Under 40s may also be advised to avoid AZ

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/04/08/vaccines-advice-could-still-change-30s-jcvi-suggests/

Sorry I don’t have a share token. But it looks like JCVI is suggesting that people in their 30s may also be advised not to take AZ. This could be a game changer for 30 somethings who are still trying to make a decision about whether to get vaccinated in the near future.

the insults always start flying about a reluctance to have this vaccine , everybody is so damned desperate to get back to normal any poor fucker that might not want to get vaccinated stands in the way of that ,and duly gets roasted

Of course people want to get back to normal! You might be happy living like this but there's a lot of us that aren't.

I'm getting worried that the MHRA and JCVI might bow to the pressure and suspend AZ for under 50s in the same way as France and Germany have. I would have the vaccine tomorrow if I could. I have no idea if I'm a higher risk from the vaccine but I'm an overweight 46 year old on the combined pill so I'm assuming I'm at a greater risk of covid.

RoseWineTime · 09/04/2021 19:05

I don’t think the MHRA or JCVI will now to pressure. They have taken an extremely sensible risk/reward based approach that makes absolute sense to me.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 09/04/2021 19:21

@RoseWineTime I hope you're right- I don't want to wait any longer than necessary to have the vaccine, would have any immediately.

Me too

My ds who is 18 had the AZ yesterday after a consultation with a doctor who said that this is a huge overreaction and that the way that the decision has been made is not in a scientific way but a political one. I am 53 and also had my 2nd vaccination. The doctor said we were in more danger from driving home than from the vaccine.

btwwhichonespink · 09/04/2021 19:36

@LemonTT

The article is firewalled. But the JCVI or MHRA could change recommendations at any time about any vaccine and who it should be used for. They do it with other vaccines all the time.

What point are you trying to make ?

What point are you trying to hush up more like.

I’m sorry if this has been asked, I can’t seem to access the full articles but what does this mean for those of us who have had our first dose? If they advise against under 40’s having it will everyone need to start over again with a different vaccine?

It's convenient timing... There isn't enough supply at the moment so under 30s/40s/whatever cut off point each country is deciding wouldn't be able to have it regardless of any extremely rare side effects. The EU is still very keen on blocking exports of AZ.

It's the Telegraph.

You may as well have linked to the North Korean Times.

@EmpressSuiko those that are currently below 30 and have had their first az should get their second as planned. Only those that had an adverse reaction to the vaccine (and I think if history of clots but not sure ) then should check with their gp. Unless more data comes out which doesn’t recommend second doses , anyone should get their second az dose
EmpressSuiko · 09/04/2021 20:17

@EasterIssland thank you, I did have quiet a reaction to the vaccine and was ill for 3 days but no signs of a blood clot.
If they do suspend it for under 40’s I’ll check with my GP, hopefully she’ll be able to tell me if I’m fine for the second shot as I have it booked in for may.

beguilingeyes · 09/04/2021 21:30

I don't have a link to a report. I follow Professor Christina Pagel on Twitter. She's a member of Independent Sage and very lucid and through on the subject.

ZoeBowie70 · 09/04/2021 22:50

I honestly think they should vaccinate the most at risk groups now with Pfizer or Moderna or AZ if they so choose. Otherwise we run the risk of people in those age groups choosing not to be vaccinated. I have psoriasis, an autoimmune condition and in my early 40s and I will not accept AZ as they said the blood clot is an autoimmune response...no thanks!

MrsFezziwig · 09/04/2021 23:06

I’m not ‘holding them up as an example’, it’s just a fact that they are suggesting a different second dose for people who have had one dose.

I assumed by the fact that you were mentioning it at all that you thought it was a good thing. Hmm We don’t know that yet.

wonderstuff · 09/04/2021 23:14

I'm 41. I'll be delighted when I'm able to get a vaccine, I'll have no issue with having AZ, my risk from covid far outweighs my risk from AZ. My risk from driving to work is higher too.

As I understand it people under 30 can have AZ but will be offered an alternative instead as we have sufficient supply coming online and if a lower risk alternative is available it makes sense to use that instead.

Clotsaway · 11/04/2021 08:28

I dont think I'm comfortable taking the AZ vaccine. I'm in my late 30s and there is a family history for blood clots. I was initially looking forward to the vaccination and now I have my doubts. I will still book my appointment but respectfully refuse if I'm given the AZ.

I do feel the 30s have been thrown under the bus in all aspects. We have children who go to school so unfortunately we will not be protected in any way shape or form by vaccination or even herd immunity when we do the school runs. Lots or children mixing and parents mixing put us all at risk.

Now that everything is opening up, we will be going out and having to risk catching covid. 20s and 30s will bear the brunt if the 3rd wave and there will be unfortunately those who won't survive.

Hoping the JCVI does put us in the same category as the 20s and allow us to take at the very least one of the two alternate vaccinations.

ZoeBowie70 · 11/04/2021 08:34

People in their 40s have it worse. I have school aged children, everything opening back up and I’m not protected, plus my risk is greater as I’m older.

Still waiting here too.

Plus all the posts from people turning up and ‘respectfully refusing’ isn’t helping.
