Can the 40-49 age group now book their vaccine?

Summergirl76 · 04/04/2021 22:16

Sister’s boyfriend (43) was able today to book his vaccine by entering his details on the national booking site (he is Derby based). Sister late 30s tried too but it said she was not eligible. Her husband tried last week and was also not eligible. Just wondered if anyone else has tried in the 40s age group and been able to book?

Def no luck yet for a 42 yo in Greater Manchester but really pleased there is progress for the under 50s

MadgeMak · 12/04/2021 19:50

I've just tried again and opted for a different centre a bit further away for my 2nd dose and I'm now all booked!

myrtleWilson · 12/04/2021 19:50

Just booked mine for tomorrow - NE!

stuckasastuckthing · 12/04/2021 19:51
@stuckasastuckthing yes I cleared cookies every time I tried.
Thanks!

Well that's annoying. Been trying ever hour since people first started posting that over 40s were getting in. I can book my first appointment alright, but there is nothing remotely close by for the second, and it won't let me book just one appointment. Will have to keep checking back and hope for more slots to open up.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 12/04/2021 19:59

Not for me. Currently not eligible. I will keep trying.

Foxhasbigsocks · 12/04/2021 20:01

I’ve been able to book and getting the vaccine tomorrow (I’m 47), but my dp who is 45 is getting the ineligible message, which seems weird

WombatChocolate · 12/04/2021 20:01

Usertwice, just out of interest, how far is the nearest 2nd jab location they are offering you?

Hope there are more tomorrow/later that are doable.

Newnormal99 · 12/04/2021 20:01

Thanks for this - I had tried earlier today abs it wouldn't let me. But managed it just now. Lots of first availability times but didn't look like many second.

EenyMeenyMinyNo · 12/04/2021 20:01

48 (+ 11 months!) Booked my 1st for this Thursday, couldn't book the 2nd at same place so booked further away and I've had confirmation text. So delighted! (Somerset)

It was about 35 minutes drive away. Which I know is not very far away in the scheme of things but the times were pretty limited and wouldn't work for me. It feels further as I could book my first jab at the centre that's 10 minutes walk away and there are a quite a few others much closer (live in big town). It did seem odd that there was lots of availability locally for 1st jabs (from tomorrow!) but nothing for 2nd. It does feel like the dates must not be in the system yet (surely they are too far away to be already booked up?)

I live in a coastal area and was hoping to be vaccinated before we opened to tourists as it gets so busy here in the summer months. Sympathies to upper 40s/asthmatics/teachers etc who don't feel safe at work. I don't feel safe either and I think people's behaviour has changed in the last few weeks, whether that's because they've had the vaccine, or just because rates are lower, I don't know. Some people just don't get social distancing and out of work, you almost always have some control of the situation eg you can leave/pick your friends better etc. In work, however, that isn't really an option and when your employers don't seem to support people self isolating after close contact etc, then it contributes to people like me feeling unsafe. I had no idea how stressed I was feeling about this until we had a recent Covid case at work. 10 days cannot come fast enough!

PrettyCherryBlossom · 12/04/2021 20:11

Just booked mine for the end of the week - I’m
46 and in the NE

UserTwice · 12/04/2021 20:11

I do wonder if there is any issue with vaccination centres that are normally other things (libraries, sports grounds, work places ...) being reclaimed for their original use? My nearest vaccination centre is normally an office building. Currently all the office workers are working from home, but I guess as restrictions lift they may come back to the physical office and want their building back?

Yes, husband and I have the same surname, same address. I'm 49. He's 48. He got in first time, booked for 9am tomorrow. Still not working for me.

Totally bizarre. I am 49 too and can't book. Can't compare with DH because he's older and has already had his.
WombatChocolate · 12/04/2021 20:17

Can’t understand it when you live in same house with same surname. Any chance the surgery have your name spelling incorrect? Have you also tried with nHS number....might help??

Bakeachocolatecake2day · 12/04/2021 20:18

I'm feeling a bit stunned at the moment - I thought it would be ages (Early May) before I got it - can't believe it's happening tomorrow.

I fully understand this - at the end of April I will be back out doing 8 home visits per day. I was desperate to have had #1 before then. I had a little cry of relief, I won't lie!

Yes same for me and DH - his became available about 30 minutes after mine was booked.
Thecatisboss · 12/04/2021 20:19

DH is 49 and still unable to book. Tried with NHS number but still ineligible whereas I at 47 have booked an appointment now for Wednesday at 19.15! Poor DH is now suffering from vaccine envy.

Well interestingly I can't book via the national website but I have just this second had a text from the GP to book!
Iknowtheanswer · 12/04/2021 20:23

Tried with my NHS number, tried on ds's computer in case I hadn't cleared my cookies, still no luck.

I'm thinking it's just not meant to be. I've been working with vulnerable adults throughout all lockdowns, key worker, but not close enough to count as a carer. Asthmatic, but not bad enough. 50 next month. Not going to keep trying tonight.

RedToothBrush · 12/04/2021 20:25

It does feel like the dates must not be in the system yet (surely they are too far away to be already booked up?)

Friend who got first jab was told that the booking system didn't have dates available straightaway but to try 24hours later as they were releasing new slots regularly. It sounded like they were unwilling to release dates more than a certain amount ahead (possibly to prevent people from booking jabs 20 weeks apart).

Basically it sounds like a question of keep trying and wait for the system to update.

I suspect they may release more 2nd jabs closer to you later today or tomorrow.

ConnieDobbs · 12/04/2021 20:34

Has anyone under 45 been able to book yet? I'm only 42 but have non-mild asthma
