In our area, my OH is going for his AZ tomorrow and I'm ecstatic as he's the last of our immediate family to receive a vaccine. Well done NHS! Thought we'd be waiting till May!

@Duckyface

In my 40s with asthma. No vaccine here.
Same. And I work in a reception class... I keep wondering which I'm going to get first, the vaccine or covid. At least I test twice a week.

How is this fair? Talk about a postcode lottery!!!

In my area we don't have GP's vaccinating, just main vaccination centres. Therefore no one under 50 is getting a chance as you cannot book apart from the main NHS link. I know of many people below 50 now vaccinated by their GP. I don't begrudge them the vaccine but I do wish it was fairer.

Asked dd and she says she's having the astro zeneca, I'm confused as she's 23 years old ( in a couple weeks) and pp mentioned under 30s weren't supposed to have it?

PrincessNutNuts · 10/04/2021 14:07

HRTWT but If an area is into younger age groups it might be because of poor take up, which means poor vaccine coverage in that area and a likelihood of higher infections/Admissions/deaths and possible local reductions in the future.

Yes, it's been all over the news this week... www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56665517

Just had confirmation from dd that shes been in and had her jab and it was definitely oxford astrazeneca. How odd.

It is a bit odd. But my understanding is not that they should NOT have the AZ but rather that they should be offered an alternative. Not quite the same. I suppose your daughter was well within her rights to ask if she could have another one instead but probably there wasn't another on offer today nor a system to book in for a different one.

@ladygindiva

Jesus. Just found out my healthy 23 yo daughter ( ELondon) is having her vaccination today. Meanwhile 46 year old me and her stepdad ( Cornwall) have no word yet and cannot book on the site as it is 50s and over only. Now I'm her mum, so I'm delighted she's being done, but at the same time, what the actual f? How is this fair? Talk about a postcode lottery!!!
Definitely a postcode lottery although arguably there's a greater need for Londoners than Cornwall. There's a much higher risk of catching it in London.

Friends of mine in SE London still waiting. Their boroughs are still trying to coax in hesitant over 50s. I suspect East London has a lot more hesitancy though, which might explain why they've gone further down the list. Why they can't send spares the short distance over to SE London for the over 40s, I don't know.

Frazzled2207 · 10/04/2021 16:30

If GP hubs are vaccinating health 23 year olds they must be close to finishing their lists. Which at least hopefully means more vaccines available for other GPs locally. I know it's not quite that simple though!

Tealightsandd · 10/04/2021 16:36

The more I think about it, the more I think they should've sent the spares the few miles to London boroughs not yet on the 40+ group. It can't be right that one London borough is doing healthy 20s whilst higher risk 40+ nearby are still waiting.

user34254356 · 10/04/2021 16:37

@Tealightsandd great idea!! wish they could just move those spares 5 miles down to SE london.

Seems today my borough has gone into a major drive, 7-8 vaccination centres including a hospital hub have drop in clinics all day for those eligible. If this is the last ditch effort to coax the hesitant groups, then possibly from the week after they may start to open up to under 50s.

Wakeupin2022 · 10/04/2021 17:10

I wonder what % of the age groups in London are actually getting vaccinated?

How much vaccine hesitancy and is that why some youngsters are getting them.

My county is doing well and has a high % of people vaccinated. My DH is under 50 and got called for his 1st a few weeks ago.

I am still waiting though and it seems that the have stopped working through 1st doses. Hope that changes soon as I must be near the top of the county list now (only a few years between us).

Lemons1571 · 10/04/2021 17:23

DH emailed our gp and amazingly got a spare. The stress of it all got too much (late 40’s, numerous health conditions including obesity, works in non social distanced education so is at the mercy of 300 families choices every week, unventilated room as window old and stuck).
