Has anyone managed to get a closer second Jab?

LifesTooShortYOLO · 05/06/2021 22:16

My second vaccine is booked for 11 weeks after my first which I had last weekend so 10 weeks to go now until the second dose.
The problem with the system is you have to cancel your appointment in order to be able to look for any other appointments available so it's such a sambas to cancel what you've got to see if there's a sooner appointment!
Has anyone had any success in doing this?
Or should I leave it and just wait for my second on that date?

My brother apparently did but he didn’t tell me how!

MsTSwift · 05/06/2021 22:18

Cancel the second jab they automatically offer you options for second. So glad I did mine 2 weeks sooner and 20 miles nearer.

Stillgoings · 05/06/2021 22:21

Yes I did. I cancelled it and it offers you alternatives. Luckily I managed a nearer spot and brought it forward two weeks

JuneJustRains · 05/06/2021 22:23

Yes - though I then had the options of ‘see you first thing tomorrow or wait a week longer than before’, which was perturbing.

Golden2021 · 05/06/2021 22:26

I'm too worried to.

Freddiefox · 05/06/2021 23:12

Yes cancelled mine and now it will be an eight week gap rather than 12

IndigoC · 05/06/2021 23:16

Are the people succeeding all AZ?

Thiscantreallybehappening · 06/06/2021 01:07

Yes, me and DH cancelled our appointments which were originally 11 weeks after our first appointment and we rescheduled for a few days later which meant we had just over an 8 week gap.

We were both AZ

DonnieDark · 06/06/2021 01:09

I went online to do this and it says no record of me at all now, so I don't even know if my previously booked one is happening Confused

Thiscantreallybehappening · 06/06/2021 01:38

@DonnieDark have you entered your booking reference? If the system still can't find you ring 119

It did that to me when I used the booking reference for my first vaccine to check my second vaccine appointment. It says you can use either the booking reference for your first or second vaccine to manage appointments but it lies! If you have already had your first vaccine, you have to use the reference for your second vaccine.

I just cancelled my husbands second (43yo) due on the 9th of July
I can now closer to home from the 19th of June.
His 12w would have been on the 16th of July

Shezlon · 06/06/2021 06:03

Yes I did. My second was due to be 11 weeks after the first and miles away from home so figured it couldn't be much worse. Cancelled and brought it forward 3 weeks and to our second closest vaccination site. there were lots and lots of slots available for me , I could have booked for any day in that 3 weeks period.

I've just been able to rebook for 19/6 my previous appointment was 10/7 and this one is closer to home.
Thanks to this thread for making me brave enough to risk cancelling.

Cowbells · 06/06/2021 06:42

I didn't bother, though they keep pestering me to. They should let you check whether the earlier jab is in a convenient place at a convenient time before you cancel the second one. Bad system.

raspberrycordial · 06/06/2021 06:47

I went to a walk in clinic yesterday, no booking at all, took approx 5 mins from arriving at the centre. If you're in Herts have a look here covid.healthierfuture.org.uk/events/vaccination-walk-in-clinic-times there are a couple of restrictions (age, must be 28days since your first vax if you're going for your second) but couldn't have been easier.

EasterIssland · 06/06/2021 07:00

@ChairOnToast

Does this work with Pfizer or just AZ?
my dh is az, sorry can't help your question
JustMeAndWheatley · 06/06/2021 07:15

DH just booked another one online but wasn’t able to cancel the original second appointment which had been booked for him at the vaccination centre after he had his first. He tried, knowing that that slot would now be wasted, but didn’t get anywhere.

AZ

Tulipomania · 06/06/2021 07:16

Lots of threads on this already.

Summed up as: most have, a few haven't, a few haven't bothered.

Golden2021 · 06/06/2021 07:36

Most have?? Better have a look then.

Clutterbugsmum · 06/06/2021 08:50

Do you have any walk in centres near you, I know the one near me ask if you have already booked an appointment and if you have they are cancelling it when they give you your 2nd vaccine.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 06/06/2021 08:52

Yep. 3 weeks earlier so 8 week gap between doses. AZ.

Frazzled2207 · 06/06/2021 08:55

Yep I did for my dh and got one a month sooner. There were actually many more options for locations too than first time round.

whatswithtodaytoday · 06/06/2021 08:56

Has anyone under 40 getting Pfizer done this? I would love to get mine sooner - second is currently booked for 1 August.

My current plan is to wait until 8 weeks and hope my GP calls to book me in early as they do vaccinations, then if I don't hear cancel and hope I can re-book. Would be good to know if I can just get it sorted now though.
