Anybody been invited and declined the jab?

Beginning to think I did the right thing now.
Anybody else?

OP posts:
Alonim · 19/04/2021 15:34

I declined too. Many reasons - similar to others have mentioned already. I don’t trust that it’s safe yet.

XenoBitch · 19/04/2021 15:34
@XenoBitch - I think the poster was pointing to your choice of username.
Still makes no sense to me, and there was absolutely no need for that poster to talk to me like that.

The 'Xeno' is a reference to my favourite movie franchise (the Alien films.. the aliens are referred to as xenomorphs). The 'Bitch'... also an Aliens reference.

AerisAsh · 19/04/2021 15:36

I have been invited several times by letter and text and I have refused the jab. My doctors even text on a Sunday telling me to go to the car park before 11 to get my first one

I have decided to ignore anymore letters or texts as I have told them I will not be having it.

I have to admit I was uncertain initially and obviously I'm well aware of the press around vaccines. I had a good think and realised I can't go on living like this for years to this extent so and vaccine is our only way out. For me personally, it helps protect me, my family , colleagues and anyone else I have contact with, as well as getting our lives back on track. I got my head around it all, unexpectedly got offered the vaccine early - I leapt at it, had both my vaccines and each time afterwards felt really good about what I'd done. I'm different to you though and you'll have your own reasons for not accepting.

MindyStClaire · 19/04/2021 15:39
@MindyStClaire I don't think it matters to anyone if I have children or what vaccines I or my potential children have had do you? You've had yours and that's great for you but I don't understand why people can't respect the choices of those who are weary.
I commented because your post said I'm going to wait, the yellow card system on the government website has put me off. I don't understand why people are just accepting these side effects as normal and brushing them off. But the yellow card system is for all vaccines and the side effects most experience are similar to other vaccines, including the standard childhood ones. So I do think there's a logical inconsistency to refuse a covid vaccine on the basis of side effects but to accept other vaccines.

Maggiesfarm · 19/04/2021 15:40

Not declined, cancelled due to illness (not covid!), and rebooked. I go on Thursday.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 19/04/2021 15:46

Yes I am ECV and declined and still happy I made the right choice.

lightand · 19/04/2021 15:51

I declined. In part due to medical reasons after I had covid and long covid. I told the NHS this and said I would relook at the situation again this Sept.
I was expecting to get contacted again, but it seems, my text to them was sufficient.
They probably realise I have had good reason to decline at this stage. I dont see how they could reassure me at this point. I have also been with them for years, though only need them about once every two years, so maybe they have decided to leave me be at this time.

lightand · 19/04/2021 15:54

As for going abroad, I dont go abroad much, and am unlikely to this year.
And by the end of that time, everyone will know more.

savethegrannies · 19/04/2021 15:55

@sunshine7981

Those saying it is a personal health decision of course that is your choice. However, there is clear evidence that vaccination reduces transmission - so as with all other vaccination the unvaccinated are relying on others to reduce their risk of catching the disease. Starting these threads and responding to them with irrational reasons for declining is irresponsible and feeds into the anxiety of people who do not understand how vaccines work. If you have health or other reasons for not vaccinating it is a free world but why the need to spread fear? I know lots of scientists through my work and they are ALL getting the vaccine ASAP
Seriously, bore off, stop trying to guilt trip people and stop making things up. Nobody is spreading fear on this post people are just responding to a question. The choices we make as individuals are absolutely none of your business. "I know lot's of scientists...yada yada." Well bully for you.
PaterPower · 19/04/2021 15:58

Ooh, a chance to mansplain, how can I resist 🤪

“Xeno” means “foreign” in English.

Most people would take it as a reference to xenophobia rather than xenomorph, which is where the original PP was coming from, but a literal reading of your username would be “foreign bitch.”

Which could also be taken as xenophobic.

MrsLestrade · 19/04/2021 16:02

@DDIJ

I neither require nor deserve help or support.
Your posts scream out that you want people to ask why you have so little regard for yourself, but fair enough if you don’t actually want help yet. I hope you seek help when you feel ready. I wish you well.
sunshine7981 · 19/04/2021 16:06

Save the grannies what am I making up??! Sorry that you find the death of 125000+ people in the uk alone so boring...That's a fact not a guilt trip by the way...

sunshine7981 · 19/04/2021 16:07

My point was trust people that actually have some education rather than random posters on Mumsnet

MaxNormal · 19/04/2021 16:08

I'll be declining, can't have it due to my medical history. Hate the way the whole narrative has gone though with the word selfish being chucked around and implications of stupidity, but I can't say I'm massively surprised.

PaterPower yeah I'm sure everyone here knows what xeno means despite our vaginas.

Redimpulse · 19/04/2021 16:08

Declined, for now.

loulouljh · 19/04/2021 16:10

Me! Well not declined. Just not taken up the offer.

My concerns were (a) drug companies have no liability for the drug. (b) any issues your recourse is the Government. Maximum liability £120K I think even if you die. (c) life insurance may well not pay out. (d) medical insurance won't cover you for any issues relating to the vaccine as still experimental.

On the basis of the small numbers of deaths based on the population, the limited data, the refusal to accept that the vaccine is anything other than "safe" (nothing is) I am leaving well alone. That was before all the AZ problems.

Will I change my mind in due course? I don't know. I will see what happens.

At the minute I would be far far more worried putting that into my body than taking my chances with Covid.

ThatOtherPoster · 19/04/2021 16:10

@BuggerBognor it’s fairly easy to find out which centers are giving Moderna in any particular week and book there.

How go you find out which centres are giving Moderna?

MarshaBradyo · 19/04/2021 16:10

No I was very keen to have it and have now had first. I don’t know anyone declining irl.

I have no desire to convince people but I hope the risk of Covid is placed on those who opt out rather than slowing down anything. I don’t think it will as I’m sure take up is still quite high.

To be honest I also thought the posters name was a reference to Xeno phobia as it tied into saying they had no interest going abroad, of course not it’s been explained it’s different, I don’t think the poster meant anything bad in saying they understood the user name.
MichelleScarn · 19/04/2021 16:30

How will travelling abroad work for those who don't/can't have the vaccine will a negative test be needed, or will negative test still be needed for everyone still as the vaccine doesn't actually stop you getting it does it? I feel there's so much information both factual and incorrect out there!

Happycat1212 · 19/04/2021 16:32

I’ve been invited to have it but I won’t be having it so I’ve just been ignoring. They’ve sent me constant texts and I mean constant, letters etc.

What a shame, takes time to do all that. I take it you’ve responded with a no?

I am not sure how I am xenophobic for not having a passport or the desire to go abroad. I am never going to be able to afford it anyway.
