Seems a first world problem to me

EeeByeGummieBear · 10/04/2021 08:20

@AcornAutumn

I hope Mercy doesn't mind me saying this

Mercy has made many measured contributions and absolutely sees all sides in a calm rational way.

In fact, unlike me, I think Mercy did not begin from a place of being anti lockdown?

But there is bound to be a last straw and some moments where we feel completely unable to cope.

This. Given the year we've had, most of us have a snapping point. I've had mine. It's been so very, very hard. And still is
AlecTrevelyan006 · 10/04/2021 08:23

Here’s the guidance for hairdressers etc

www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/close-contact-services

lovevlyt · 10/04/2021 08:27

Why do people keep comparing lockdowns to the war??

So stupid!! And just shows those people lack some serious empathy. Just because something might have been tougher it doesn't invalid someone's experience of finding things difficult.

Radio4Rocks · 10/04/2021 08:27

@Yapplepearora

Jesus wept

What is the point of the fucking vaccine then you odious twats

The point of the vaccine is so that you are less likely to be hospitalised. You can still get it. I'd rather not and if that means people cant get their roots done maybe they should buy a dye and do it themselves.

Ridiculous fuss about sensible guidelines.

StillCounting123 · 10/04/2021 08:28

I understand what you are saying, OP. My hair has been cut and dyed by myself and it looks it. Need a hairdresser pronto.

Although, as usual on MN the martyrs are out in force who never go anywhere, grow their own food, have cut own hair since 1981 and sew their clothes from spider webs in their wine cellars.

The media have whipped this all up these past months and no one knows wtf is law and what is guidance. Also, news reports here in NI where I live report on the rules in England, Wales, Scotland and the RoI, so us poor saps in NI are totally confused. Plus, our government of sock puppets haven't actually released any dates of when anything is going to reopen. Think they are hoping that everyone will die of boredom waiting.

As a society we've been dehumanised - seeing family is forbidden, affection banned, hobbies cancelled etc etc and woe betide anyone who struggles with this.

They have done a good job or trying to squash our humanity out, may as well treat us as robots physically now too. Robots don't need haircuts, just nod as programmed to say yes master.

I have been ranting about this for a long time, but can see some glimmers of hope for the future.

mustlovegin · 10/04/2021 08:31

Who's thinking about highlights now? YABU OP

LoudestCat14 · 10/04/2021 08:32

I'd usually eye roll my head off at a post like this but reading between the lines of OP's replies I'm guessing she's having a really tough time adjusting to how she looks having previously lost ten stone but regained some weight in lockdown and getting her hair done matters more than it normally would and that's prompted her freak out. So be kind, folks, she's obviously really struggling.

mustlovegin · 10/04/2021 08:32

if that means people cant get their roots done maybe they should buy a dye and do it themselves

Exactly

PickAChew · 10/04/2021 08:33

It's all a bit ass backwards, as guidance goes. Hey, stylists, don't see 5 clients in a day, it's safer to see 10 Confused

Thank goodness it is only guidance and not law.

EeeByeGummieBear · 10/04/2021 08:34

@emilyfrost

Those slating the OP, have you never over the past year come to a point where something has been your last straw?

@BonnieDundee No. All we’ve had to do is stay at home for a year (not even that, with the break in lockdowns). It’s really not that hard; it’s not like we’ve been through two world wars like previous generations had to.

Parents really need to start instilling emotional resilience in their children because the majority of people are severely lacking an ability to cope.

I've seen the most emotionally resilient people I know crack over the past year, due to the unnatural life we've had to live. Not being able to bury people surrounded by the ones we live, not being able to do the things that help us manage emotions during a very difficult year. A bit of empathy goes a long, long way in supporting mental health and helping develop emotional resilience. The life we have been asked to live over the past very is not a normal one- people are struggling due to that. Not matter how resilient you are, most people have a breaking point (and yes I'm aware of Victor Frankle)

Couldn't agree more. And we've complied because we recognised that the pandemic was real and scary and we needed to save lives. But when the Govt trumpets about the vaccination programme while telling us we still can't hug our families it's no wonder so many of us have had enough.
AuntieMarys · 10/04/2021 08:35

If my appointment for Monday was " altered" I'd be furious. Last had hair done mid December...I normally go every 5-6 weeks.
Some of you don't care about appearance ...some of us do. I am not used to seeing grey hair on me and hate the way it looks. It has affected my self esteem.as I take pride in my appearance.

OP I get where you're coming from.

This- absolutely
daffodilsandprimroses · 10/04/2021 08:37

@mustlovegin

Who's thinking about highlights now? YABU OP
Me. I’ve gone through an induced birth almost entirely alone, I’ve cared for a newborn with nothing other than trudging round cold muddy parks and I want to have something nice to look forward to for me.
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 08:39

I imagine that very few cases of COVID have been traced back to hair salons. They are PPE’d, scrubbed and sanitised within an inch of their life

But it’s not about scrubbing and sanitising. It’s about aerosols. They need their doors and windows open more than scrubbing and sanitising.

TheWaif · 10/04/2021 08:41

I'm thinking about highlights atm because I'm going on a date with someone ten years younger than me next weekend and I have about three inches of grey roots.

It doesn't matter though because from what I can see there's no issue with me getting highlights'

This!
ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 10/04/2021 08:42

Yanbu, everyone has their tipping point

Too many pointless rules

The vaccine was supposed to be our gateway to freedom, but the goalposts keep moving

Sometimes you just want your normal fucking cut and colour

I have my own tipping point about many sports still not being allowed, for me it’s not hair, but I still get it

It’s just hard to realise restrictions and draconian laws and rules will be here for a loooong time yet

ComDummings · 10/04/2021 08:45

I actually agree with what the OP is saying - her straw that broke the camels back moment. Some of these replies are so nasty. It’s always something seemingly small and insignificant that is the straw moment.
I hope after you have a sleep OP and do something relaxing you feel better.
And for those saying you can’t complain because people have died fuck you. Many of us have had friends or relatives die from this and do actually still care about ‘small’ things, we still think the lockdowns have been like psychological abuse and are worried about if the restrictions becoming a massive abuse of power.

TheWaif · 10/04/2021 08:47

But they haven't actually said you can't get highlights!

OliveTree75 · 10/04/2021 08:52

Who's thinking about highlights now? YABU OP
Lots of people actually. Everyone I know can't wait to get their hair done. It is something to look forward to and gives you a boost!
Unsure33 · 10/04/2021 08:52

If it was the law and not guidance I could understand the reaction .

But it’s not

Hairdressers are going to be doing colours and highlights .

Of course the risk of catching the virus ( which is still out there) is higher the longer you sit in that environment. The mask wearing will reduce the risk , the vaccine reduces the risk , sanitizer reduces the risk .

So the guidance is there to point that out .

But every hairdresser I know is doing highlights and colours so it appears the straw is not even in existence so can’t break the camels back .

So chill.

mustlovegin · 10/04/2021 08:55

It’s always something seemingly small and insignificant that is the straw moment

Some are trying really hard to find this 'straw'

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 10/04/2021 08:58

I hear you OP.

I've survived abuse too and the constant, nonsensical changing of guidelines has reminded me of living with an abuser.

Take care of yourself OP. 💐
