Anyone with side effects afterwards can log it here:

Updated 4 May. Over 30s should take any vaccine offered to them, no change in policy

@LemonCake79 if she prioritised moderna that could well be a factor in the delay too, for me I could book next day for AZ or wait over 2 weeks for a site that’s meant to be doing moderna!

Fingers crossed once you can book you are able to get something quickly. I do completely understand how you feel though, I was feeling so fed up with it all last week.

ILookAtTheFloor · 04/05/2021 11:45

My friend has just had Moderna at Basildon if anyone is wondering whether it's still doing it 😁

NeitherNowtNorSummat · 04/05/2021 12:09

39 and 10 months here (just squeaked in before the 30th June cut off) and had AZ at Sheffield Arena. Very busy there, took about 45 mins of queueing.

Thank you, good to know!

I’m 40 next week, I’ve been trying to book via the NHS website since last Weds but the closest available venues are still 25+ miles away, despite living within 5 miles of 2 mass hubs!

My GP surgery say they are only doing second doses at the moment with no plans to restart first doses so have told me to just keep on trying the NHS site (I’m on it at least once an hour to check!). If nothing closer comes up by the end of this week I’ll have to book one of the others and hope my boss will be ok with me taking a couple of hours out of my working day.

Regal26 · 04/05/2021 14:15

Thanks. Is it at Towngate Theatre?

Marmite27 · 04/05/2021 14:19

Astra-Zeneca at Elland road about half an hour ago.
@wigeon - its true if a centre is doing say moderna one day it isn't necessarily the next day. I selected Islington Business Centre on 12 May as an example. So put in date and time. If I book the 2nd dose at the same centre I am none the wiser about what it will be. However, if I select no for 2nd dose there which I did. I put in BN postcode for 2nd dose and it came up with the centres I mentioned for places where the 2nd dose can be. None of the choices were in Brighton but around the country. As there are so few I know they will be moderna or pfizer. If it was AZ at Islington Business Centre on 12 May I would have been given options in the Brighton area therefore I know it is not going to be AZ. I could if I wanted go back a few steps and book Islington B C on 12th May knowing I will get moderna/pfizer and then book my 2nd dose there. I actually did not as I was not booking anyone in today.
I booked the two at Guys No 1 and Aston Villa a couple of weeks ago both 4.30 today the same way as above. One wanted moderna or pfizer so Guys. The other not bothered. He will get AZ. I know this because of the 2nd dose options that came up.
@tosspot Thank you sooo much for this!!! I just booked using the same logic, first dose at Islington DC and 2nd at Madjeski Stadium - I live near here but couldn't get it to come up for first dose. I really hope this works!

tosspot · 04/05/2021 20:33

@hollieberrie You are welcome - you should get moderna.

LittleRen · 04/05/2021 20:44

@tosspot @hollieberrie I advised my friend on this method - it backfired, they ran out of moderna and won’t get anymore for a few weeks. It is not guaranteed

TruelyWonder · 04/05/2021 21:11

Good luck and congratulations to one and all🥳

Dropping this information here to show how wonderful you getting your jabs will be.

In case anyone isn’t aware, there HAS not been one case thus far of a FULLY (2-weeks post second dose by definition) vaccinated individual transmitting the virus (in the case of a rare breakthrough infection).

CaveMum · 05/05/2021 09:21

After almost a week of trying managed to get an appointment at one of my local hubs la st night - booked in for next Weds the day after my 40th!

IndigoC · 05/05/2021 11:21

That’s worrying. It feels like everywhere is running short on Moderna at the moment. Which hub did your friend get vaccinated at?

LittleRen · 05/05/2021 11:42

@IndigoC Preston, she refused though as she didn’t want AZ and is now getting Pfizer somewhere else, lucky!

I wonder if they are holding back moderna stocks for the under 30s now and potentially under 40s?

Monkeybunkey · 05/05/2021 11:53

After a week of no slots available local to me, a couple of pharmacies and a local sports centre were available to book this morning. First jab next week (43 years old, East Anglia).

TankGirl97 · 05/05/2021 12:40

First AZ jab today, at the Taunton racecourse hub. Very easy and efficient.

I don't think it's healthy to obsess about which vaccine you get, they all work and all have potential side effects. Only time will tell which is ultimately the 'best'. Driving my car to the appointment was undoubtedly more risky than whichever vaccine I would be getting.

yoshiblue · 05/05/2021 13:08

Reporting back from Sportcity Manchester, had AZ. Super efficient, I was in and out in 20 mins; most of that involved walking from place to place! Forgot to ask for a sticker! 😩

Personally I’m keen to get Moderna because it has a higher efficacy rate and the mRNA vaccines seem to be holding up better against the variants. Also having watched my husband vomiting the past few days post-AZ I’m very keen to avoid the nastier side effects. If you look at the yellow card info AZ is running 3x the amount of adverse reactions than the others.

Obviously YMMV but maybe lay off the judgementalism.

HolmeH · 05/05/2021 15:45

@IndigoC - sadly, I watched my Mum & Dad throwing up several times after Pfizer (2nd dose, not first).. it’s not without its issues! They both felt terrible after second dose Pfizer!

You should feel grateful for any vaccine. But I won’t go into any angry rant today. But when you have family in India going through hell, you realise just how privileged we are.

Autumn101 · 05/05/2021 15:54

I had Moderna at Brighton Centre this morning 👍

Megan2018 · 05/05/2021 16:08

I’m 30hrs post first AZ vaccine. No worthy side effects to note so far. Possibly slightly warm and have taken a couple of pre-emptive paracetamol this morning.
Very slight ache in arm but less than flu vaccine.

I am grateful to have access to a vaccine. But I also have family in Australia where AZ is not going given to under 50s due to the risks (as is the case in most of the world). I also have a friend in India who got seriously ill with C19 despite having AZ. I have an autoimmune condition and after seeing what my healthy husband went through with AZ I’m going to try my best to find an alternative given people are randomly receiving vaccines here.

MRex · 05/05/2021 17:31

DH had his AZ today with the all important sticker, apparently it means he can't do any washing up, he was told that officially. I've made him have plenty of water to try to avoid any headache.

I'll be happy to avoid the next thread if it'll be full of more silliness about which vaccine to have.
