@EducatingArti

Handcock announced that 86 councils had 5 or more cases. I don't think it is really at odds with the Sanger data?
I'm unsure about correcting this typo, I rather like it.
boys3 · 17/05/2021 18:57

Just on the testing numbers over 360,000 fewer LFTs. 905,042 on Monday 16th as compared with 1,267,683 the previous Monday.

Although as we have had a good 2.5million a week less over the last several weeks as compared with mid (ish) March that might be considered a bigger cause for concern.

@MRex and @EducatingArti very wicked Smile

EducatingArti · 17/05/2021 19:43

LOL. It was lack of attention to detail rather than wickedness ( on this occasion) honestly!

I'll keep it! I still can't call Jeremy Hunt anything but the rhyming name he had as Secretary for DHSC. Must be a health secretary thing, anatomy etc.

very interesting twitter thread on the Sanger data/indian variant. Basically it could be worrying ,but equally not .

Twitter thread on why the vaccinated will make up a greater promotion of the hospitalised than the unvaccinated, if we have a third wave:

Thought about testing numbers - some year 11s and year 13s have just about finished school now.
If you're no longer going to school, you won't be testing, maybe?

vg point. Probably explains it.
JanFebAnyMonth · 17/05/2021 21:13

I (work in a school) haven’t heard of any schools which have let them go this early. Some going this Fri, many next Friday, some (Y11s mainly) staying longer.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/05/2021 21:39

Robert Peston always seems to have the govt contacts - quotes unnamed sources here, saying today’s easing may well be reversed in parts and some restrictions will definitely continue after 21 June......

Wakemeuuuup · 17/05/2021 21:57

If they close pubs and restaurants etc down again after letting them spend money on ordering food/drink in and taking staff off furlough many will not reopen when this is all over

Frazzled2207 · 17/05/2021 22:02

@Wakemeuuuup

I suspect they won't until/unless there is a dramatic increase in hospitalisations. And by that time it will be too late to stop it all spiralling out of control (again) anyway.

On the reopening I do think the goverment's stuck now between a rock and a hard place. But if it wasn't for the complete cock up over letting the indian variant in for pretty much a month after it should have stopped it, we'd probably be in a much better place right now. I think the government's going to try and just vaccinate as much as possible and hope for the best. Bit of a gamble if you ask me.

MRex · 17/05/2021 22:02

Peston is a pest. Enough, no. I'm not having it. Murdoch all the way.

MarshaBradyo · 17/05/2021 22:03

Not ready to be stirred up by media

Wakemeuuuup · 17/05/2021 22:15

Agree, earliest round here (West Midlands) for year 11s to leave is 28th May
MRex · 18/05/2021 09:03

I had a look at the NHS app for my vaccine passport, which shows the first dose and says it expires on 20th June, jab was 16th March so 13 weeks and 5 days later.
Does this mean MHRA has decided there is a maximum length of time between doses for immunity to be valid? I don't think I've seen that anywhere.

ceeveebee · 18/05/2021 09:05

I was just talking about that this morning! Mine says the same date and my vaccine was 15th April.
Perhaps the certificate download is only valid for a limited time (45 days is it?)
Or maybe they all go to 20th June because on 21st June Boris is going to ban travel again....

ceeveebee · 18/05/2021 09:07

Sorry, bad maths - 33 days? Which is an odd time?

lurker101 · 18/05/2021 09:13

Oh interesting! June 20th expiry here too - I get my second dose this week, I wonder will that change it? I wouldn’t have thought so

Firefliess · 18/05/2021 09:16

@Mrex Just had a look at mine and it also says it expires on 20 June, though I had my jab a different day to you. I suspect it's just that the downloaded PDFs are valid for a month plus a couple of days to cover off, say, month long holidays where you need to supply it a day or two before outbound travel

MRex · 18/05/2021 09:16

Ah, good info. Did anyone check yesterday by any chance, to see if theirs said 19th? If not we'll have to wait to see tomorrow.
Yes, 30 or 31 days could make sense as an expiry period. 33 is odd. On the expiry principle, while I understand immunity may not be forever, surely they can run it to September at least if it isn't connected to vaccination date.

MRex · 18/05/2021 09:20

This was in the good news thread, but it's important enough data for here:
"The research found that 96.42% of people who had either vaccine [Pfizer/AZ] had developed antibodies 28 to 34 days after their first dose. That rose to 99.08% within seven to 14 days of the second jab."
www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/18/96-of-britons-develop-antibodies-after-one-covid-jab-study-finds

While we don't know how many antibodies are needed for full protection and stopping transmission, it's clear evidence that almost everyone gets SOME protection from vaccines. Woohoo!

I’m in that 99.08%, second jab a couple of weeks back and did the Imperial test at the weekend.

Not sure if it’s the react survey the link is referencing, I really should click on it to find out! Either way though it is really positive news.
