To anyone who turned their jab down.... (anti-vac/Astra haters)

From Sky News (Matt Hancock):-

“There is a "high degree of confidence" that vaccines protect against the Indian variant of COVID-19 - but it can "spread like wildfire" among those who HAVEN’T HAD A JAB, Matt Hancock has told Sky News.”

I spent a lot of time on here when I was due to have my first jab and after it. And I was blown away at the amount of anti-vac nonsense and I nearly fell for it to! You nearly got me!!! But, I went and had it and boy, I’m so glad I did.

So to those who’s role in life it is to spread anti-vac nonsense to us. How are you feeling now? Now that the Indian variant is here, all over our country. And you actually chose to skip/delay for another vaccine or totally decided against it. I’m generally interested. As I’m feeling safe in the knowledge that I’m protected. And safe that I listened to medical advice instead of anti-vac nonsense from Mumsnetters, who interestingly were first time posters with their anti-vac propaganda posts.

I am not fearful I have made the wrong call by getting vaccinated either. In fact, I am so unfearful that I fully support my DDs decision to get vaccinated too, even though she is 20., whenever it is available.

MarshaBradyo · 17/05/2021 18:40

I do think

  • my risk is lowered and will be again on second dose, although not that high to start with
  • it’s the way out of this pandemic / health crisis and I’m very relieved we have mass working vaccines

But no fear. Maybe more like pp of more lockdowns

Namechangeme1 · 17/05/2021 18:45

I've declined as I'm currently in the TWW and just feel uneasy about it

MrsMaryBOOface · 17/05/2021 18:58

@grapewine

Not wanting one particular vaccine does not make someone anti-vax.

So much this.

"Astrahaters" -- way to be goady, OP.

I absolutely love it when someone posts a goady post then disappears 🤣

People are allowed to make choices about their own bodies. I for one am fearful about having a vaccine which is still in the trial periods.

‘ Where are all of these accounts of medics all around the world who have many people in the their care with huge complications? Absolutely there are some, but to have 2 is unusual.’

You do know that in Norway they had several people with it in the same hospital at the same time?

Schulte · 17/05/2021 20:03

And if I remember correctly, something similar happened in Austria. Which is how this whole thing started - doctors noticed that more than one patient had had a weird clotting thing post vaccination.

@psychomath

According to the Qcovid risk calculator, which is approved by the NHS, a 20 year old woman with a healthy BMI and no underlying health conditions has about a 1 in 330,000 chance of dying from covid and a 1 in 6000ish chance of being hospitalised. According to this article there's about a 1 in 90,000 chance of developing one of the rare clots from the vaccine, and currently around 1 in 5 people who get them die. So the risk of dying from a vaccine-related clot is about 1 in 450,000, lower than the risk of dying from covid. I don't really understand the argument that "as a young healthy woman I have almost no risk of dying from covid" - it's true, but your chance of dying from the vaccine is even less. So why not go with the option that has the lower risk of death AND additional benefits to others?

I'm not talking about clot complications specifically.
I'm talking about general health risks, particularly long-term ones, which haven't been as stringently tested for the Covid-19 vaccine as they would be in other drugs. I am particularly cautious because there has never been an mRNA or viral vector vaccine (which the Covid-19 vaccines are) approved anywhere in the world before so I would prefer to wait until all clinical trial data is reported before I decide to have the vaccine.

At the moment, the Covid-19 vaccines are approved under 'Conditional Marketing Authorisation' and the European Medicines Agency reports make the specific point that conditional authorisation has been approved because of the vaccines' benefits to older and vulnerable patients, which I am comparatively not.

Scaremongering is scaremongering

No it isn't. It's a made up word used to describe problems by people who would rather not hear them.

It's quite offensive to diminish what is happening in India. A bit I'm alright Jack. And short sighted as we're absolutely not alright.

When you look at the actual stats, covid cases rose slightly (I hear it correlated to stopping ivermectin but I don;t have a link) and have begun falling again already. They were never as high as US and UK. Sorry but no Wuhan bodies outside houses of dropping down like flies, I think we all know that was fake by now.

"India, India" is the new "think of the starving children in Africa, now finish your sprouts" when people have reasons for not wanting or delaying to get the vaccine.

@DareIask you said "For those who demand a choice... have a choice. But your choice to mix with sensible society should be severely curtailed."

That would violate the Nuremberg code you see, something brought in after the LAST group used "the science" to dehumanise whole groups of people and split society.

ShyButMiffed · 18/05/2021 14:16

@roguetomato

I'm not fearful that I made the wrong choice for getting vaccinated. There's not much thought into it except for the fact it's the only way out of this pandemic.
5 months in with massive uptake, full immunity at 93% after the first shot, yet are you feeling like it's anything like "over"? It's okay to be angry at me for asking, I don't mind, because you can't be angry at the people who put us all in this crazy position.

I'm not fearful I made the wrong call getting both my jabs. I'm happy and feel optimistic about the future and unworried about future waves.

I'm not fearful of the Indian variant. Tests suggest the vaccine will work with it. Are those who have chosen not to be vaccinated worried about getting the Indian variant? Most of the people in hospital in Blackburn with the Indian variant are unvaccinated.

You'd think that there wouldn't still be massive groups wandering around Blackburn together all day wouldn't you 🤷🏻‍♀️ only think different is an extra vaccine hub (which is great to be fair) and light up van (pointless)

In a word no, the same as I havent been fearful of the Chinese, Kent, South African or Brazillian variants.

Where I live isnt an area with a large Asian community (which isnt racist, just saying where the areas where there have been higher rates) and has been very low during all waves so far due to its very rural nature.

roguetomato · 19/05/2021 06:48

@ShyButMiffed yes I do feel like it will be over eventually, just not yet. And we can't be impatient. Massive uptake but only in older population. To things to settle, all the generation to be vaccinated, otherwise it will keep spreading.
And why would I be angry at you?
