Virus Passed On By Just A Few Seconds Exposure

Why we should still be cautious? News report on how infectious.

Eric Feigl-Ding (@DrEricDing) Tweeted: “NO MORE THAN MERE SECONDS” of exposure in 10-60 centimeters where one man triggers several #DeltaVariant infections with brief “fleeting” contact. Thousands of shoppers at NSW🇦🇺 mass tested. Delta called “near & present danger”.

Eric Feigl-Ding says a lot of things...

Flaxmeadow · 21/06/2021 06:53

A man who was in a shopping centre passed the virus on by just walking past other shoppers
From the link in OP
'he “brushed past a man” in his 50’s… who became case #4.'

OP posts:
Bordois · 21/06/2021 06:56

Yeah, sure.

Flaxmeadow · 21/06/2021 06:56

Eric Feigl-Ding says a lot of things...

The mainstream news reports say it has been proven by CCTV, and also the exact genome of the virus of the man who was first infected has been found in the other shoppers.

You're saying this is false? No truth in it at all?

Oh go back to bed, it’s too early for this shit!

Bordois · 21/06/2021 07:01

I'm saying that the spin Eric Feigl-Ding has put on it is false.

What?

Not sure how you can prove a virus "jumping host " on CCTV footage 🤔

Unless one was coughing/ sneezing all over the other person. Or did they share food / drink

RickiTarr · 21/06/2021 07:03

Does it matter? The specifics of transmission? All we can do now is take personal precautions appropriate to our lifestyles and risk levels. I was shielding for months and I do understand caution, but we can’t lockdown again now unless it gets really extremely bad. So it’s the basics of masks, ventilation, hand washing and social distancing isn’t it? Each to her own degree and comfort level?

Flaxmeadow · 21/06/2021 07:03

I'm saying that the spin Eric Feigl-Ding has put on it is false

It isn't coming from him. He is repeating what the Australian health authority and news reports are saying.

OP posts:
RickiTarr · 21/06/2021 07:04

Are you in Australia, Flax?

Bordois · 21/06/2021 07:06

He's putting his own spin on it.

Its something that's he's known for...

But you carry on, if people want to carry on with that level of hyperbole and hysteria its up to them 🤷‍♀️

Flaxmeadow · 21/06/2021 07:10

Not sure how you can prove a virus "jumping host " on CCTV footage

Because the strain he has is exactly the same as those he walked past. Scientists looked at the genetic makeup

This is in Australia where cases are very low anyway. How can it be that an infected person walked past numerous strangers and strangers to each other as well who caught the exact same strain, and they all caught it elsewhere? It can't be
It must have come from him

Can you explain why you care? Why we should care. I’m struggling here. I’m probably missing something obvious, but we already knew Indian variant was more infectious, didn’t we?

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 21/06/2021 07:13

This did happen, it was proven by genomic sequencing. You have to realise that Covid isn't really 'in the wild' in Oz, out only cases are in quarantine, hospital or caused by a leak in hotel quarantine. So it's pretty easy to track as there are so few cases. I heard on the radio this morning that there are now 9 cases linked to the original case, so they are talking about bringing masks back to Sydney.

No Rikki, and I'm probably giving up on this thread soon because, apart from yours, the replies so far are just a waste of time and not offering much to the discussion, apart from shut up and go away

If this is true it is very concerning for countries that have a slow role out of the vaccination. It will also be concerning for the UK.

Not claiming it didn't happen, just not in the sensationalist way presented by Eric Feigl-ding who is notorious for presenting information in a misleading and hyperbolic way!

The authorities in Australia are still investigating so unless there are some actual facts to discuss theres little point in speculation.

If it is THAT transmissible then we have very serious problems, we have always worked on close contact, but fleeting contact is something else.

People will want to dismiss this but if it were true, it would have big implications for whether large indoor events could go ahead, for obvious reasons.

Bordois · 21/06/2021 07:22

Considering how dominant Delta is here, we would probably know by now if simply walking past someone with it was enough to cause an infection.

No I know and I’m not very petrified dish minded. I just mean if we know that it’s virulent and we know to be careful, shouldn’t we just be careful? Or not, for those who don’t want to? Or legislate if we need to?

I’m trying to catch your drift as to whether this is of scientific interest only or has policy implications. Sorry I’m not on top form.
