Hate the pressure for vaccinating

Went to the appointment- got out of the car-stood in line, couldn’t breath, lightheaded started shaking uncontrollably and crying. Ran back to the car and came back home- I’ve failed again at this.
And I went thinking this is the last time I’ll see my daughter so come what may- still didn’t work

Now I have to call and book again but my heart beat is so high that I cannot stand up or sit up

I can't stand the phrase "Give your head a wobble". I'm increasingly seeing it all over this site. It just has such an air of superiority and a complete lack of empathy.

The OP obviously has pretty severe anxiety and I think she has actually posted multiple times about this under different usernames. "Give your head a wobble" is not an appropriate or helpful thing to say to someone suffering with mental health issues.

As for the vaccine question, it's a difficult one. I do actually agree with the people saying there needs to be a certain amount of pressure around having the vaccine, both socially and from the government, in order for it to work. That necessary pressure does have an unfortunate impact on people with severe anxiety, though.

OP - I really think you need to make a decision on this - having it or not having it - and follow through with that. If you have tried multiple times and simply can't do it then don't keep fretting over it, it is really not good for your mental wellbeing.

I feel it is really important for everyone to have the vaccine if they can, but honestly, if you've truly given it a good go and you are just too anxious, then just don't have it.

Either way I think you need to decide because you are going to make yourself ill with all this anguish.

XenoBitch · 03/06/2021 18:19

Be careful, no one is allowed to criticise the ones that panic about pretty much everything these days. God only knows how our species survived. First world problems - panic attacks, needle phobia, over exaggerated risk of vaccine - for people with real worries and problems in the developing nations they really don't have time for these fears and worries

Fucking hell, this thread is turning into a trashfire with "helpful" comments like this. Keep those thoughts to yourself!
@ChipsAreLife blood clots and death
Long term issues which a few people have mentioned to me
Far more likely you'll get this without the vaccination. I'd re-book. I do sympathise with the panic attacks though!

TotorosCatBus · 03/06/2021 18:26

Is there a drop in site near you? There would be no build up and if you "fail" then there's no guilt about wasting a dose.

I'm sorry that you have had some dickish replies. Do these people really think that's going to persuade your panic attack to not subside?

June2021 · 03/06/2021 18:28

@Bunnyfuller

The pill is more likely to cause blood clots.

Flying is more likely to cause blood clots.

Anyone talking about ‘long term’ effects is talking out of their arse because it hasn’t been around long term.

Although it’s a variant on the annual flu jab, why can’t people read the science rather than ‘some friends’ ffs

Logic doesn't work with so many people now - I wouldn't bother they tend not to listen to facts and just witter on about risks etc - it's the new epidemic - lack of common sense
faerin · 03/06/2021 18:29

My god I hate this new "Give your head a wobble" crowd.

It's like a brand new breed of sanctimoniousness.

The pandering doesn't help either. The stroking of the worries and spreading of 'risks' which are blown out of all proportion is quite unhelpful. I've never known so many people to panic about everything - it's a growing epidemic - how on earth does anyone leave the house - which in itself carries a risk
feckwit · 03/06/2021 18:31

I have such bad anxiety I don’t leave the house. When I went for my vaccine I took my husband as my carer. He told them I suffered huge anxiety and they jumped me to the front and let me sit in a side room after so I want with other people. Could you take somebody with you to help you? Much love, panic attacks are just awful x

You really do not understand anxiety, and your comments about it to someone who is clearly suffering was cruel and totally uncalled for.

Mischance · 03/06/2021 18:39

Talk to GP - s/he can give you something to calm you as a one-off to get the vaccination done.

Itsnotyourchoiceanymore · 03/06/2021 18:43

There are some vicious posters here...I will drop off this thread as it’s not helping my state of mind.

Empathy seems to have gone out if the window, I can turn back and call names for many posters here but that’s not who I am...

@Bordois

These threads cause more harm than good to those with health anxiety.

When you have health anxiety, the seeking of reassurance is a mechanism to feed your anxiety further.

Anyone providing reassurance is just giving the anxiety something to latch onto and making things worse (albeit totally unintentionally).

yep seeking constant reassurance and on and on and on but the problem doesn't get resolved
Justecelaoui · 03/06/2021 18:49

Easy: DO NOT TAKE IT. I for one, will not have it. I respect and understand those who do. But surely if it gives you so much grief, you'll be overwhelmed with anxiety once you have it? Usually those who want it have this happy go lucky attitude, you clearly don't.

BillieSpain · 03/06/2021 18:53

Disgraceful bullying on this thread. From people I am pretty sure are not scientists/doctors or work for the WHO.

Vulnerable are vaccinated... great. The vulnerable need to be vaccinated in other parts of the world now. 60 and over.

The point is the OP doesn't have to have the vaccine if she doesn't want to but starts yet another thread about not wanting it and feeling bullied into it. People say don't have it then and she doesn't listen at all. No one has to have it. If she doesn't want it due to anxiety about what might happen if she has it and doesn't wish to look at peer reviewed actual evidence then so be it - don't have it.
beguilingeyes · 03/06/2021 19:04

It's about more than that. Only around 30% of the population have had both doses... there's still the risk of new variants spreading among the unvaccinated population... including children. Schools are open and poorly ventilated and the government won't release the figures about transmission in schools.

DatingDickheads · 03/06/2021 19:06

@Itsnotyourchoiceanymore be easy on yourself. I understand how you feel! X

RulesRulesRulesRulesRules · 03/06/2021 21:56

Do you ever get in a car?
Literally in the 2nd sentence of her OP! Confused
goodmorningsunshine7 · 04/06/2021 09:10

OP trust your gut. Don't ever feel pressured into getting a vaccine that doesn’t yet have any long term studies or doing anything you don’t feel comfortable with for that matter.

Some of these comments are vile!

Nerdygirl · 04/06/2021 09:31

I just don’t understand the willingness to take the vaccine but more so pressure others to do the same. Many healthy people had the virus and have the anti bodies or wil contract it mildly . If the vaccine stops you getting very ill then why does it matter ? There are always variants and always will be.

Not wanting to put a still in trial vaccine in your body doesn’t make you an anti vaxxer as I am sure most people in this position have had every other tested vaccine. It just makes you cautious and guided by the data showing the likelihood of serious issues

The vaccine also decreases the transmission of the virus. I want to take it so we can get out of lockdown! I was in the first school year to be given the HPV jab and no doubts ever crossed my mind about that either despite it also being new.

Leanandmean31 · 04/06/2021 09:56

The idea that we will be rewarded with an end to lockdown once everyone is vaccinated is just a myth though. Nearly everyone who is vulnerable has been vaccinated and there are still restrictions. There are variants that are resistant to the vaccine too and there is no clarity on how long any immunity will last. Willingly taking an experimental vaccine because you think you will get rewards if you do is your choice. However, it’s understandable that many people are much more cautious.
