Headache has been the main symptom on Zoe app since last year. I only had a headache with covid last year, with a loss of smell the only other symptom (that caused me to test) - but as I’m not the type to get headaches I did become paranoid and start sniffing everything… I think otherwise I wouldn’t have known I had covid to be honest.

it's mild for most people but not everyone.

Because, just like previous variants, there are varying degrees of severity depending on who catches it. Delta has made itself stand out because it’s more transmissible by a significant percentage than what we’ve had experience of.

Because it's much more transmissible, which means more people will catch it

Because it's affecting even people who have been vaccinated

Because the vaccines haven't yet broken the link between illness and death

Because even if younger people catch it and don't suffer as much, they are at greater risk of long Covid, especially women

The message in the Guardian article isn't 'It's just a bad cold, relax.' The message is 'If you're one of the ones who get mild symptoms, you might THINK it's only a cold. But you should still get tested.'

Because its the people who are going about with 'just a cold' that are spending it.

You just have to see on MN people saying I'm not having a test because I know it is a cold. Well they more than likely don't know it is just a cold

I've got a bad cold. Just tried to see if I could get a PCR test. It said no

@Baluchistan95 yes there is plenty of evidence it can and is lethal in unvaccinated people. It's more likely to put you in hospital than the Kent (alpha) varient fi. Juries out on its effect on the vaccinated but early evidence is suggesting that a single vaccine is less effective against this vatient.

We've just finished isolating after one of the kids bought it back from school. (Confirmed Delta variant following outbreak across our local schools.)

Child 1: (13) Very mild cold, slight runny nose, felt a bit tired and achey. If this was pre-covid, I would cheerfully have insisted on school!

Child 2: No symptoms at all

Child 3: Tested negative despite full exposure to rest of household

Adult 1: positive despite having both vaccines months ago. Felt tired, achey, flu like symptoms

Adult 2: Double dosed, negative throughout

Because it’s the kind of cold that puts 1 in 20 people who currently gets it in hospital.

A friend in her late forties is quite poorly with this variant at the moment. Had to visit hospital because of her breathing. She had one vaccine back in April.

We all want to get out of this, if we have to delay for a month then that’s what we do.

For 150k people - it was fatal.

That's all variants. They differ slightly in transmissibility and severity but so far we've heard reports the delta variant is both.

For others it isn't - it's fatal or requires medical ventilation .

For everyone else it's in between this
