Third wave - do you think we’ll lockdown again? When will this end?!

Notsure6 · 20/05/2021 20:16

Just that really. Keep seeing that we’re on the cusp of a third wave. What do you all think this will this mean for locking down or our current (limited) freedom?

Look at the numbers for your area, what do you think?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/05/2021 20:23

It's all just media hype right now. I don't think we will lock down again unless there is a dramatic rise in hospital admissions.

PinkSparklyIncorrigibleDunce · 20/05/2021 20:25

I agree with @Waxonwaxoff0. I think things will have to get a lot worse for the government to lock us down again as they know that a lot of people won't comply with yet another lockdown.

Wildswim · 20/05/2021 20:27

It will only end when enough people stop complying and start resisting.

nipersvest · 20/05/2021 20:27

I think there will be another rise in cases as people start mixing again, but don't think that will translate into hospital admissions or deaths quite to the same degree. If we lock down again, surely it renders the vaccine pointless.

Nerdygirl · 20/05/2021 20:28

Death rate lowest in April since records began. So unlikely

bathsh3ba · 20/05/2021 20:28

Didn't Chris Whitty say today that more people had died of smoking-related diseases than of COVID and that COVID is now quite a way down the list of most common causes of death? I think they are keeping up the fear levels to get us vaccinated but a dangerous third wave and another lockdown are very unlikely.

GirlCrush · 20/05/2021 20:28

30 deaths over 0 months compared to our local Asian community of 26 deaths over 0 months

we are in top 5 areas and are facing a local lockdown according to local mp

Just had a WhatsApp, although not sure if it’s authentic, that Lancashire area are going to be put into tier 4 from tonight.

IcedPurple · 20/05/2021 20:31

No. We're on the way out of this. Possibly restrictions on international travel and major events for some months, but there will not be another lockdown.

Fake news.
Notsure6 · 20/05/2021 20:31

I’m a bit terrified of another lockdown so this is what I want to hear!

I also desperately want to see my family abroad, one very close family member is unwell. I know so many others are in the same boat and I get that I can’t (well, shouldn’t), but I was starting to feel hopeful that, by autumn, maybe it would be ok to go... then all this talk of a third wave started and I got lockdown fear!

Ohh God! Not this again, can’t you people get yourselves another bloody hobby!

TheVampiresWife · 20/05/2021 20:34

I genuinely don't think there'll be another national lockdown. Local restrictions possibly, but even they won't be the full-on local lockdowns/Tier 3 and 4 restrictions we've seen previously. Just my two pen'orth.

Lockdowns are designed to reduce pressure on the NHS - if there aren't loads of hospital admissions, that won't happen. And it's increasingly thought that vaccinations work on the Indian variant, so hospital admissions should stay low.

A third wave is only an issue if it's an issue, iyswim.

The tier system is a thing of the past. Utter twaddle (not aimed at you but at the person who shared that message!).
Mumblechum0 · 20/05/2021 20:36

No way.

Cases are going up slightly but hospitalisations and deaths still decreasing.

Yes I read that too re covid being a way down the list of cause of death now.

It's all just fear for fears sake now thanks to the media.

I knew the second that the abhorrent BoJo said this path to freedom would have “irreversible steps” that we would all end up back in the slammer sooner or later 😐

DenisetheMenace · 20/05/2021 20:44

In the UK, no, we won’t.
AZ is 97% effective against the India variant, no results in yet with vaccine trials but they won’t be far off.

Uk residents are amongst the most privileged, highly protected people in the world. Possibly also the most complacent. Our 27 year old (no conditions ) received theirs this week. Enough of the handwringing.

Cornettoninja · 20/05/2021 20:46

Cases were always going to rise as we reopened and it was always going to be a tense time watching the real world performance of vaccines particularly as a few concerning variants that weren’t in circulation at the time of the development of the vaccines appeared.

I’m still cautiously optimistic we’ve been through the worst of this but I’m not ruling out the end of restrictions and limitations on things just yet. The vaccines have raised tolerance level of what our healthcare infrastructure can cope with, but it’s yet to be determined where these new boundaries are.

Absolute bollocks. We’re in Lancashire and our healthy 27 year old was jabbed this week.
FGS, turn off your phone and look at the real news.

We won't, though.

I am definitely predicting a return of lockdown in some format. I would love to be proved wrong.

PinkSparklyIncorrigibleDunce · 20/05/2021 20:52

Do you really think people will comply? I know we can't go to shops that aren't open etc but people aren't going to stop seeing family and friends yet again.

Same here. Horrible feeling of inevitability.
