Hate the pressure for vaccinating

Went to the appointment- got out of the car-stood in line, couldn’t breath, lightheaded started shaking uncontrollably and crying. Ran back to the car and came back home- I’ve failed again at this.
And I went thinking this is the last time I’ll see my daughter so come what may- still didn’t work

Now I have to call and book again but my heart beat is so high that I cannot stand up or sit up

Give your head a wobble and rebook your vaccination.

ChipsAreLife · 03/06/2021 11:38

What are you frightened of?

Itsnotyourchoiceanymore · 03/06/2021 11:42

@FullLaundryBasket I need to stop my panic attack first

Itsnotyourchoiceanymore · 03/06/2021 11:43

@ChipsAreLife blood clots and death
Long term issues which a few people have mentioned to me

OP posts:
murbblurb · 03/06/2021 11:44

all of which are much more likely with covid. Stop talking to fuckwits.

FullLaundryBasket · 03/06/2021 11:45

You’re being irrational.

Vaccination is not the issue, your own irrationality / panic disorder is the issue

jupitermars1345 · 03/06/2021 11:45

Give your head a wobble and rebook your vaccination.

Fuck sake
That's helpful

Silhillian · 03/06/2021 11:47

OP, vaccination is not compulsory. Save yourself this despair for now. Please try to get some help for your panic attacks, they’re horrible things to live with.

frizzyandfrazzled · 03/06/2021 11:48

Ring your GP. Take a supportive friend/partner. Ask the vaccination staff to help. Just say "I need help with this" to the first member of staff you see. But there is no rush. You can do this later. Tomorrow. Hope you feel better soon. Getting the jab is the right thing but it doesn't have to be until you have your anxiety under control.

FullLaundryBasket · 03/06/2021 11:48

@jupitermars1345 🤷‍♀️ The OP is being ridiculous. Indulging her isn’t going to help.

Pyewackect · 03/06/2021 11:48

Spend a day with me and you'll be fighting to get to the front of the Q.

Bordois · 03/06/2021 11:53

These threads cause more harm than good to those with health anxiety.

When you have health anxiety, the seeking of reassurance is a mechanism to feed your anxiety further.

Anyone providing reassurance is just giving the anxiety something to latch onto and making things worse (albeit totally unintentionally).

Yes definitely, explain to your GP and they might be able to make adjustments for you.

Tomorrow is a new day and hope you feel better then.

Ultimately it's not compulsory, but it does sound like you would like to have it (as you've booked the appointment).

PattyPan · 03/06/2021 12:16

Agree, talk to your GP about your anxiety, take someone with you and tell the person giving you the vaccine you’re scared of needles. Then if you try to run off again the friend you took with you can stop you and the nurse or whoever will do it without you even noticing.

Sally872 · 03/06/2021 12:21

Many people have an awareness of panic attacks if not experienced it for themselves. Talk to GP, or vaccine centre if possible. There may be something they can do to help. Early appointment so less time in the morning to be apprehensive. Perhaps they can take you straight in rather than queue.

You are trying your best, if you really can't do it focus on resolving the anxiety and try again when you are in a better place.

Whilst panic attacks are difficult you need to consider it logically as well.

Those blood clots and long term issues - far more likely with Covid itself than the vaccine. I was in hospital when I had Covid. I was rushed to a and e due to a very real risk of heart attack, stroke and clots.

Re heart rate - deep breathing, and if it turns to palpitations try doing the Vagal manoeuvres. Before I had svt treated with ablation I could sometimes manage to stop attacks using these - my heart rate could be 250+

StuffyHead · 03/06/2021 12:27

I am all for vaccinations and am getting my second AZ one next week but I really don't like the pressure people are getting to vaccinate if they don't want to.

OP do you want to vaccine? If you do then I agree phone your GP and talk through your fears with them.

Itsnotyourchoiceanymore · 03/06/2021 12:30

@StuffyHead I don’t want the vaccine when things are still evolving but I feel I have to take it so trying my best

OP posts:
PattyPan · 03/06/2021 12:32

@StuffyHead unfortunately unless everyone gets the vaccine who can (ie other than those who are allergic/immunocompromised) then we won’t get herd immunity so the pressure does need to exist if we want to stop having restrictions

StuffyHead · 03/06/2021 12:36

But it shouldn't be about pressuring people to do something they don't want.

Yes make it easy so the mobile units are really good as well as broadcasting when their is a glut of supply so people can just turn up. Also make it clear the risks and benefits so people can make up their own minds and see how to helps stop the spread. But forcing people and applying pressure I don't think helps.

And yes I am for the vaccine.

RedcurrantPuff · 03/06/2021 13:17

What has this got to do with pressure to vaccinate? It’s not compulsory. If you really don’t want it don’t go, but Covid is more likely to cause blood clots or kill people more than the vaccine for most people

RedcurrantPuff · 03/06/2021 13:20

Also good luck with speaking to your GP when they seem unable to deal with actually sick people at the moment

Aethelthryth · 03/06/2021 13:26

You're being ridiculous. The risks of Covid are far, far greater than those of the vaccine. Being vaccinated is good for you and good for society. Stop creating drama and just get it done

NorthernNic · 03/06/2021 13:32

Are there any drop in vaccination sites near you? Just turning up rather than booking an appointment days in advance might help, would give you less time to overthink it.
Alternatively, make the decision not to have it and then forget about it. Otherwise you're tormenting yourself.

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 03/06/2021 13:34

If you've ever taken the contraceptive pill, the risks of clots are greater than the covid vaccine.
