Will you continue to wear a mask?

I absolutely will NOT.

I'm counting the days until I can ditch the horrible things.

Yes, they don’t bother me.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 25/06/2021 20:05

@ihatefacemasks

The clue is in the username... but no bloody way will I ever wear one again. My level of loathing for them goes beyond any kind of reason. I have never bought a bottle of hand sanitiser either, because I am not a filthy bugger and washed my hands properly even before Covid came along.
There with you in every respect 🙂
UKmumtobe · 25/06/2021 20:05

@sadperson16 I take it you don't replace yours every time you use one / don't wash them after every use - like you're supposed to. Hmm

SoSadAboutMyDad · 25/06/2021 20:06

Well by the time ‘freedom day’ Confused comes, cases will be so high that they won’t be able to get rid of masks so all the moaning snowflakes on here will be very disappointed.

user1487194234 · 25/06/2021 20:10

I will continue to follow the law (mainly) but will not do things that are not legally required

yepitsmey · 25/06/2021 20:11

Nope

Carlislemumof4 · 25/06/2021 20:15

Yes absolutely, I'll continue wearing mine through the rest of this summer and the Autumn and Winter.

While I'm happy enough for it to become personal choice for a while, I also think those members of government now saying they'll ditch theirs on 'freedom day' are being disingenuous considering they must know it's likely masks will need to become mandatory again indoors at some point during the winter. Therefore would make sense to keep the rule for supermarkets, public transport etc. through til next Spring.

As someone prone to colds I've caught less since wearing my mask. Used to think most were caught by the kids at school then passed on, the pandemic has made me realise how many I must catch in the supermarket and out about elsewhere! And then pass on to them.

Don't get the animosity towards masks really, I'm just wearing what is effectively a clean, cotton hanky over my mouth and nose to stop the spread of a virus same as generations before us have done.

RidingTheWaves · 25/06/2021 20:18

Nope. The moment they become optional, I'll never wear one again.

No need to count the days. Do what you like and give a half hearted apology afterwards, just like our glorious Health Secretary.
ForgedInFire · 25/06/2021 20:22

I can't wait to never wear one again

WouldBeGood · 25/06/2021 20:23

@sadperson16

How thick are you if you believe a bit of dirty cloth across your mouth is doing anything?
And yes to this
hallfield · 25/06/2021 20:24

I've only ever worn them as a legal requirement, or when doing nursery pickup to stay on the right side of the staff. I'll stop wearing them as soon as it's legally allowed and our nursery are no longer requesting it. I don't hate them, but it's a hassle that I don't need and I've never been very anxious about catching the virus, especially now I'm double vaccinated.

Why not wear a bit of clean cloth over your mouth and see if that makes a difference?
dingit · 25/06/2021 20:28

Stopped wearing one apart from in medical setting. Sick of seeing all the politicians and toffs at ascot not wearing them, they are all taking the piss they can all fuck off

nocoolnamesleft · 25/06/2021 20:31

Considering it. Had way fewer colds than normal, and significantly fewer chest infections.

mog27 · 25/06/2021 20:31

@Elisandra

All you moaning do realise that anyone caring for you or your loved ones will be in mandatory full PPE for 12+ hours a day. Does that not make you feel a bit shitty for whining about sticking a mask on to pop into Tescos?
Full ppe wearer for 12 hours a day here and I absolutely can't wait to ditch mine outside of work. Just because we have to wear it to treat people doesn't mean we like it.
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/06/2021 20:32

@Diamondsareforever123

I agree masks are horrible but they offer protection against a potentially fatal virus. I cannot believe that some people are saying they offer no protection - they truly do. Why do surgeons wear them in operating theatres? I'll continue to wear a mask.
I'm sure my animal print mask that's only two layers of cotton can't really be compared to a what a surgeon wears!

I'll be ditching masks as soon as I can and the sooner less people are wearing them the better as perhaps we'll have less of the bloody things lying on the pavement, in bushes etc!

SouthKoreaquestion · 25/06/2021 20:33

At the moment Covid cases in my area are very high. I've been avoiding public transport, but if I had to use it at the moment I would certainly choose to wear a mask even if not compulsory. I have a washable mask with a HEPA filter. Puzzled by all these references to masks being "dirty pieces of cloth". Surely most posters have washing machines? Do they not realise that many masks are washable?

nordica · 25/06/2021 20:33

Yes on public transport, and I'll wear an FFP2 mask as those actually offer better protection for the wearer, too. Would also be happy to wear it in waiting rooms and other crowded spaces like that.

It's frustrating so many people are selfish about it though as masks offer better protection for others - if you have covid or another virus, your mask will protect others from you much more than my mask will protect me from you.

Swimminginmud · 25/06/2021 20:38

No

It’s not selfish to not want to wear a mask. This time last year we weren’t even entertaining it.
TeddingtonTrashbag · 25/06/2021 20:42

I also think that our immune systems need to be in contact with all the usual coughs and colds, because we're going to be royally fucked if something worse than Covid comes along and we've spent years hiding away, giving our immune systems no chance to function properly. So I actually think that the more people on the Tube who don't wear them, the better.
Well said!!!
We have evolved to co-exist with numerous pathogens- the reason we have functioning immune systems

PinusSylvestris · 25/06/2021 20:42

Yes in communal areas for medical appointments.

TheVolturi · 25/06/2021 20:47

In supermarkets and busy indoor places yes I think so.

81Byerley · 25/06/2021 20:48

Yes.
