Beginning to think I did the right thing now.
Anybody else?

Covid is not just another disease- 141m cases and 3m deaths in a year.

MarshaBradyo · 22/04/2021 14:57

Communicating daily figures is a big part if the behaviour change programme we’ve just been going through.

It won’t be as necessary when the priority is spending again and participating in activities.

A vast change from being ordered to stay home.

Fine there may be small comfort to some to see such low figures but there’s no reason they can’t be lowered in priority for next stage.

Nikki360 · 22/04/2021 15:29

I haven't been invited yet but will decline. I have very very bad health anxiety and I take medication for it. The thought of getting a vaccine that is so new is really frightening for me. I declined the swine flu vaccine when pregnant as well

anyoldtime · 22/04/2021 16:01

I thought you decliners wanted to leave out the scare campaigns?

I had the first vaccine. I will decline the second due to adverse side effects.
People have valid reasons for not taking the vaccine particularly the AZ vaccine. Vaccines for everyone is not the answer. We are not in a dictatorship society.

Don’t then.

But don’t expect behaviour change to continue.

Society will go back and daily figures will be dropped.

anyoldtime · 22/04/2021 16:13

And treatment will continue to improve as will the vaccines themselves.

The haste to inject something that has only been available for three months albeit understandable, is rushed.

Sebw · 22/04/2021 16:38

So based on the latest figures it is now in 1 in 125000 risk of a clot with AZ. Cases up from 100 to 168 since last week.

Definitely an 'evolving' situation as the MHRA suggest themselves.

This is why I'm waiting to see how it evolves.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/04/2021 16:45

How is the increase accounted for, is it an extra 68 cases in the last week or an extra 68 cases reported/discovered since the vaccinations started?

Yes, Denmark's health authority estimates the risk to be around 1 in 40,000.

I wonder how many of the non-vaxxers willingly fly abroad in normal times or take the pill. Both risks for blood clots and yet most people don't bat an eyelid.

COVID is absolutely not to be fucked with. You have a far greater chance of a blood clot if you actually catch COVID than if you have a vaccine to prevent it. I fail to understand the logic here...

Wildswim · 22/04/2021 17:51

Do you understand that many of us have had Covid, survived it (not surprisingly considering the survival rate is more than 99%) and so don't wish to take an experimental vaccine?

I don't fly abroad or take the pill. I've also had covid and survived it. So I'll take my natural immunity over a forced one any day thanks.
FortunesFavour · 22/04/2021 18:55

Just as well for the anti-vaxxers that they benefit from the less selfish actions of those who take the jab (excluding medical exemptions). Anti-vaccine is a very selfish stance to take in my opinion.

Aliceandthemarchhare · 22/04/2021 19:08

I am all in favour of altruism. But where health is concerned no.

KurtWilde · 22/04/2021 19:11

Just so you know @FortunesFavour I've not seen anyone on this thread who could be labelled an anti-vaxxer. My children are full vaccinated, as am I. But I see no reason to vaccinate myself against something I have a natural immunity to having had the actual virus.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 22/04/2021 19:14

I've had the virus too. But natural immunity doesn't last forever.... are people hoping to hold out until a different vaccine to AZ is available or are people just saying no to the vaccines full stop. (Not being snarky - genuinely curious.)

Sebw · 22/04/2021 19:31

I'm just holding out until I get convinced AZ is worth the risk (don't think this will happen) or until I get another type of vaccine.

I will wait until the last person who wants to be vaccinated is, and then hopefully I can have another type. I don't see that as unreasonable or 'an anti-vaxxer stance'.

If there was no other vaccine available at all, other than one that caused clots, I would have a rethink but there are other vaccines available so I don't think I'm being unreasonable. I am certainly not expecting to jump the queue or demanding another vaccine when there are people out there who still need to be vaccinated.

beguilingeyes · 22/04/2021 19:52

They said on the news today that all of the over-50s are done now...so they should be opening up to the over 40s any minute.

Where's the data that says natural immunity doesn't last forever? With news of a booster being required even after 2 doses of the jab it's clear vaccine immunity won't last forever either.
Wildswim · 22/04/2021 21:02

natural immunity doesn't last forever.

People who had SARS 17 years ago still have antibodies that provide immunity today. So it seems likely that SARS COV 2 (Covid 19), a similar virus, would be very similar. So we can reasonably expect immunity to last at least 17 years.

thiswaythat · 22/04/2021 21:03

So I went for my jab today!
But I refused it, they only had AstraZeneca.
I felt bad and like I was being awkward but I have history of bloody clots in my family and I'm on a medication that increases the likelihood
The nurse (?) was lovely and said not to feel pressured and next week they are switching to Pfizer anyway

This is the stupidest thing I've read today. Natural selection in progress right there.
