In our area, my OH is going for his AZ tomorrow and I'm ecstatic as he's the last of our immediate family to receive a vaccine. Well done NHS! Thought we'd be waiting till May!

DH (late 40’s, underlying conditions but not enough for group 6, obese, front line key worker) has heard nothing. Have googled waiting lists but can’t find out how to get him on one. So worrying.

SaberToothKitten · 03/04/2021 23:12

I turned 50 this week and the national site is still telling me I’m not eligible to book...

Fortunei · 03/04/2021 23:36

@JustMeAndWheatley

49 plus here, but nothing younger (other than occasional shout outs on social media for over 47s at the end of the day to use up spare vaccines).
Wow! Your get info through SM? Our GP only contacts it’s own patients directly if/ when there are spare shots left. Strictly confidential

That's frustrating. Have you tried calling? I know it's not the point, but might get you booked in. My area has a walk in for 50s and over. Are there any near you?
Tealightsandd · 04/04/2021 06:50

@Lemons1571
Has he tried speaking to his GP? They're allowed to use clinical discretion for group 6. Your husbands clinical and occupational risks individually might not get him into group 6 but added together, including his age (over 45), they could be accepted as making him CV. It's worth asking.

musicalfrog · 04/04/2021 07:34

@Fortunei actually word of mouth on SM is how a couple of my 40+ friends got their vaccine. It was on a local WhatsApp group.

Fortunei

  • here the SM information is via family/friends or local area FB/Twitter pages, rather than from the centres or GPs.

It's how we managed to get dh his first vaccine.
It's how my friends have managed to get theirs booked in for this coming week.

mumwalk · 04/04/2021 17:28

Still working through 50-55 here.

Delime · 04/04/2021 17:33

Nearby county advertising open walk ins for over 45 no appointments required.

Sprongles · 04/04/2021 17:36

@grandmasterstitch

My mum is 66 and still no vaccine. We're very behind
She can book via the NHS website?
PoTheDog · 04/04/2021 17:37

My brother, his girlfriend and most of his mates all in their early-mid twenties have all been vaccinated in Cumbria. None have any underlying conditions. It's great how quick it's all happening!

Keepyourdistance000 · 04/04/2021 17:39

46 and having my first jab this week.

Sprongles · 04/04/2021 17:47

My DH was texted by Dr's - he is in his 40's

LimitIsUp · 04/04/2021 18:22

I am glad that late 40's are being done. Any over 50's who are 'still waiting' have either not been proactive and are sitting around waiting for an invitation rather than getting on with it and booking on the website, or they are procrastinating and dithering.

I am 52 and had mine 15 days ago. I booked on the national website - didn't receive my 'invite' until a couple of days ago, so if I had waited for that invite would not have had a jab by now. I know an over 50's ditherer - a friend who has been invited twice but is putting it off - due to fear of blood clots

My friends birthday was a week ago. It let her book the day after her birthday.
SaberToothKitten · 04/04/2021 19:00

Checked online and no obvious options here other than national booking, but hopefully they’re just having a quiet bank holiday and will let me in soon

ladygindiva · 04/04/2021 19:30

Cornwall still on 50 pluses, probably because it took so long to do the over 60s as they represent about 75% of the population. I bet we will be last to move onto 40somethings.

Wow its definitely a postcode lottery. I'm late 40s and not allowed mine yet, I went online and tried a couple of days ago. Is this fair?

I think lots of people think they have to wait to be called before using the national site. I also think so many people, especially older people, want to be vaccinated locally through their GPs rather than travelling to a hub which might be a few miles away. They don't always then realise that means they'll have to wait longer and others younger than them will end up being done before them.
ladygindiva · 04/04/2021 19:40

Possibly true, but that's not what's happening here. Younger ( 40s) people like myself and friends are actively trying to find appts but it's not possible to do so yet.

paxman · 04/04/2021 19:52

I've just tried online again but interestingly the pages have changed a bit- they didn't ask if I was social/health care worker or an unpaid carer like they usually do. I wonder if the site is updating a bit ready for the next group?

I think it copied the wrong part of the quote. It was talking about a woman in her 60s still awaiting the vaccine, not someone under 50s. Sorry for any confusion.

Fwiw dh got his, this week, by asking at our local, hub about end of day spares. They took his name and number and opined him later in the day to go and get it. he is 47y.

WombatChocolate · 04/04/2021 20:25

Paxman, advice from NHS England to vaccine sites for this coming week has been that the national booking site is no longer available to unpaid carers who aren’t registered as such with their GP, so already having this flagged on their record.

There was fraud regarding this. Now unregistered unpaid carers are instead asked to contact their GP. The receptionist presumably, will ask some questions to se if they are eligible and if so they will allow them to access vaccination via the GP led local services.

I think the same is true for anyone who is in a job such as care worker who isn’t already flagged.

Unfortunately I don’t think this is because there’s a about to be a rollout to younger people via the national system and to all upper 40s for instance. I think that the mass centres and national booking system simply don’t have much vaccine for 1st doses in the upcoming week and so are controlling the number of bookings. It also means those that do get made as 1st doses are genuinely eligible rather than fraud cases.

The NHS England advice from last Thursday also tells GP services and mass centres that if they have more vaccine needed than required for over 50s and group 6, rather than expand to under 40s they should first pull forward 2nd dose appointments. I am hearing of lots of older people being called for their 2nd dose now about 10 days to 2 weeks before they expected it around the 11 week mark.

It strikes me that perhaps the delay in incoming doses is more serious than initially thought or we have been told. They would rather get a bit ahead with 2nd doses than fail their 12 week deadline for those, and by getting ahead have a bit more leeway in coming weeks. Once they open to Phase 2 officially (and I know lots of areas have already called some over 40s...but it’s often been with fairly short notice and to specific slots, not via the general booking systems) it will be hard to stop it without it looking like a big climb down. At the moment, it hasn’t offically started, plus the official date for completing phase 1 still has anothe 10 days, giving them a bit of wriggle room.

I know it’s not what all the upper 40s who felt it was so close and then whipped away want to hear, especially when they hear of some areas giving the over 40s it. However, I feel any official rollout won’t come until at least 15th. Probably at that point they will have to actually say something more about phase 10 and moving to Over 40s and either say there is a delay, or that they are still doing phase 1 mop up, or give some other explanation. Hopefully by then there will be more and they can rollout, but I wonder if it will be May. Hope I’m wrong.

sleepwouldbenice · 04/04/2021 20:42

Even more depressed now - seen a headline saying the under 40s will get the J&J one jab from July

So..... basically as a 49 3/4 year old not in the right postcode.... I might well be fully vaccinated towards the back of the queue, depending on how much J&J we get..... great

daisiesinmay · 04/04/2021 20:45

They're not. It's frustrating as a 49 year old that people think they have moved down. The Government's lack of honesty about it is what's most annoying.

WombatChocolate that sounds about right
