How many of you have been eating inside at restaurants now?

We ended up needing to eat today in a city we were visiting (long story).
Tried lots of outdoor places but no tables free so we went into a huge fairly empty restaurant.
Bit by bit, it filled up and they ended up seating people quite closely together.

I have had both vaccines - second one was around 10 days ago.

Nobody except the waiters had masks on.

Where I am everything seems back to normal now apart from the mask wearing until seated. Had a day at the races on Sat, great atmosphere then back for drinks in a few bars and a meal in a restaurant- all full, so good to see people enjoying themselves and businesses booming again. I'm not sure why anyone would be afraid when most people are either vaccinated or have had covid (or both).

Icequeen01 · 31/05/2021 10:27

@LouLou198

Once, went into a cafe last week when our shopping and dd was hungry. I won't be rushing to do it again. I've been double vaccinated so not really worried about Covid, just don't want to be contacted via track and trace and have to isolate again. Can't afford the time off work as dh self employed and don't want dc to miss any more school.
I've switched my App off now. I had it on for over a year but I'm not willing to do it any longer.

Last weekend we went to Pizza Hut, have had breakfast today and yesterday at the premier Inn and will be stopping at the services on the way home. I have never felt unsafe or at risk at all in the past 15 months so not starting now.

tappitytaptap · 31/05/2021 10:56

Yes. I’ve never seen anyone wearing a mask inside other than walking to the toilets/their table (other than the staff). Got another booked tomorrow with DS1 aged 5 as I have a day off work. Cant wait!

Spinningaround21 · 31/05/2021 11:56

At this point people need to di what makes them happy and comfortable, if they want to stay home fine but if they want to enjoy meals out and support business then also fine. Lots are vaccinated and want to live a bit.

My dad is clinically vulnerable but fully vaccinated. The lockdowns were hard on him shielding and he needs to be living he hasn’t a long life left.. Even though he is close to a hotspot he is out and about again in shops etc. He is very careful with masks and hand hygiene but there is a balance to actually living again.

We went to a Lake District town last week and a high proportion of the tourists were probably classed as vulnerable due to age: over 70s. They were living life to the full on walks and seemed to be enjoying eating and drinking inside too. Maybe they want to live life again too.

I say this as a very lockdown/rule abiding NHS healthcare professional, but things are open now and I need some of my life and enjoyment back now. I’ve done everything I can the last 15 months to the detriment of my mental health. where as the government still can’t close borders quickly to protect us.

motogogo · 31/05/2021 12:06

Several times since they reopened. Places are packed here

SoLongSister · 31/05/2021 12:07

@PegPeople

Thank you. It was really tough losing my parent but if there ever was a time to remain positive, Covid is it.

RedRosie · 31/05/2021 12:08

We have. Several times. And it's been wonderful.

Leaving massive tips as well (may need to knock that in the head at some point!) as we've saved so much money during the past year, I want to put some back into the economy.

feellikeanalien · 31/05/2021 12:19

Yes several times with DD. It was so nice not to have to cook and to see people enjoying themselves.

I understand that some people are still nervous but for me it felt quite liberating.

StuffyHead · 31/05/2021 12:22

I have and it's great to be finally back inside. It doesn't bother me at all about eating inside even last year when cases were much higher.

skyvv90 · 31/05/2021 13:33

I've started eating indoors a couple of times but only in spacious well ventilated type places. Not really comfortable with more close quarters type places until I've had both vaccines.

Backofbeyond50 · 31/05/2021 13:37

Yes of course.

Kyph · 31/05/2021 14:02

I just had a weekend away. I am CEV and shielded for about 9 out of the last 12 months. I've had two doses of vaccine and if that's not enough I give up.
We went to three different restaurants and a pub. Everyone wore masks unless seated, tables were well spaced apart from one place.
I felt fine, however this was in the evening and there were only adults present. Had there been children I would have felt less comfortable as I feel that children are much more likely to be carrying the virus.

Even then I believe that if I catch covid now I am unlikely to be seriously ill. There has to be a point at which I take the risk and mix with people.

wasthataburp · 31/05/2021 14:05

And? What's the problem?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/05/2021 14:06

We had lunch out yesterday and it was great to feel normal again.

wasthataburp · 31/05/2021 14:06

@Lovelydaybut

We had masks on whilst we ordered and the. Took them off to eat. This particular place didn’t seem to distance the tables out tbh. But yes, we were a bit stuck and had hungry kids so we ended up inside. It is just boggling me now. At the time, it felt great to be doing something more normal, but it feels a bit scary!
No offence but you do need to start going out more often and getting used to it if you are suffering this amount of anxiety just going to a restaurant
HelloMissus · 31/05/2021 14:11

Yes, several times since we’ve been allowed. An absolute joy not to be freezing.

Spikeyball · 31/05/2021 15:47

We visited a touristy town last week and the first 2 pubs we tried weren't now serving food outside so presumably must be busy inside. I am keeping to outside because a don't want to do 10 days inside with ds if we become a contact.

IndigoC · 31/05/2021 16:27

Nope. Never cared that much for restaurants and I won’t be doing anything high risk until after my second vaccine with the Indian variant making one dose unsafe.

LovelyLadyLily · 31/05/2021 16:28

@wasthataburp

And? What's the problem?
Do people really not understand why others might be nervous in crowded indoor spaces during an ongoing pandemic or are they just being weirdly aggressive?
NotBot · 31/05/2021 16:38

Yes, loads. Restaurants, cafes, softplay, cinema, trampoline parks .. I went to 5 softplays in the first week 🤣

You’ll find me out enjoying life 🙌🏼 I liked that trampolining counts as exercise so we didn’t need masks! Cos they are WARM in softplay!

IcedPurple · 31/05/2021 16:47

I can't understand why someone would actively choose to spend time in a crowded indoor space and then complain that it was in fact a crowded indoor space.

AfternoonToffee · 31/05/2021 17:00

They really are not crowded though, I forgot we also went to a Morrison's café. Everywhere we have been has been a lot quieter than usual and people spread much further apart.

cherryberrylicious · 31/05/2021 17:05

Went today, lovely gastro pub! Felt so nice and normal

Gothichouse40 · 31/05/2021 17:06

Yes, both on holiday to Northumberland and back home. Ive had first vaccination. I wear a mask going in. Once I sit down, I remove it to chat, eat and drink. If I need to leave the table for any reason, I put my mask back on. I also use hand sanitiser before and after eating. I haven't been to pubs, just cafes and restaurants.
