@TheSunIsStillShining - if your GP isn't looking after your medical record then switch GP, it's very straightforward to do.
atm not so much. In our area this was the only one who accepted new patients. We'll get there eventually.

MRex · 02/07/2021 12:53

As long as you don't need home visits you can register anywhere, near work or a neighbouring borough for example.

TheSunIsStillShining · 02/07/2021 13:26

@mrex: I know and thanks for trying to help. We'll get to that point. Atm in our reasonable vicinity there are no real options and I am an EU citizen, can get P. vacc* easily there so the immediate need is not present.

But I'm in a good situation that I can afford to travel to home country as I also need to do so from time to time anyway, as I work for a bank there. special circumstances. It was more a small musing about those who are not in any spec. circumstances.

What I've seen -regardless of covid- in the past decade in the UK is that the systems work ~98% of the time, but if you are in the 2% that is non-conform to the processes/standards/... then it can be quite difficult to get things done. Tbf: in HU it is even worse, and I would bet my non existent hat that it's no better anywhere else. So just an observation really. I expected -for some reason- UK to be different. It is the home of bureaucracy

TheSunIsStillShining · 02/07/2021 13:28

btw....
I just got a text that they cancelled my 2nd dose app.
Is this normal?

Again, not worried, had my 2nd dose on monday, would have cancelled it anyway, but feels strange. Wonder if the system would allow me to book for an AZ vacc when my first was P.

Million Pfizer jabs face being dumped after Israel-UK swap deal fails

“There were discussions between Israel and the United Kingdom regarding the possibility of transmitting vaccines, but unfortunately, despite the will of both parties, for technical reasons, this did not succeed,” said a foreign ministry spokesperson.

Channel 12 reported that Pfizer had rejected a request from Israel to extend the vaccines’ expiry date. The company said it could not guarantee the doses would be safe beyond 30 July.

A plan to transfer about 1m Pfizer doses to the occupied West Bank also fell through last month after Palestinian leaders said they could not accept vaccines close to their expiry date.

MRex · 02/07/2021 13:55

Urgh. I hate wastage. Surely it must be possible to use up some in smaller batches than 1m; say 500k to UK who can use them in time, 100k or whatever Palestine can use etc.

Could just be the system recognising that you'd already had it as a walkin, so automatically cancelling a booked one at a later date to free up the slot, and just notifying you. Sensible system design, rather than anything sinister I'd think.
MargaretThursday · 02/07/2021 14:22

@TheSunIsStillShining
Dh's 2nd one was cancelled. We suspect they suddenly realised that they were getting the "wrong" vaccine (AZ) as suddenly a lot of 20s were asked for that day.
He told the receptionist that he was at the top end of 12 weeks, and they found him an appointment for a couple of days later.

Yes, and surely giving a single jab away for free absolutely anywhere is better than the bin. It makes no sense.
MRex · 02/07/2021 14:29

Or couldn't UK second dose any who'd agree to have it early at 3 weeks? Only about 10% need to agree.

TheSunIsStillShining · 02/07/2021 14:33

@LunarSea
got it in another country, so not walkthrough.

RainbowCrayons · 02/07/2021 17:06

I also don't get why they can't give them away to the west bank for free. They don't get anything if they go in the bin so they might as well go to someone who can use them. Even if they get nothing in return. And given the proximity I'm not convinced it wouldn't help them too.

Wakeupin2022 · 02/07/2021 17:33

My understanding is the Palestinian authorities don't want them because they are near expiry date.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

Itsprobablynotcominghome · 02/07/2021 17:50

It’s absolutely criminal. Can’t help but think they could have acted much, much sooner.

Israel’s population isn’t even that vaccinated, unless they have a lot of under 12s. What’s going on there? Orthodox not having it?

And? 60% second dose, 65% first.

What are the other 35%? Pretty sure they vaccinate 12+. So it ain’t teens.

wintertravel1980 · 02/07/2021 18:34

Israel has got a very high proportion of young population (roughly 27% are in the 0-14 age bucket). This translates into roughly 20% of 0 to 11s.

www.indexmundi.com/israel/age_structure.html

The vaccine uptake will never get to 100%, especially among younger age groups. Even in the UK which has got one of the highest levels of vaccine acceptance in the world, vaccine uptake in 30-40s might be flattening out at under the 70% level (which is a bit disappointing). Of course, this is based on NIMS data so usual caveats apply.

twitter.com/VictimOfMaths/status/1410888713740095492

ONS will be in between 70 and 80% which is better but nowhere near the coverage %s achieved for older groups.

Oh wow. Fair enough then. So they are 65% out of an upper limit 80% (if that makes sense?).

Guess that’s pretty good.

As for U.K.: I always thought 30-40 would be potentially lower than 20-30 due to women ttc/pregnant being higher in 30-40 group.

JanFebAnyMonth · 02/07/2021 18:45

Wasn’t there problems with storage and roll out which prevented Palestine from taking the vaccines?

MRex · 02/07/2021 20:06

@JanFebAnyMonth

The main issue is Israel are determined to do it as a swap. I think if they gave them away then there might be more incentive to use them as better than nothing, but Palestinian authorities figure it isn't worth swapping them for vaccines with a longer shelf life that are due in a few months. I'd point them at UK results to say take at least 500k and double jab on a longer schedule, but they make their own choices. I also don't know how many they can cope with jabbing per day and that may be much more limiting; number of syringes and needles, number of vaccinators, number of doctors, space for waiting etc etc. I also think UK should take them to give earlier second doses. But then my general view on vaccines is to take anything available and bloody use it, quick.
Wakeupin2022 · 02/07/2021 20:13

I guess you are also taking chance its been stored properly

EasterIssland · 02/07/2021 23:35

@Itsprobablynotcominghome a gp friend mentioned (so I’ve noe read it myself anywhere ) that the intake of teenagers in Israel is 5% so barely any young people have had the vaccines if that’s the case. Seems like they’ve been stuck for a long time in the same numbers hence why they’ve spares as nobody is taking the know
