@JanFebAnyMonth

BBC reporting 50% of hospitalised patients in Brazil are now under 40.
Do you have a link for that? I can't see it on the website.
JanFebAnyMonth · 12/04/2021 07:50

On R4 headlines this morning, no I just looked and was surprised it wasn’t on the website. The headline bit said all hospitals at over 90% capacity; due to P1 variant. And yet San Paolo is ‘reopening’ to an extent today with school students back and takeaways allowed.

Firefliess · 12/04/2021 08:11

Sounds unlikely that they could have 50% of hospitalised patients aged under 40, even given the lower age profile in Brazil compared to the UK. In the UK it's a really small proportion aged under 40. Unless their hospitals are under such pressure that they're turning older people away.

MRex · 12/04/2021 08:35

Brazil is out of control, but has only vaccinated 8%, so hard to see that the percentage would skew so much. Here are some older stats by age: journals.plos.org/plosone/article/figures?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0243126.

Apparently SA variant is now tussling it out with P1 in Brazil. Perhaps that makes a difference, I seem to recall SA said younger people were impacted. Off to find SA numbers by age if I can.

MRex · 12/04/2021 08:39

SA covid site is easy to understand for cases, but I can't quickly find the deaths breakdown - can anyone else? www.nicd.ac.za/diseases-a-z-index/covid-19/surveillance-reports/national-covid-19-daily-report/

Brazil situation being discussed on R4 at present (but I missed most of it!)

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 12/04/2021 15:10

Hello.

I was keeping up to date with these threads when they first started, but my head is too foggy to keep up!

I was just wondering if anyone has a link to any data on how effective the second dose of AZ is each week after the first dose

I thought 12 weeks was 'all good', 'even better' than the 3 weeks initially trialled.

I had my first date and was happy to wait the 12 weeks, but I've been invited back sooner and im not sure whether to get it now (9 weeks) or delay it a few weeks. I'd like to see if there's any actual data on the efficacy.

One part of my brain is saying 'delay it'.
The other part of my brain is saying 'get it done sooner'

TIA.

🤣

Judging by the figures from Scotland, Wales and NI it shouldn't be too far off though!

There is some rather weak evidence that 12 weeks works better than 3 weeks. This comes from the part of the trial where volunteers ended up with a longer spacing between doses due to the trial being suspended briefly at one point while they investigated a possible adverse reaction. But the trial wasn't set up to test differences between dosing timescales, so it's possible that there's other reasons for the difference. They didn't compare a 9 week gap with a 12 week one, so no real way of knowing which is best. My guess would be that it's likely to be pretty marginal if any difference at all, and probably best just to go when you're called up. Might be trickier to ensure you get called in 3 weeks time.
Bordois · 12/04/2021 16:45

I saw 3568 / 13 ?

Bordois · 12/04/2021 16:48

I guess a lot of that would be the resumption of schools testing in a lot of places?

MargaretThursday · 12/04/2021 16:51

We were asked to continue through the holidays, although not sure how many people are. They were given tests to take home. Round here they're not back for another week though.

Looks like 600+ cases that got removed yesterday might have been added back? We will need boys3 help to demystify the numbers!

boys3 · 12/04/2021 16:55

Another odd day.

3222 cases added in England

But

Last three most recent spec dates total 2067, then a further 73 for other dates in April.

We the have the following additions

March +281

Feb +313

Jan +257

Then December 39 added, November 25 removed,
October 114 added
September 67 added
August back to start 36 added

No notes that I can see to explain this addition of cases back in.

OP posts:
JanFebAnyMonth · 12/04/2021 16:58

Yes I wondered if it was schools, given that the initial instruction, when all staff and students were first launched off on home testing, was “no need to test through the holidays until the Sunday night before we return” (subsequently changed to “test all through the holidays”). Not sure whether our LA - schools returning today - is in the majority or minority.

Bordois · 12/04/2021 17:03

So the best part of 1000 cases reported today are actually from March 2021 back to March 2020?

sirfredfredgeorge · 12/04/2021 17:11

The additions appear to mostly be "LFD only" cases being added in.

March England added 32 new PCR, 267 unconfirmed LFD and removed 20 PCR confirmed by PCR.

Looks similar for the other months.

boys3 · 12/04/2021 17:13

@Bordois

Yes, although the substantial majority relate to Jan to March this year.

So the best part of 1000 cases reported today are actually from March 2021 back to March 2020?

Yes, just 1186 new cases in England for all of April, rather than 2286 new cases for all time.

Firefliess · 12/04/2021 17:33

Yes, just 1186 new cases in England for all of April, rather than 2286 new cases for all time.

So if it's the same across the UK then roughly half of today's cases are actually old backlog corrections?
LatteLoverLovesLattes · 12/04/2021 17:43

I understand it's not the exact day it's reported and that adjustments are made at times, but how often are large changes being made? Is there any accuracy on the dashboard?

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 12/04/2021 17:48

@Firefliess

Thank you for replying.

I understand that was how it came about, but at one briefing they (I think it was JVT) said there was 'live data' that efficacy was improving over the time & as they were watching the 'live data'I was hoping that information was now in the public domain.

Bordois · 12/04/2021 17:48

Theres going to be a lot of "no, there were x number of old cases included in todays figures" going on.
