How many of you have been eating inside at restaurants now?

We ended up needing to eat today in a city we were visiting (long story).
Tried lots of outdoor places but no tables free so we went into a huge fairly empty restaurant.
Bit by bit, it filled up and they ended up seating people quite closely together.

I have had both vaccines - second one was around 10 days ago.

Nobody except the waiters had masks on.

@Sirzy I'm curious, why do you feel safer in a restaurant than a shop? The virus spreads in the air, all around the room you're in - beng seated with people you know doesn't matter if the people on the next table are breathing out Covid for the hour you're sat near then while eating.

I'm happy to go in shops that are reasonably well ventilated - with a door to outside and not too deep - but not big shops with aircon like a department store, where there's no fresh air.

Sirzy · 31/05/2021 07:35

Because the restaurants I have been in have proper social distancing measures so nobody else is close, they all have much reduced capacity.

Whereby in a shop everyone is walking around and you have to trust others to be doing things right much more.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/05/2021 07:38

Yes, why wouldn't I?

LeafBeetle · 31/05/2021 07:43

Not yet but we're planning to today and looking forward to it!

BooblePlate · 31/05/2021 07:52

Yes I’ve eaten inside a couple of times and it was lovely.

I’m curious though - if you were so reluctant to eat inside and weren’t having any luck with restaurants were there no takeaways or supermarkets where you could have bought food to eat on a bench or in a park?

insancerre · 31/05/2021 07:57

Yes, went last Saturday to my favourite local Greek restaurant
I’ve missed restaurants
I wasn’t the least bit concerned, but then I have been working throughout the pandemic in a nursery, no social distancing there and no cases of Covid either.

LactoseTheIntolerant · 31/05/2021 08:01

Of course we have. I think some people have lost all perspective on this. More people die of road traffic accidents but willingly get in a car every day or cross a road. You've had both vaccines get on with your life!

Imnothereforthedrama · 31/05/2021 08:05

You seriously thought people would be sat wearing masks ? If your walking around indoors you are required one but sat down no .
Tbh op what I’d recommend is booking somewhere before you go walking around on a sunny bank holiday hoping to be squeezed in I wouldn’t do it because I know it’d be busy .
Go on a weekday when it’s quieter and book next time you’ll notice the difference.

DinosaurDiana · 31/05/2021 08:06

I have, and it was good to see the restaurant busy and making money.

Bagelsandbrie · 31/05/2021 08:07

We’ve eaten out (inside!) loads of times! I’m in the clinically extremely vulnerable group and had both vaccines. I’m not putting my life on hold anymore.

Whatalottachocca · 31/05/2021 08:10

Yes, have eaten in restaurants/coffee shops several times now. Have been to the cinema, in people’s houses and hugged people. It’s called living and it’s good for you. 😃

Scarby9 · 31/05/2021 08:11

Twice.
First time great - large airy room with lots of space between tables.
Second time we had planned to eat outside but it was raining so went inside to a table in an almost empty room. While we were eating every table filled - too close for my comfort- and a lady on the table behind us coughed and coughed. Not so happy there although the infection rate in our area is minuscule so rationally I know we should be fine.

UsedUpUsername · 31/05/2021 08:19

It is just boggling me now. At the time, it felt great to be doing something more normal, but it feels a bit scary!

Doing something completely safe and normal shouldn’t feel scary. You were literally in more danger just driving or walking there

lljkk · 31/05/2021 08:22

Not me. I only eat at restaurants a few times a year anyway. I don't actually like restaurant food much.

Either on hols (I can't get my head around holiday in 2021) or as work meetup (still banned from office though).

I suspect DH has been in a cafe or 2 with his sport club, but they normally prefer to sit outside with their bikes, anyway.

loulouljh · 31/05/2021 08:24

Would be happy to. No jab.

RoseMartha · 31/05/2021 08:25

Been inside a cafe twice. It was fine and they had rules in place.
As a general rule I dont go in restaurants more than few times a year in normal circumstances.

ufucoffee · 31/05/2021 08:28

Me. And really enjoying it.

Ragwort · 31/05/2021 08:29

Yes, been away for the weekend and eaten inside on four occasions, didn't bother me in the slightest, had a really good time. I work in retail, I am mingling with people all the time.

katienana · 31/05/2021 08:35

Yes had a lovely Sunday lunch yesterday and also played Bingo indoors on Saturday. It's great being able to eat inside! Even though it was sunny yesterday I preferred to be inside to get my kids out of the sun.

AuntieMarys · 31/05/2021 08:37

We've eaten out twice a week as we would pre covid...plus coffees, drinks etc in cafes/bars. And have 3 breaks away before the end of July so more
Eating out.

UseOfWeapons · 31/05/2021 08:38

Nope, I haven’t.
Nothing to do with fear of CV19, just that I don’t agree with the fact that I have to give details for T and T , or log in via the app.
Last summer, to eat outdoors, this was not necessary. I love eating out, but my individual protest is not to bother until this ridiculous practice has been discontinued. Sadly, I think it will take a while, but I can wait.

Leonardsgirl · 31/05/2021 08:40

Yes, absolutely. Things feel practically normal now. I'm enjoying everything I can while we are able to.

In my area even of London even buses have removed the tape shutting off seats near the driver and removed maximum occupancy signs. Another small step.

Remmy123 · 31/05/2021 08:43

@Lovelydaybut why scary you have had both jabs?!

Live your life and enjoy it!

scaredsadandstuck · 31/05/2021 08:46

Yep - went for a meal with friends indoors this week. It was nice to be out. We were asked to wear masks if we were moving around the restaurant - going to the loo etc - which everyone was complying with - but not sat at the table.

Lovelydaybut · 31/05/2021 08:46

I see your point about getting food from the supermarket- the kids were very hungry a d the place seemed very spacious, quiet and airy, so we went in.

I suppose that it was worrying me last night as I do have a health anxiety and covid has t helped at all.
I just needed a bit of support.
I feel a bit better this morning but I was a bit worried last night.
The trip was a long way from home, had to be done for various reasons and it would have been hard to book a place as we had no idea when we would need to eat or where anything is.
Should probably have taken a picnic!!
