Will you continue to wear a mask?

I absolutely will NOT.

I'm counting the days until I can ditch the horrible things.

I’m not sure. After catching Covid and suffering for 14 days I’m really scared to catch it again.

ihatefacemasks · 25/06/2021 19:36

The clue is in the username... but no bloody way will I ever wear one again. My level of loathing for them goes beyond any kind of reason. I have never bought a bottle of hand sanitiser either, because I am not a filthy bugger and washed my hands properly even before Covid came along.

ihatefacemasks · 25/06/2021 19:38

I also think that our immune systems need to be in contact with all the usual coughs and colds, because we're going to be royally fucked if something worse than Covid comes along and we've spent years hiding away, giving our immune systems no chance to function properly. So I actually think that the more people on the Tube who don't wear them, the better.

I agree masks are horrible but they offer protection against a potentially fatal virus. I cannot believe that some people are saying they offer no protection - they truly do. Why do surgeons wear them in operating theatres? I'll continue to wear a mask.
Surgeons wear a manky piece of cloth thats been worn numerous times and then put it in their pocket until the next time?
HermioneWeasley · 25/06/2021 19:38

Absolutely not

ihatefacemasks · 25/06/2021 19:40

Interesting that PP have stopped wearing them. I've been wearing them, resentfully, though genuinely forgot in Waitrose the other day. I might join the 'no longer bothering' brigade.

WeeMadArthur · 25/06/2021 19:40

I have glasses so they are a pain in the arse to wear but I think I’ll still wear one in the shops until it looks like the effect of all the vaccines is getting the spread under control again.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 25/06/2021 19:41

I'm amazed you're only wearing cloth masks in the UK tbh - i only realised that recently when talking to my parents, as I hadn't specifically asked. FFP2 particle filtering masks have been compulsory for everyone over 15 here for so long. Surgical masks for everyone over 6. For most people its a non issue unless you want to make it one, though obviously a few people genuinely struggle. I'm always amazed how many MN ers "can't" wear a cloth mask when all my clients with autism, down syndrome, psychiatric disorders and a host of comorbidities just get on with it now and somehow their glasses function too because they use the metal clip properly, bor we help them to... Our incidence is 0,7 per hundred thousand locally.

Bazoo23 · 25/06/2021 19:41

@ihatefacemasks

Couldn't agree more. Bring on the germs, we certainly need them. Some of my colleagues have tested negative for covid but been absolutely floored by simple colds. Never happened to them before.

Yes myself and my children will continue to wear them.

Oblomov21 · 25/06/2021 19:42

Can't wait. Think they make minimal difference anyway.

Bacteria, which is much, much larger than a virus. Otherwise you need to wear an N95 or better AT MINIMUM.

So most of you are not getting any benefit from those masks

They are worn in theatres to protect against blood spatter and bone dust (from drilling/sawing for joint replacements, HVAC systems never expel 100% of particles) as well as the fact they are dealing with an open wound where there is real risk of infection. A theatre is a STERILE environment so any comparisons are ridiculous
Horseyhorsey3 · 25/06/2021 19:47

Also, aerosol generating procedures require a properly fitted FFP3 mask, not some rag over the face

Chillychangchoo · 25/06/2021 19:50

Will I fuck.

towers14 · 25/06/2021 19:51

No! Never! Can't fucking stand the useless things.

UKmumtobe · 25/06/2021 19:52

Those of you who already don't wear them / can't wait to get rid immediately - do you not care about those people who are still at risk?

I am pregnant and really anxious about going to supermarkets and shops because of this. You wear a mask to prevent spreading the disease, not to protect yourself. So I'm relying on you to help keep me and my unborn child safe.

WouldBeGood · 25/06/2021 19:54

@UKmumtobe do you not care about me and how I can’t go out to things with a mask on because I can’t cope with them?

Selfishness isn’t one way.

BlackeyedSusan · 25/06/2021 19:57

Yes

Bazoo23 · 25/06/2021 19:57

@UKmumtobe

You will be absolutely FINE. Normal life has to resume. I'm not living like this forever to pander to peoples paranoia, no.

Where are you based? Are the FFP2 ones single use?
roadwarrior · 25/06/2021 19:59

Definitely, without a doubt, yes. Vaccine is not 100% effective and delta variant.

sadperson16 · 25/06/2021 20:01

How thick are you if you believe a bit of dirty cloth across your mouth is doing anything?

SGChome20 · 25/06/2021 20:03

Yes I will and I hope many others do as well especially if they have a cough or cold.

IShouldProbablyHooverMore · 25/06/2021 20:04

Ha, no. No way.
