Beginning to think I did the right thing now.
Anybody else?

It might be helpful to distinguish between anti-vaxxers and those who wait for full information before accepting a procedure.

I am sure many people are uncomfortable with these new vaccines, while also being confident about vaccines which are long-established.

MarshaBradyo · 19/04/2021 22:14

@vera99

Nobody in my family or social circle has or will refuse the vaccine far from it most are gagging at the bit for it if they are in the queue. I only see scepticism from randoms online.
I did ask at vaccine centre on Friday and the woman said anxiety post headlines had died down a lot which was good.
TulipsInAJug · 19/04/2021 22:16

I'm not an anti-vaxxer. Always have my vaccines and my kids are fully vaccinated.

But the covid 'vaccines' are experimental gene therapy, not traditional vaccines. They are technically still in trial stage (not finished until 2023) and are still unlicensed - they were rushed through and given emergency approval. The long-term effects are simply unknown. For people who are under 55 or so it's madness to take the risk of this experimental medical procedure when the risk of dying from or being seriously ill with Covid is so incredibly low.

Divebar2021 · 19/04/2021 22:22

I’m interested to know what strategy the “refusers” would have advocated had the majority of people exercised their right to refuse the vaccine? The position they promote is always “ my body my choice” which I understand but the point is the fewer the take up the less effective the vaccination as a whole. Would you have sat in lockdown for another year? You’re effectively riding on the coat tails of the rest of the population who have chosen to have the vaccination. ( like every anti vaxxer)

Flyonawalk · 19/04/2021 22:22

@TulipsInAJug You sum up how I feel. Fully vaccinated with the usual ones but awaiting more information about these new jabs.

vera99 · 19/04/2021 22:23

Well I'm a degree educated microbiologist just turned 60 who loves life and the 'old world' and can't wait to get back to it. Had the vaccine last Friday at the Excell Centre - a night of chills, headache and a mild fever and that was that. If that makes me mad so be it. Whilst sitting in the 15 minute sit down post vac chairs some nice lady had bought choccies for the staff something we'll do on my second jab.

Brownteddybear · 19/04/2021 22:24
@Brownteddybear no, I just couldn't read into the future as the first post by xenobitch simply stated 'I have no interest' in going abroad. I was commenting on the irony of the name.
If you'd RTFT you'd see why xeno uses that name before you'd posted your last comment! Not that anyone should need to explain to you why they've chosen a particular username. Xeno came into this thread and responded politely to the OPs question & to further ones yet you come on with your snarky remarks and assumptions about them? Hmm

To all the people NOT having the vaccination you don't need to justify it to anyone least of all on here nor do those who ARE vaccinated need to hector those who have declined or who have decided to postpone it.

Declined two offers.
Two of my friends work in the local medical centre and both of them phoned me last week to offer me the vaccine.
So that's two people who know I'm pregnant earlier than I would have liked.

Flyonawalk · 19/04/2021 22:26

@Divebar2021 I expect most people who refuse these new vaccines are not particularly anxious about covid. Probably many of us would have preferred to see a policy of focussed protection rather than blanket lockdown.

Why do people feel the need to put labels on others and verbally abuse them because of the choices they make? Anti vaxxers, refusers, refuseniks, tinfoil hatters are just some used.

You've answered your own question. We exercised our rights
I don't see anyone being lambasted and criticised for exercising their right to accept the vaccine.

daytimeknitter · 19/04/2021 22:34

I'm not an anti vaxxer. I'm just not having this one. The risk of hospitalisation or death is vanishingly small for me. My DP had eight weeks off sick after his first AZ with Reactive Arthritis (certified by a hospital consultant as a side effect of the vaccination and yellow carded). I'm not even prepared to put up with 'just a sore arm'. It is completely beyond me why people are reporting horrendous side effects and then saying how grateful they are to have had the jab. For me the risk of the side effects of the vaccination and the unknown potential long term impacts outweigh the risk of Covid.

This simply isn't true - the vaccine aren't gene therapy. They are mRNA which gets nowhere near your nucleus or DNA, it isn't biologically possible.

They have been fully tested and approved to the same standards as all other vaccines available, and it's standard practise for any newly developed product to continue to be observed. A 14 year follow up was just published on the HPV vaccine, but people aren't using that as an argument to not get vaccinated.

It's difficult when so many misunderstand details like this about the vaccines.

Devlesko · 19/04/2021 22:44

@sunshine7981

Interested to know if any of the people declining the vaccine have any scientific/medical training or education. I am a PhD biochemist and I jumped at the chance of a vaccine. All medications have side effects but these vaccines have been rigorously tested and the risks from Covid are much much greater.
I wasn't convinced from the start, just a gut feeling. Got the invitation, made the appointment, Dh had to have a minor operation last minute, so cancelled. Made another appointment, day came dh rushed in this time for life saving surgery, he's at home but reliant on me for so much. Nurses coming daily and another trip to A&E today. I told them not to bloody call again. I don't need science, just my gut.

Are they all mRNA, or is that just Moderna?

Moderna and Pfizer are the mRNA vaccines, AstraZeneca is a more traditional 'carrier' vaccine.

This thread gives me the rage. So many stupid, selfish people.

Should have said this to your DH's medical team in A+E, @Devlesko

Dongdingdong · 19/04/2021 22:59

Quite.
@XenoBitch - I think the poster thought your username referred to xenophobia...

I can't understand how someone can have no interest in going abroad. Why on Earth not?
Because everyone has different interests and desires. I will never be able to afford it, so utterly pointless being interested in it. I struggle to leave my house most days, let alone the UK.

DefinatelyMaybee · 19/04/2021 23:05

I am declining for the time being; My friend now wishes she had as she has developed a DVT after having her 2nd AZ jab a week ago. She has a history of thrombosis but was still allowed to have the jab... my decision to decline wasn't based on what has happened to her but has made me question further just how safe this is

MintyMabel · 19/04/2021 23:09

Except it isn't.

Gertie75 · 19/04/2021 23:30

Those who refused it are you happy to take up a hospital bed and ventilator if you become ill with covid or would you rather it be given to someone who has had the jabs and need the bed and equipment for other reasons?

MrsFezziwig · 19/04/2021 23:31

Have had the vaccine. Just don’t see how we will get out of this situation without extraordinary measures, one of which is mass vaccination.

I do find it illogical that many of the posters who have allegedly suffered the most from lockdown (including OP) are so unwilling to be vaccinated. Do they not want their lives back?
