Beginning to think I did the right thing now.
Anybody else?

I haven't been invited but I will turn it down when the time comes. I don't believe enough research has been done as there has with other vaccines (which I'm happy to have, I love an injection!).

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/04/2021 20:59

I get what you're saying @Lottiethelemming but how long could we realistically wait? There's no way we could carry on as we are as we're not living, we're existing with people losing their livelihoods and homes. Given the choice I'd take the small risk of the vaccine over that.

Obviously I don't know how old you are, your circumstances etc, I'm saying this as a mid 40s woman who knows someone who spent a month in ICU with covid.

Alonim · 20/04/2021 21:07

@vera99 - the family of that man who died after AZ blood clots ... their enthusiasm for the vaccine still and seeming lack of reflective questioning about it ... this worries me. I don’t find it encouraging or reassuring at all.

Parker231 · 20/04/2021 21:21

The sister of the man who died from a blood clot and is encouraging people to still have their vaccinations is Dr Astles, the subject lead for pharmacy at the University of Huddersfield. I imagine she has questioned the issues with her science background.

Wildswim · 20/04/2021 21:46

My son-in-law is a PhD microbiologist, and he is one of the ones who convinced me that the so-called vaccine is not a good idea. So you see, even among scientists, there is no consensus!

Exactly. I've listened with interest to what Dr Mike Yeadon has to say. He knows his stuff. He speaks out of real concern. He's nothing to lose except his reputation, which has already been deliberately smeared, but he says lots of other scientists share his concerns but aren't speaking out as they've been warned not to and fear losing jobs or grants.

Exactly this

People who say it’s too rushed, they’ll wait...I don’t know if they’ve noticed but the world is going to shit, we don’t have time for people to sit with their fingers up their arse waiting for some arbitrary time to pass on the calendar before they have it

Mike Yeadon who last autumn said there wouldn’t be a second wave and we’d reached endemic equilibrium? Erm right.

Yep. And even before rollout people took a risk and did the trials - all getting us out of this.

Why not just say hell to it and make the vaccine mandatory instead of relying on the public to shame each other into having it?

For those who want to wait - what do we do in the meantime - stay with lockdown, restrictions, variants spreading?

SheilaFentiman · 20/04/2021 22:33

I gladly had mine. Everything has side effects - the disease is a greater risk to me than the side effects.

Wildswim · 20/04/2021 22:41

Of course not. We open up and get on with life, allow people to live their lives and recognise that we can't stop the world for a virus from which 99.8 percent of people will recover.
Divebar2021 · 20/04/2021 22:46

If you want to learn a bit more about Dr Mike Yeadon you might want to read this report by Reuters.

oldegg123 · 20/04/2021 22:46

@Wildswim

What do you think would happen if globally all restrictions were lifted from this point onwards?

MarshaBradyo · 20/04/2021 22:50

Wildswim take the U.K., if we hadn’t vaccinated so many and opened up aren’t you just back to issues with healthcare being compromised? What would you accept? Some going without care or something else

Snaffodrop · 20/04/2021 22:54

I had mine. I work with vulnerable people and support an elderly relative. I’ve had covid and really don’t want it again if possible. I was out of action for at least a month. No good for me and no help to anyone else either.

crumblypie · 20/04/2021 23:01

Had mine and so has DH (both AZ). Feel we made the right decision having it.

Looking forward to the 2nd dose

And then once you've read an article designed to smear him, maybe listen to what he actually has to say: castbox.fm/va/1989186

Wildswim · 20/04/2021 23:07

He's also not a vaccine sceptic, so the very headline is misleading.

oldegg123 · 20/04/2021 23:34

@Wildswim

Yes I've listened to Mike Yeadon's interview. As I said upthread, the claims he makes in it are not based on robust science and have been debunked by many experts (e.g., masks don't work, asymptomatic people can't transmit the virus, no-one young and healthy has died from coronavirus, lockdowns don't reduce cases).

He also adds in a healthy dose of emotive language and scaremongering - "everything SAGE has told you has been a lie", "vaccination is comparable to nazi germany and Mengele's experiments", "if i continue to be successful I will be removed"

Saracen · 20/04/2021 23:41

I didn't decline, but I postponed. I was invited based on a technicality which bumped me up the priority list. It felt like I would have been queue-jumping if I had accepted. I waited to book until the rest of my age group was offered the jab.

Lottiethelemming · 20/04/2021 23:54

@PinkSparklyPussyCat & @RedcurrantPuff I'm not a medical professional so it's impossible to say how long I'll wait. That said, my employer may make it a requirement in order for me to continue working. I suppose I'll have to take my chances then. For now, I'll continue to stay at home as much as possible, work from home when I can, wear a mask when in public and maintain social distancing.

I don't think I'm being selfish. I'm simply sceptical. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Some people completely deny covid exists. I'm not that person. I simply chose not to have a brand new vaccine until I see how it affects us in the long term. If my employer demands I have it, that's something else to deal with.

MrsFezziwig · 21/04/2021 00:38

We have no long term safety data for any of the vaccines

So we’ll just ask Covid to tone it down a bit and only infect a small number of people every year while we pootle around gathering “long term data”? Yes, that should work.

crappytimes · 21/04/2021 00:59

@NotImpossible

Those of you who are worried about something put into their body, with potential for future side effects, are you not equally worried about the possible future effects of getting COVID (another relatively 'new' and 'untested' thing with some proven side effects? I'm just trying to get my head around it.
No not worried in the slightest. I've not felt worried about catching it at all since the whole thing started. I've felt worried about my husband losing his job and therefore losing half our income (which happened). I've felt worried and my children's mental health issues due to being cooped up away from school without friends and grandparents and normal childhood experiences. I've felt worried about my parents and inlaws and never seeing them again. My fil died in January and we couldn't see him while he wasn't in hospital dying. 93 years of age and dying without one of your children nor your wife of 66 yrs by your side. Dying alone. These are the things that have worried me. I've not felt fear from catching the virus though.
