So it has happened. Both DH and I have been sent an app notification to self-isolate. Fairly sure it was moblie phone contact rather than human. Serves us right for going shopping. At least the DC weren't with us so they can still go to school. I've had two jabs (trial) DH only one so hope we don't get it. Bored already!

From the app or actual test and trace?
If it’s the app I’d ignore. It’s not accurate at all.

Same
CharlotteRose90 · 23/06/2021 12:25

If it’s the app just ignore it. I was pinged on Monday saying I’d been in contact with a positive test but yet I’ve been alone in my house for over a week and not gone out. Its all crap.

CandleWick4 · 23/06/2021 12:29

Yeh I would ignore it. If it’s actual track and trace I would comply but not from the app.

IsabellesMissingSock · 23/06/2021 12:30

I'd ignore it too. That said, I've never downloaded the stupid app anyway

thefemaleJoshLyman · 23/06/2021 12:30

I'm a key workerand can't risk it really. The annoying thing is that it must be from a car showroom and we can't now pick up our new car. We can both work from home but will be having a super quiet weekend.

The app is not accurate and is only for guidance. I would, and have, delete and ignore

idontlikealdi · 23/06/2021 12:32

And that's why I deleted the app - it's not fit for purpose.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 23/06/2021 12:36

Again, frustratingly I was planning on deleting the app and never got round to it. Then at least I would have been free. I've told work now so there is no way I can ignore it.

Shopping is unlikely as your phone would've needed to be within 2m of the other person's phone for at least 15 minutes. Have you left your phone in a locker at the gym or been close to another table in restaurant?

Bobholll · 23/06/2021 12:53

Well, don’t go into work but I wouldn’t isolate in your house for 10 days. Who is gona know? Don’t post anything on social media & enjoy some walks etc!

Bobholll · 23/06/2021 12:56

Oh & delete the app. I got pinged as a close contact in a cafe. When we were tracked & traced, turned out the family with a covid case left the cafe 10 minutes before we arrived 🤯🙄 safe to say we didn’t isolate!

Unanananana · 23/06/2021 12:58

Ignore it. The app pings are not legally binding. You can't claim any isolation payment unless you get contacted by Test & Trace and the app doesn't share any data. Its done by bluetooth. One of my friends got pinged as her neighbour tested positive. They are separated by brick walls which covid can't travel through, no direct contact.

The app is bullshit. Ignore it.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 23/06/2021 13:02

What? You’d isolate for ten days on the say so of an app that is so inaccurate it’s a joke?

Their ‘ping’ could get to fuck as far as I’d be concerned.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/06/2021 13:02

My sister is self isolating because of the app. I told her she doesn't have to unless actually contacted. But she's having none of it! Mine is switched off as I work in a hospital.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 23/06/2021 13:03

@Invisimamma I think perhaps it was when we were sat down at the dealership, possibly a moblie phone near to both of ours. Again really annoying that we turned Bluetooth on to send each other a photo of the new car!! We weren't sat for long but probably just 15 minutes.

This ignoring the app business is why we still have cases rising. 🙄

SmidgenofaPigeon · 23/06/2021 13:04

@Thewiseoneincognito it really isn’t.

Ignoring notifications really is 💐

Ontopofthesunset · 23/06/2021 13:08

Does anyone know anyone who actually contracted Covid after being pinged by the app? I don't mean contacted by phone Test and Trace, but just the random, no idea who the contact was, ping. I know loads of people (many of my sons' friends, many of my friends' teenage/adult children) who have been asked to isolate by the app and not one has developed symptoms. I wonder how the data is being collected on this.

Spinningaround21 · 23/06/2021 13:09

Cases aren’t rising because of an app telling people to isolate when not needed. It’s because people are catching covid as we are mixing more, much more close contact with our family and friends is the most likely way of catching it.

I have contact tracing turned off the app (work in hospital) and just use for checking in. It doesn’t tell you to isolate from a check in, it apparently advises you of a potential case when you’ve been there.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 23/06/2021 13:16

@Thewiseoneincognito thanks for the flowers 💐 😂

No, covid cases rise because people who HAVE covid are mixing. Not because they are going about their lives when they happen to have been in the general vicinity of some random who tested positive when other members of the public were not in direct contact with them because of an inaccurate phone signal. Look up how viruses actually spread 💐

Considering how infectious the Delta variant is, it’s not out of the realms of possibility that people could pick it up whilst simply going about their lives. If you are pinged because of possible contact you should take it seriously and isolate especially if you have been in places for a prolonged period of time. That’s the whole point, to severe the chain of transmission whenever possible.

kimlo · 23/06/2021 13:28

@Ontopofthesunset I know someone who tested positive after the app told her to isolate. She had no idea who the contact was.

cocoloco987 · 23/06/2021 13:36

Go get a PCR test, if it's negative go about your business. If you'd deleted the app you'd not be isolating....
