And I suspect we will be moving to vaccinate 12 - 15 year olds now anyway given the latest news.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 04/06/2021 11:27

@RedcurrantPuff

And as for do I care if I pass it on - not really no. I don’t actively want it to happen and I’ve been vaccinated and still being generally careful, but I’m not responsible for the health and well-being of other people.
Just wondering if you actually meant this one side short sighted personal viewpoint? In other words you don’t care about your potential Covid footprint to harm others BUT want if others around you are as you or even more relaxed and risk indifference and DO pass on a potentially life changing deadly virus to you “inadvertently” because they can’t be bothered to test, wear a mask or get vaccinated etc? Maybe they are a Convid conspiracy practitioner and believer of survival of the fittest and think 3-4 million officially reported Covid fatalities is nothing compared to the 7/8 billion on Earth. What goes round comes round as this is a virus with which is evidently highly contagious and mutates rapidly to escape vaccines and has shut down large parts of the economy. I am assuming you are medically, mentally and economically well fortified to hold just a bold attitude! Perhaps you are one or the few to have capitalised economically on the pandemic pain of others? Would be interesting for you to explain your self centred mentality in case we are all missing something and need to learn more about this for public health reasons.

It's not sitting well with me that the US/UK/Israel/Europe are pushing ahead with vaccinating the under 18s while most of the rest of the world is entirely unvaccinated.
So much for saving lives.

RedcurrantPuff · 04/06/2021 11:28

I see people in shops now without masks. No one challenges them - I wouldn't.

I still wear one despite hating them and thinking they are pointless. I’ve been fully vaccinated and starting to feel like a right mug when the shops are increasingly full of much younger people (usually men) who are less likely to have been vaccinated not bothering

The government are really taking the absolute piss out of us now.

Remmy123 · 04/06/2021 11:29

Not vaccinating my 12 year old - he is not a human shield.

TheKeatingFive · 04/06/2021 11:29

So much for saving lives.

People never cared about this beyond the people they themselves know and love. It was just useful to make out that they did.

RedcurrantPuff · 04/06/2021 11:32

I don’t know what you mean @ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia your post doesn’t make a lot of sense.

I don’t expect anyone to take measures to protect me. Never have.

I’ve been fully vaccinated, still wearing the stupid masks, generally following the rules, wouldn’t go out with symptoms or if I tested positive, not sure what my Covid footprint is or how much risk I pose to others anyway, but I suspect it’s pretty low.

RedcurrantPuff · 04/06/2021 11:33

Correct.
TheReluctantPhoenix · 04/06/2021 11:35

@Remmy123,

Why should your 12 year old not do his bit? He is a child, not a god, and it could well save him a nasty illness into the bargain. Both my children will be getting vaccinated as soon as allowed (abs they are very keen).

I am sure you expected people to be careful around him when he was a vulnerable baby. Now it is his turn. One day he will once again be vulnerable.

Living in society demands the luckier make sacrifices for the less lucky in all areas. From giving up one’s seat to paying taxes, the more fortunate contract to do this to live in a pleasant humane society.

If one’s attitude is a big ‘fuck you’ to everyone else unless you get a personal benefit, expect the same from others. And children should learn this lesson, too.

RedcurrantPuff · 04/06/2021 11:37

Mine are 12 and 15 and will be getting vaccinated as soon as they are able

@RedcurrantPuff

Thanks for the reply. Got it. You are following the science proactively pragmatically BUT disappointed that others aren’t as careful or civic duty of care minded eg the visibly anti masks of young adults who all can’t selfishly self declare exemption disability when it suits.

The essence of this pandemic is people have not risk mitigated enough and so it is perpetual and will continue to cause medical and economic disaster until people are get a grip and fight it robustly by totally changing their normal behaviours until it is contained and manageable through vaccination and selected hibernation. Thanks Red Currant Puff stay safe and stay clear of Covidiots.

TheReluctantPhoenix · 04/06/2021 11:44

@MaxNormal,

‘Not human shields for ‘granny’’

Aside from the sickening and condescending ageism, this is just meaningless.

Vaccinations are positive for everyone.

And children are not gods, they are no more special than ‘mummy’ or ‘granny’.

Remmy123 · 04/06/2021 11:45

@TheReluctantPhoenix 'do his bit'? Are you kidding me? He spent a best part of a year stuck in doors away from his friends and football. He has done more than his bit thanks!

Remmy123 · 04/06/2021 11:46

Young people have lost thier lives from the vaccine I am not confident in giving my children anything, yet.

No-one should be having a medical intervention that is more risk than benefit to them. Imo that is under 18s.
Insisting that they do is absolutely using them as human shields. If anyone thinks that is ageist, take it up with covid.

But hey, it's your children, get them jagged with whatever you like.

MaxNormal · 04/06/2021 11:50

Tell that to Lisa Shaw's family.

@OffBad,

Chimneys is one extreme, the deification of children is the other.

And accounts for the selfish entitled attitudes of so many of our young today.

Children are a part of society, not above and separate from it.

TheReluctantPhoenix · 04/06/2021 12:05

Funny how a COVID vaccination for a 12 year old is seenas so different to all the vaccines we currently give to children for diseases that are not scarey at all, especially Rubella.

So, vaccinating children to foetal abnormalities is fine but vaccinating to protect granny is abhorrent?

I think people’s personal biases are being shown up quite starkly.
