are spaced out but I’m not foolish enough to think this makes a difference!

If they have no symptoms or negative LFT by day 5 could I assume they’ve dodged it?

(It won’t change my decision to cancel, I’m curious)

@Covidworries

Have you even seen the footage on sky news of the football tonight? Thousands of men hugging each other.

I mean brill whatever floats your boat and all that jazz but really?? Following the rules at this stage is an absolute MUGS game.

It’s over.

covidsucker · 29/06/2021 22:51

@Covidworries “For goodness sake ….Just follow the rules”

I am Confused

Unfortunately a lot higher with delta as the indoor transmission is looking really high - and I'm hearing anecdotally of cases showing up locally eight days or so in. Sorry :(
HayDiscoFever · 29/06/2021 22:53

Just go!
This is beyond ridiculous now!!

SecretKeeper1 · 29/06/2021 22:54

What are your timescales - when are you due to go, when does isolation end, and when are the activities? Also, how long is it since contact, because I know it can take 10 days to incubate, but it's much more typically 4-5 days.

It'd be such a shame to cancel.

Temp023 · 29/06/2021 22:55

I would go without a second thought now!

AnotherDayAnotherCake · 29/06/2021 22:57

my DC would be very anxious going away when they knew they were meant to isolate. So it would not even be a good holiday
This is a good point. Could your DTs tell people there or after that they were supposed to be isolating?

AnotherDayAnotherCake · 29/06/2021 22:58

Just caught up with your posts. I would cancel.

covidsucker · 29/06/2021 22:59

DTs unlikely to tell people that they are meant to be isolating but very likely that they will tell their teachers about their lovely holiday Grin

DT2 would be especially worried about the fact he’s meant to be isolating.

Crabbypaddy · 29/06/2021 22:59

Maybe the police will do the same as what they’re doing with Matt Hancock doing the shaggings with someone outside his bubble…nothing

YouthfulIndiscretion · 29/06/2021 23:00

I’d have been tempted to wait until the very last possible moment and get them PCR tests and go if they were negative. But that’s not an option for you because of the cancellation deadlines, so yes, you’ll need to move it. Sorry.

BluebellsGreenbells · 29/06/2021 23:01

I’d stay home based on these responses alone!

How would you feel if your holiday was spoilt by a family who shouldn’t be there and passing the infection on?

You’ve been told to isolate, I’m sunrised so may wouldn’t.

covidsucker · 29/06/2021 23:02

@Crabbypaddy one of the reasons it’s extremely frustrating is because of the football scenes , Matt Hancock et al. I really feel like a total mug for even thinking about cancelling but I know it’s the right thing to do as I know my DTs could potentially have covid .
