I'm not sure you know Accrington! - secondary school parents more likely 30-35 Grin
🤣🤣🤣 Was going entirely by heatmap cases.

Grandparents then?

Yes it’s the ONS Schools Infection Study, there’s been 4 Rounds or assessment periods so far, the one from March was reported as showing that teachers were “no more likely” than the rest of the population to have antibodies:

www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/methodologies/covid19schoolsinfectionsurveymethodsandfurtherinformation#uncertainty-in-the-data

This sounds an interesting add-on:

No prison in that part of Herefordshire, most likely farm related.

To add a positive note, if people remember the dark days of November/ December watching the map turn to dark blue, purple and dark purple. Well, it's tracked so far back through blue into green... And now finally the creep of yellow begins in Scotland, Wales and if you zoom within counties. Within a month I predict the map will be yellow with finally some white and rarer areas of green.

I like the full numbers being used, as you say % is a bit meaningless with such low numbers. More importantly, how was dinner?

🌶 - umbrella? :)
now that's the effect of pre-dinner Gin; and Wine Wine Wine thereafter Grin

Chilli should have been the selected emoji. I blame the Merlot!

Whilst waxing lyrical :

Question. How do we really know how much the situation (covid that is) has improved?

Answer . The return of the RG threads on the Higher Ed boards.

RG for the uninitiated stands for Really Gullible Russell Group

Yum, chilli is always good!

This is an interesting theory for why corticosteroids help covid recovery: www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/05/200501184320.htm.

Where I come from certain unis are looked at in awe. Because getting into them means your set professionally, teaching standards are ultra high, good prospects when you finish.
Among these are unis like Berlin tech uni, mit, stanford,.... and oxford, cambridge.
Since we live here I am confuse. Are these unis really deliver such high standard of education (proven in some way?) or is it 100+ years of really good marketing that got them here? Or they were outstanding, but fallen in standards the last few years?

Pls dont' tell me to start a thread because I want some answers not millions of contradictions. confused already :)

An interesting thread on when we are going to get to herd immunity (spoiler: some time in June depending on virus seasonality and a few other factors):

It’s more like 1350 in hospital...was a big drop for England and Wales (albeit sometimes their reporting is pretty bumpy) yesterday.

By the time it all updates by Tuesday/Wednesday, I think you are looking at sub-1300.

Getting very close to the 770 figure!

Doomsdayiscoming · 02/05/2021 18:20

And looks like U.K. will hit sub 100 admissions per day soon, which has barely happened, ever.

sirfredfredgeorge · 02/05/2021 19:37

Sport England on activity levels in the pandemic, obviously significantly less activity going on (I'm sure you all remember me moaning about the chief medical officer not talking enough about activity recommendations etc.)
sportengland-production-files.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/s3fs-public/2021-04/Active%20Lives%20Adult%20November%202019-20%20Report.pdf?OjWdwCLnI3dNgDwp3X4ukcODJIDVG7Kd

But the interesting thing related to covid, is just how similar the amount of activity is between the high and low risk for covid is the proportion meeting the recommended activity levels, makes me even more want to see the activity level and covid risk linked more, as more inactivity in the lower income and different ethnicity groups could explain loads of the variation in risk.

wintertravel1980 · 02/05/2021 21:39

Apparently, one of the best activities to improve your chances with Covid is a brisk walk:

www.nature.com/articles/s41366-021-00771-z

Compared to those with a brisk walking pace, the OR of severe COVID-19 for steady/average and slow walkers was 1.13 (0.98, 1.31) and 1.88 (1.53, 2.31), respectively. For COVID-19 mortality, the OR (odds ratio) for same comparisons were 1.44 (1.10, 1.90) and 1.83 (1.26, 2.65), respectively.

sirfredfredgeorge · 02/05/2021 22:55

Walking pace has been a recognised as proxy for risk for death for years - it's not about doing the walking, it's about being fit enough to not be slowed. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30303933/ keeping active is so important for this, and it was those shielding with most to lose.

Of course brisk walking can be a useful exercise itself.
