Will you continue to wear a mask?

I absolutely will NOT.

I'm counting the days until I can ditch the horrible things.

Have to wear one for work and will continue to do so so if that's the requirement albeit unwillingly.

Outside of work- no chance. The novelty of being barked at by officious gits in hi-vis for inadvertently allowing half a nostril to blow in the wind has long worn off.

Jaxhog · 25/06/2021 21:10

Yes. If asked, also in shops, on public transport, maybe in lifts.

Gertie75 · 25/06/2021 21:16

No, I've already stopped in most places.

HerbErtlinger · 25/06/2021 21:16

No, my glasses constantly steam over and I either can't see or have to stop every few minutes to wipe them down. I feel vulnerable and panicky all the time when wearing them

Tuberoses · 25/06/2021 21:18

Yes. I don’t fancy catching Covid. A government decision to ditch masks will be political not scientific. Unfortunately if everyone else stops wearing them I’ll be able to go out a lot less.

I have had Covid. I still hate wearing a mask.

It'll be fine to go out if people are not wearing masks as long as they apologize afterwards. Had you not heard that the virus is very accepting of apologies and keeps away after one?
Slub · 25/06/2021 21:22

Already ditched them.

sociallydistained · 25/06/2021 21:29

No I definitely won’t and can’t wait until we can stop.

Villanelle17 · 25/06/2021 21:34

I'm exempt but if I wasn't then no.

Honey12346 · 25/06/2021 21:46

@Girlmama3

Yes but only because I’m pregnant and don’t fancy covid with squished lungs.
Still to this day people don't understand masks don't stop you from getting covid, they just lower the possibility of you spreading it
Honey12346 · 25/06/2021 21:48

@Diamondsareforever123

I agree masks are horrible but they offer protection against a potentially fatal virus. I cannot believe that some people are saying they offer no protection - they truly do. Why do surgeons wear them in operating theatres? I'll continue to wear a mask.
They wear them so their spit doesn't accidentally fall on the patient, nothing to do with a virus
Terrylovesyogurt · 25/06/2021 21:51

Not a chance. Will be having a bonfire to throw them on and dance around when this farce is over

I think you are the one who has misunderstood @Honey12346. A good quality mask will help protect the wearer too. Not suggesting that masks offer 100% protection, but they can reduce the volume of virus particles the wearer is exposed to. That may in some cases be enough to stop the wearer getting it, and in other cases give the immune system a better chance of successfully fighting off the virus.

Every scientist I've heard talk about this say a masks protects others not you. Well some say it doesn't even do that but that's another story.
Xenia · 25/06/2021 22:07

No. Been against all mandatory CV19 legislation since March 2020. We put the old before the young, internationally not just here. It was the wrong decision.

LadyCatStark · 25/06/2021 22:11

Not a flaming chance. In fact I’m about at the point of ditching them all together if only I dared to brave the judgement, even though I think most other people are only wearing them for the same reasons. Id definitely rather have the cold germs and TBH I’d rather have Covid too.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 25/06/2021 22:12

Yes. I don't go out much these days anyway, so it's not a hardship. FPP2 masks provide some protection to the wearer as well as others, I am told.

Covering my face has reminded me what a lifelong bore it is, specifically as a woman, the way people think they can get the measure of you at a glance. I'd rather be a dandy highwayman and if it starts to annoy some gammon, that's an added benefit

Honey12346 · 25/06/2021 22:12

Does anyone remember March-July period last year? Masks weren't mandated in shops or public transport. I was regularly in both and NO ONE was wearing them. People clearly weren't bothered about protecting the vulnerable then. But as soon they became mandatory the switch flipped and suddenly everyone is the most caring and empathetic person ever for wearing a mask and anyone who wants to ditch them is the devil.

Almost like the mask police don't actually give a shit about the vulnerable and just likes to feel morally superior and compete at who is best at following the rules

IndigoC · 25/06/2021 22:15

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme

I'm amazed you're only wearing cloth masks in the UK tbh - i only realised that recently when talking to my parents, as I hadn't specifically asked. FFP2 particle filtering masks have been compulsory for everyone over 15 here for so long. Surgical masks for everyone over 6. For most people its a non issue unless you want to make it one, though obviously a few people genuinely struggle. I'm always amazed how many MN ers "can't" wear a cloth mask when all my clients with autism, down syndrome, psychiatric disorders and a host of comorbidities just get on with it now and somehow their glasses function too because they use the metal clip properly,bor we help them to... Our incidence is 0,7 per hundred thousand locally.
I wear 3M FFP3 masks, buy them from eBay U.K. They give me extra confidence because they protect me, as well as protecting others.

Not true in my experience. I did, and about 1/3 of people in supermarkets were wearing them where I am. It's not a hotbed of metropolitan elitist virtue-signallers here either, worse fucking luck.
SouthKoreaquestion · 25/06/2021 22:29

Certainly at one point (and it may still be the case) the WHO were giving different mask advice according to how vulnerable the wearer was. That would have made no sense if they believed masks didn't protect the wearer. So clearly some scientists at the WHO believe that masks protect the wearer.

Scutterbug · 25/06/2021 22:30

Nope. Hate them.

SouthKoreaquestion · 25/06/2021 22:35

I agree that it's not true that no one in the UK wore masks before they were mandatory. I wore masks in indoor public places before they were mandatory. I wasn't the only one.

woodfort · 25/06/2021 22:37

I hate them but I will probably keep one in the bottom of my bag purely because I don’t want to feel awkward if I am somewhere where everyone else is wearing them.
I expect they’ll still be required on public transport and as I live in London I guess I’ll carry it around in case.
