@MarshaBradyo

Exactly Hamil

We have RW data now

It shows that once the vaccination programme is rolled out, firstly, that the number of hospitalisation should be much lower, and secondly, that they'll consist almost entirely of those who are unvaccinated.

If sufficient numbers are vaccinated it could squash transmission fully to the point we only have isolated outbreaks...

It's all about vaccine roll-out and take-up.... the faster the better.

cptartapp · 04/06/2021 08:29

DS1 who is 18 tested positive at the beginning of the week. He's still in bed, it has really knocked him for six. NW.
As a nurse whose service is currently on its knees I now have to sit at home for ten days whilst my clinics are cancelled left right and centre. I've tested positive for antibodies in the past and been double jabbed. I will have to self isolate further if DH or DS or indeed I, come down with it too.
The impact on health services of not keeping numbers low goes far beyond just the number of hospitalisations.

Needanewhat · 04/06/2021 08:46

It's an absolute lie than AZ offers no protection against delta. It is at least 60% and could be higher.

Why let the truth get in the way of some good scaremongering, huh?

HackAttack · 04/06/2021 09:43

Agree with littlecaf's list. I'll do all of that happily and no plans to go abroad this summer. Full lockdown, however, is a hard no.

I will see friends and family regardless of any changes. If our borders are to remain open I'm locking down here to allow selfish travellers bringing back endless variants.

HackAttack · 04/06/2021 09:44

*not locking

MaxNormal · 04/06/2021 09:52

Who counts as a selfish traveller though? DH has been travelling internationally since last autumn for work. If they totally shut the borders, we're screwed.

HackAttack · 04/06/2021 10:31

What business is he travelling for? The answer kind of depends on that. Virology specialist, great, banker, nope, use zoom

Trewawgy · 04/06/2021 10:34

My BIL has been travelling for work. He isn’t a virologist but his work can’t be done on Zoom. I love how some people think that they alone should be the arbiter on who can and who can’t travel for work.

MaxNormal · 04/06/2021 10:42

@HackAttack not something he can do over zoom, no. Crew on sporting events. I daresay many would consider that non-essential but quite frankly they can pay our mortgage then if they've got a problem with it.

Trewawgy · 04/06/2021 10:45

BIL does similar work

FaithfullyYours · 04/06/2021 10:50

@applesandoranges221

At some point surely the government have to give up peddling whatever variant they’ve chosen this week? People aren’t scared anymore and it’s not working, thankfully. Unless they can pull out actual zombies I’m done.
Same here. Double vaccinated along with everyone else in the family and friends circle. Done can't be bothered anymore. Lived the worst year of my life last year through lockdowns, took a massive hit of my mental health so excuse me if I cnt be effing arsed abour anyone else while I try to get the scraps left of my very fragile mental health together.
FaithfullyYours · 04/06/2021 10:52

@JanFebAnyMonth

I do hope that those who think “it’s all about personal responsibility” never end up in a situation when they need carers. Or state benefits.
Comparing apples and oranges. Bleh.
placemats · 04/06/2021 11:12

@TinaYouFatLard

I really don’t know anyone who gives a fuck anymore.
Which is a clear indication that a total lockdown should have happened much earlier last year. The fear then was that people would not be compliant, despite people ignoring the Government and isolating then anyway.

I see people in shops now without masks. No one challenges them - I wouldn't.

RedcurrantPuff · 04/06/2021 11:14

Christ who cares. 3.7% of people who got it so far have had both vaccine doses. Even if deaths and hospitalisations go up so what, we need to crack on and stop losing our shit every 2 minutes.

RedcurrantPuff · 04/06/2021 11:16

And as for do I care if I pass it on - not really no. I don’t actively want it to happen and I’ve been vaccinated and still being generally careful, but I’m not responsible for the health and well-being of other people.

The issue here is letting the virus just do it's thing will also have consequences on our lives other than people dying of covid 🤷‍♀️

Generally on MN, 'non-essential' means 'something I don't care about' and 'selfish' means 'people whose priorities are different from mine'.

I very much doubt all of those people whining about 'selfish' behaviour are all that 'selfless' themselves.

jupitermars1345 · 04/06/2021 11:17

Yet MN used to jump on anyone who dared suggest they take a child out for a walk who had chickenpox 🤷‍♀️

RedcurrantPuff · 04/06/2021 11:18
@Againstmachine why I had norovirus I couldn't visit my nan in a care home and so missed her 100th birthday, I didn't want her to get it but I also didn't want any of the other residents to get it too. So I was thinking of relatives and other people too.

If people don't think of others does that mean you send children into school within 48 hours of D&V episode.
But that’s when people are actually ill. Not the same as expecting healthy, largely vaccinated people to live under restrictions

x2boys · 04/06/2021 11:19

@LovelyLadyLily

You’ll have to climb over my cold dead body to get your hands on my 12 year olds.

Same. I don't mind caution - WFH should stay and so should masks - but injecting our children, who are basically never harmed by Covid with something almost entirely untested on adolescents? Absolutely no.

The Pfizer vaccine has been found ybe safe for fifteen year olds I thought a study in America proved this? And sadly there are some clinically extremely vulney children who could become very ill with covid ,my son starts at a high school In September for children with severe learning disabilities,and some children have profound and multiple learning disabilities,,tube fed on oxygen etc my son is thankfully a very healthy child ,but he will be mixing with children that are not .
placemats · 04/06/2021 11:19

A 'Christ who cares' attitude could lead to children and youth being the vectors of a new variant and those most at risk of the disease.

Again, that’s actually when someone is ill. I wouldn’t go out if I was ill from Covid either. But locking up healthy people on a “just in case” basis is ridiculous.
TheKeatingFive · 04/06/2021 11:21

I never heard of anyone concerned about passing on flu asymptomatically, yet presumably that happened all the time and led to serious illness and death.

We can’t keep losing our shit over “could”, “might”, “maybe”. That’s all we ever hear.
