Beginning to think I did the right thing now.
Anybody else?

According to another thread I am on, a poster this is in trials for how long immunity does actually last for.

Terracotta9 · 22/04/2021 21:47

It’s not stupid. SARS and covid19 are similar viruses. It’s encouraging to find that people have T-cell immunity to SARS 17 years later, because at the very least we know that long-lasting T-cell immunity is certainly possible against this type of virus.

But I understand it’s an inconvenient finding if you’re invested in covid doom-mongering. Which many people on this board clearly are.

lightand · 22/04/2021 21:47

there not this

Schulte · 22/04/2021 21:52

Did you get to rebook for next week @thiswaythat? I hope you get your Pfizer shot!

thiswaythat · 22/04/2021 22:07

@Schulte she said to just call next week and they would book me in. I was really anxious because I hate being awkward but honestly she couldn't have been nicer!
I will call next week and ask if they are now using Pfizer then book in if so.
I know the risk with AstraZeneca is tiny but I'm a healthy mid-30s yr old who isn't keen on jabs anyway so this is a good alternative for me I think

Wildswim · 22/04/2021 22:09

This is the stupidest thing I've read today. Natural selection in progress right there.

Eh? This is scientific record. It's nothing unexpected within immunology.

omgwhy · 22/04/2021 23:10

I cancelled mine, I've had covid, long covid, I have endometriosis, had surgery and have the shittiest health related year ever in my life.. I now have allergies and feel rubbish in paid daily so the last thing I need is any side effects, even a day in bed with a fever makes me feel just like "nope"

So I'm going to hang back and wait.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 22/04/2021 23:49

@Devlesko really?
Yet there are no increases in the usual death rateIn fact a few months ago it was lower than average.
Please see attached

Northernsoulgirl45 · 22/04/2021 23:54

@Confuzzlediddled
@loulouljhwith all respect, you are talking bollocks with your claim that you wouldn't be covered for life insurance, or medical insurance.
I think the only part that might be true is the likes of BUPA won't pay for claims for medical treatment for vaccine side effects but why would you need to claim on BUPA anyway.? The rest is tosh

Northernsoulgirl45 · 23/04/2021 00:06

Actually not even sure the bit about private health cover is true.

MrsFezziwig · 23/04/2021 00:30

Yes, they are making a profit but that's just one piece in the puzzle.
More than that I will not say.

I’m amazed it took so long to get to the sneery self-importance - yes, everyone else but me is so stupid that they’re can’t see what is really going on (but conveniently I’m not prepared to elaborate on what that actually is). And then you wonder why people are called conspiracy theorists.

If people don’t want to have the vaccine that’s fine, but please stop with the ridiculousness.

MrsFezziwig · 23/04/2021 01:02

(Whitty has tons of shares in vaccine firms etc).

Do you have a source for this @Wildswim? I hadn’t heard this, and in fact his Declaration of Interests for the MRC states the following:

  1. Shareholdings and Financial Interests in companies: Include the names of companies involved in medical/biomedical research, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare provision and related fields where shareholdings or other financial interests.

None

Wildswim · 23/04/2021 09:35

@MrsFezziwig apologies, I meant Valance, not Whitty. I still have some respect for Witty, he has not sold his soul like so many others seem to have done.

Flatstanleysenvelope · 23/04/2021 09:39

IIRC imperial college estimated natural immunity following COVID infection to be 5-6 months.

So same as the vaccine then considering there'll likely be a booster needed after 6 months.
Xenia · 23/04/2021 10:35

Yes, my best estimate is the vaccine will last about 5 - 6 months so probably the UK pattern will be every winter we will offer it as we do with flu to the old and sick with the same aim as with flu - to protect the most vulnerable and try to ensure hospitals are not too full in the bad winter season.

However we certainl8y need to follow people who had covid and who had the vaccine to see how long it lasts in terms of protecting people from catching it or from having it badly and indeed on how many people it works (as no one says any vaccine for covid works on 100% of people). The more data we can gather the better. It would be useful if we had a computer programme where everyone who had the virus could key in if they caught covid later and how badly they had it and that kind of thing so we get data from say 20m vaccinated people not small studies. We could get data on pregnancy and covid too that way.

Women's hour (Radio 4) today by the way had an item on covid and pregnant women.

Is this known re vaccine

I had heard booster yearly but maybe has been updated?

It is being studied. In addition the ZOE app, which at one point had 4 million users, tracks this indirectly as it records infections and also vaccinations on the same people.

I’m impressed by your optimism that it would be possible to get 20 million people willing to participate in a similar project - although as you’re not having the vaccine presumably you won’t be one of them.

MrsFezziwig · 23/04/2021 15:54

They’re currently looking at it - I guess they’ve only been able to study duration of immunity in larger numbers since vaccinations started in earnest in December so only about five months. I thought one of the reasons they had talked about a booster in autumn was because they were tweaking it to be more effective against later variants.

Parker231 · 23/04/2021 15:59

I’ve used the Zoe App throughout. Easy to use and just update once a day . Would be good if everyone would but I’m realistic that it won’t happen. Too many people have blinkers on to the problem and don’t care.

Yes that’s what I thought too.

The pp seemed certain re how long immunity lasted from vaccine but I agree I think we don’t know this yet, unless we do and pp has studies

I started using the Zoe app but then realised I have too many symptoms and it would want me to keep testing! (I have a chronic cough, suffer with headaches, had a rash last year - DH said I was a walking Covid symptom)

Not everyone has a smartphone because not everyone can afford one so instead of assuming everyone doesnt care you could try some critical thinking.
While im on the subject here is an article about Esther Mcvey citing that poorer people need to stop prioritising phones over food.

Was only two years ago too. You reap what you sow!

Parker231 · 23/04/2021 17:09

I know not everyone has a smartphone - my neighbour doesn’t - can easily afford it but doesn’t want it. However there are many people (you only have to read many Mn threads) who are dismissive of the seriousness of Covid and long Covid and aren’t interested in helping with research to improve the vaccine efficiency or monitoring Covid symptoms.
Thankfully today was my day as a volunteer vaccinator where it would be difficult to find a more positive place.
