Hi,
I just had the first dose of the AZ vaccine yesterday and woke up last night shivering and aching all over. Today I have a temperature and feel like I have the flu. Struggling to get out of bed.

Luckily it's Bank Holiday but worrying about missing work tomorrow as I have a very busy day etc... If you had similar, how long did they last? And will I get this with the second one too?

Normal IME (vaccinator). Lasts a day usually. No second dose is generally ok.

StealthPolarBear · 03/05/2021 13:05

Dh had his on Tuesday and felt unwell until Friday or Saturday. Back to normal today.
I'm getting mine next week.

Youdontknowwhatyoureonabout · 03/05/2021 13:05

DH was the same after AZ. A full day in bed with chills, sweating, aches & flu like symptoms.
Totally fine the day after and no side effects with the second dose.

2tired2bewitty · 03/05/2021 13:05

DH said it was like a hangover, felt pretty rough for two days, but would have been ok to go to work on the second day.

MustBeTheWine · 03/05/2021 13:05

Serval people I know have had a reaction similar to yours, most recently my sister who literally couldn't stay awake, she and most other people I know felt fine after 24 hours after the reaction started.

StealthPolarBear · 03/05/2021 13:05

Ost people I've spoken to though have had a night, maybe two of feeling a bit achey. Dh has to surpass everyone with his dressing gown of doom.

Aurorie11 · 03/05/2021 13:07

Exactly the same. Had second on Saturday just slightly sore arm

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 03/05/2021 13:08

I reacted both times, lasted 48 hrs but some people it seems to last for less.

rainbowruthie · 03/05/2021 13:13

I had a similar reaction, thankfully it was no more than 24 hours
2nd dose due this week, I literally cannot wait, I will take 24 hours of feeling 'rough' over getting Covid any day

pudseypie · 03/05/2021 13:14

Had my first dose yesterday morning too, felt ok until about 12 hours later, some shivers and aches and sore arm. Told this is to be expected. Feel a bit tired and ropey today, although probably largely due to DS toddler waking me up in the night..

StealthPolarBear · 03/05/2021 13:15

Sympathies! When I have mine I plan an early night and ten hours of uninterrupted sleep!

eurochick · 03/05/2021 13:18

Good luck with that - my Fitbit showed a total of three hours of broken sleep after I had mine. It was an awful night.

Gratefulrunner · 03/05/2021 13:20

Yes, I am in bed right now feeling a bit crap!
Had it on Friday lunchtime. Felt rubbish by evening, really wiped out on Saturday. Sunday woke up feeling better but my normal sport activities I do made me feel crappy again. Had wine last night too and it went to my head much more quickly. More sport this morning and I’m ready for an afternoon nap!
It’s definitely like a virus/cold/hangover

Kobrakid · 03/05/2021 13:20

Had my first dose of az Saturday. Had the flu symptoms for 24 hours now I’m feeling ok. Arm still hurts but felt really rough for that day.

PickAChew · 03/05/2021 13:22

Had my jab Thursday.
Wrote off Friday.
Started Saturday with a mild headache that went as soon as I had breakfast. Right as rain, after that.

Candleabra · 03/05/2021 13:23

Yep exactly the same. Lasted 24 hours then absolutely fine.

Bananarama3star · 03/05/2021 13:24

I had the 2nd dose yesterday and 6 hours later the chills started again. Feels like flu but not quite as bad as the 1st dose I would say. Still feel rubbish though. Worst thing this time is how achy my legs are for some reason? Nice knowing its because of the vaccine though and not a proper illness. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

AlmostSummer21 · 03/05/2021 13:26

You're supposed to avoid alcohol & strenuous excercise afterwards. Some people realky don't help themselves 🙇🏻‍♀️

@Travelban. I hope you're feeling better soon.

silverstrawberry · 03/05/2021 13:27

I went to bed around 8pm and slept for 12 hours other than an ache in my back I've been fine since Friday

Wolfiefan · 03/05/2021 13:28

I would have managed work day two after my first jab. Awful for the first day.
Had my second jab. Got as much done as possible before. But then had no reaction at all. Felt fine.
Hope you feel better soon.

Travelban · 03/05/2021 13:29

Thabks all, I am exactly the same with the achey legs, very weird feeling. It seemed worse last night and didn't get much sleep because of it. I am definitely not complaining, just wondering what others' experiences were.

I will update tomorrow how I am getting on! I have a good excuse to watch netflix in bed all day Smile

I had mine Saturday afternoon. Woke up Sunday with flu-like symptoms after sleeping badly. Spent most of the day flopped on the couch watching TV and dozing. I was fine by evening though.

Bad hangover is probably a pretty good description, really. My arm does still hurt.

FusionChefGeoff · 03/05/2021 13:37

Yup had mine at 5pm felt like shit but couldn't sleep last night. Drugged up feeling a bit better but then it comes in waves. Had a hot bath to get rid of the chills.

FrankieFox · 03/05/2021 13:40

I felt exactly the same. It was gone in 24 hours.

Travelban · 03/05/2021 13:43

Thanks for the well wishes!

Just to say I tried to be super healthy by cutting out alcohol completely a week before my jab and now not planning to drink a week or two after. Didn't seem to have helped me much in terms of the flu like symptoms. Possibly there is no correlation, who knows.
