Hate the pressure for vaccinating

Went to the appointment- got out of the car-stood in line, couldn’t breath, lightheaded started shaking uncontrollably and crying. Ran back to the car and came back home- I’ve failed again at this.
And I went thinking this is the last time I’ll see my daughter so come what may- still didn’t work

Now I have to call and book again but my heart beat is so high that I cannot stand up or sit up

Why not pretend you are going for a nice coffee and chat with the nurse, then when they inject you, imagine it's being stung by a wasp or a type of beetle that bites and go "ouch you little bugger" - then you're all done x

XenoBitch · 03/06/2021 13:54

@RedcurrantPuff

What has this got to do with pressure to vaccinate? It’s not compulsory. If you really don’t want it don’t go, but Covid is more likely to cause blood clots or kill people more than the vaccine for most people
OP has another thread where she said her family is putting her under huge pressure to get the vaccine.
Itsnotyourchoiceanymore · 03/06/2021 13:54

@Aethelthryth drama? With people like you around no wonder mental health is still a taboo subject

@Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting no never had the contraceptive pill

@GorgeousNightingale yes I’ll have to push it to the back of my head - maybe I’ll have to have my earphones on so I drown everything around me. Is it up to 4 weeks that i have to worry about clots?

The people who are calling OP ridiculous have no understanding about what clinical anxiety and panic attacks are like. They are not rational, but they are very real.

The body is reacting as if there is a grave and imminent threat to safety - when there isn’t almost certainly isn’t. Calling sufferers names will not change their response and is cruel.

OP, I second some of the suggestions already made to see if the centre can accommodate you so you don’t have to queue etc. Relaxation techniques may help. Ultimately you are more at risk from Covid than from the vaccination, but I appreciate that your anxiety won’t accept that.

Precisely. If you don't want it don't have it but don't waste any more appointments or people's time. Just tell those around you you aren't going to have it.

I think your anxieties are irrational and I disagree with your concerns but I'm not you. If you just own your stance to those around you you'll stop booking for a vaccination you don't want.

GorgeousNightingale · 03/06/2021 13:56

Honestly, inventing a story in your head might help - and music is a good idea ! Put some heavy rock on. Don't give clots a second thought.

everybodysang · 03/06/2021 13:57

Earphones are a good idea. I don't know why your vaccination centre is like but at mine they were very kind and I am sure if you were able to explain you were extremely anxious they would help you - perhaps getting it over with more quickly and letting you keep headphones on?

BlueDucky · 03/06/2021 14:00

I'd try and work on your anxiety with your GP and then rebook. Don't waste the appointments until you've got it a bit more under control.

Duploisthebest · 03/06/2021 14:09

OP please see your GP to discuss this as he may be able to give you something to calm you down before hand. Earphones are a good idea too.
If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? The extremely rare blood clots you will have heard about on the news are associated with the astrazeneca vaccine however first vaccine of choice for under 40s is now pfizer or moderna?

BlueDucky · 03/06/2021 14:16

Your GP might be able to book you into the local GP hub rather than having to go to a massive stadium/hall do you think that might help?

theotherfossilsister · 03/06/2021 14:22

It must be so horrible to feel like that. I'm sorry. I know you know logically that the risks are very low but knowing that doesn't stop the irrational fear. It's been a hell of a year.

Try again but be kind to yourself and remind yourself how well you are doing even by booking an appointment and standing in the queue.

theotherfossilsister · 03/06/2021 14:23

Also you are absolutely allowed to ask one of the staff for help and support when there. Just saying something like, 'excuse me, I'm really anxious, would you be ok to just stand with me for a minute.'

yikesanotherbooboo · 03/06/2021 14:29

Take someone with you.
Explain that you have anxiety.
At our centre you would be well cared for in a side room.

Endofether · 03/06/2021 14:34

Do you want to actually have the vaccination OP?
You don’t have to!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/06/2021 14:36

If you've ever taken the contraceptive pill, the risks of clots are greater than the covid vaccine

To be fair, that's why I stopped taking the pill.

beguilingeyes · 03/06/2021 14:44

"Long term issues which a few people have mentioned to me"

How can there be any long term issues when the vaccine has only existed for a few months?

Just been reading about a two year-old in Australia who's been hospitalised with the virus.

Thisisus909 · 03/06/2021 14:47

Ask your doctor for some short term anxiety medication. This is really important so worth getting support with your mental health to see it through. All the best.

Where I went - they seemed very sympathetic to people with anxiety and did not make them queue . They were all sitting in a room and someone (a doctor?) was chatting to them each at length about their anxiety and saying they did not have to have it etc. In the end they all had it. I was with them because I had vertigo and couldn't queue.

Itsnotyourchoiceanymore · 03/06/2021 14:56

You don't have to worry about clots. That's your anxiety talking. You can work to not worry about clots.

Can you look for a good CBT or hypnotherapist in your area and do some quick tips?

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/06/2021 14:57

X-posted. So don't. Unless the 'have to' is your own reasons.

I honestly think she'd be better off developing tools to be assertive with those pressurising her.

OP you don't want the vaccine. Most of the posts are about addressing your anxiety in order to have it. I'm as pro vaccine as it's possible to be but unless you have the confidence to own your decision you won't feel any less anxious.

AbjectHorror · 03/06/2021 14:59

I fucking despair at some of these responses. @FullLaundryBasket you should be ashamed of your callous response. I hope you never have to suffer with panic disorder, which is a real, hideously unpleasant anxiety disorder that has an enormous impact on the sufferer. OP is clearly struggling with her mental health - do you not think she'd just stroll in and get vaccinated if she felt able to? Have some compassion.

OP, I think your first port of call is seeking help for your panic and anxiety. Contact your GP and self-refer for CBT. You don't have to get vaccinated right this minute. You can spend time working through your anxiety first and finding some coping strategies that will help you get there.

If you want to give it another go, as others have said, grab the first member of staff you see and explain you're feeling panicked and anxious and seek their assistance. Sometimes a handhold to walk you through it and explain the process will help. There's no shame in anxiety.

If you don't want to then you don't have to. No matter what people say. It is not compulsory.
