How many of you have been eating inside at restaurants now?

We ended up needing to eat today in a city we were visiting (long story).
Tried lots of outdoor places but no tables free so we went into a huge fairly empty restaurant.
Bit by bit, it filled up and they ended up seating people quite closely together.

I have had both vaccines - second one was around 10 days ago.

Nobody except the waiters had masks on.

I’m on holiday, eating out three times a day, then sitting in the bar watching a (crap) singer every night.

It’s bloody lovely to feel normal again.

Abraxan · 31/05/2021 08:54

We are in holiday in Scotland this week and last weekend visited London for the weekend. And for the two weeks since May 17 we have eaten, sat indoors, in restaurants and local pub a few times now.

We wear masks to go but remove them once seated, as per the rules. I don't keep my mask in when sat as it isn't needed and I haven't seen anyone else doing that either.

in all the places we have been sat at a distance from other people and never sat directly opposite them. The places have all had doors and/or windows open for some ventilation.

I work in a school so being in close contact without masks to many people isn't new to me since the pandemic and returning back to the classroom (had some time out due to being vulnerable and also my role meaning I was best working at home in full lockdowns) DH has been back in the office full time for a few weeks now too so again being out and about isn't strange for him either.

Both dh and I are fully vaccinated, and I've also had covid 7 months ago (my antibody test also came back positive last week so still have them since then.) The risk of covid to and from me and dh is incredibly low tbh.

We are loving our new found freedom!

It may depend on area?

Where I am, lots of very frightened people.
Distinct lack of indoor eating going on, and those with outside tables, dont appear to be very busy either.

Donitta · 31/05/2021 09:15

I’m not worried about myself, I’ve had two vaccines and I’m fairly confident that it’s safe for me to eat indoors. But I am worried about my unvaccinated DC so I’m still avoiding restaurants and anywhere that people don’t wear masks.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 31/05/2021 09:20

@TO12T39FRQ

no. got used to being without them. actually didnt miss the mediocre, over priced food in quite drab and shabby surroundings, with staff who seemed bored and robotic..
You are clearly not eating in the right restaurants then
Willyoujustbequiet · 31/05/2021 09:21

No I haven't and I won't be either. Its just not worth the risk.

Icequeen01 · 31/05/2021 09:21

Yes a couple of times. One of the occasions was to celebrate my DS having submitted his last essay for Uni. We weren't able to celebrate his 21st earlier in the year and it's looking doubtful he will get a graduation this year so the least we could do was to buy him a bloody massive steak in his favourite restaurant. DH and I are double jabbed and have had Covid. My DS21 hasn't been jabbed but has also had Covid. I guess we are about as safe as we are going to get.

IsabellesMissingSock · 31/05/2021 09:21

Yes I have been eating indoors in restaurants loads lately.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 31/05/2021 09:22

No, we aren’t fully vaccinated yet and the DC aren’t at all so not worth the risk for food when we can eat at home.

Tiredmum100 · 31/05/2021 09:29

Ate out for the first time on Saturday. Felt safe and comfortable. We were at the back of the restaurant, wall onside, screen the other side. I've booked to meet friends tomorrow evening and booked to go out for my birthday in a few weeks. Half of us had had our full course of vaccinations and the other half one.

hellcatspangle · 31/05/2021 09:32

Me, we've been to several bars and restaurants indoors, didn't feel unsafe in any of them.

RaspberryCoulis · 31/05/2021 09:32

We have. It's lovely to be doing something more normal again, isn't it? Having a meal where you don't have to wash up is a real treat.

If I never hear the word "safe" again it will be too soon.

Leonardsgirl · 31/05/2021 09:46

A genuine question - where are people living that they don't feel safe? Is this in the UK? Where I am life seems to be pretty much back to normal and even people I know who were terrified to even venture out of the house months ago are now doing everything, including eating in restaurants, again.

I wonder this too. Even my 90 year old neighbour who was clinically vulnerable and self isolated from February 2020 is now going for walks into town.

As other posters have said driving or walking across a road are statistically more likely to kill you than eating indoors. The logic of thinking covid is a greater risk baffles me.

maddiemookins16mum · 31/05/2021 09:55

We went for Afternoon Tea yesterday, it was just lovely. DP stayed at home so just me DMIL and DD who at 17 is now a huge fan. It was such a treat, we put on pretty dresses and giggled like school girls for 90 minutes, it was the first time we’ve eaten out since Sept 9 last year. Loved it.

Are you all never leaving the house at all then?
SoLongSister · 31/05/2021 09:57

I'm CEV and I've been inside a restaurant to eat.

The only reason I haven't been more is because I saved so much blood money not eating out over the last 15 months that I'm trying not to go out to eat to the same level that I did pre-covid.

My parent died of Covid and to be honest it's just made me more determined to live life and not be scared.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 31/05/2021 09:59

Strange question given the post is about eating in establishments. Perfectly possible to avoid doing without impacting on life.

PegPeople · 31/05/2021 10:00

I'm so sorry for your loss but can I just say how refreshing it is to see such a positive attitude to life. I'm sure your partner would be so pleased you were enjoying life and making the most of even the smallest activity. Flowers

PegPeople · 31/05/2021 10:02

*parent not partner. Oh for an edit function.

Yeah, I don't get it. People saying "it's not worth the risk" - when WILL it be worth the risk? Covid isn't going anywhere now so by that logic you will never feel safe.
VoyageInTheDark · 31/05/2021 10:08

Yep, twice. And I'm pregnant and not yet vaccinated. It would make me depressed to not go out and do normal things while I have the chance

CarrieBlue · 31/05/2021 10:17

I’ve been stuck in a room with 30 strangers not wearing masks for most of the last year, a restaurant is hardly my biggest worry.

LouLou198 · 31/05/2021 10:22

Once, went into a cafe last week when our shopping and dd was hungry. I won't be rushing to do it again. I've been double vaccinated so not really worried about Covid, just don't want to be contacted via track and trace and have to isolate again. Can't afford the time off work as dh self employed and don't want dc to miss any more school.

ApolloandDaphne · 31/05/2021 10:26

Yes I have been meeting my 81yo DM weekly since we could eat inside in Scotland. We are both glad of the return to some normality. I have also been to the pub and out to eat with my DH. It is fantastic!
