And there is also a problem with a lot of Russian tanks turning up on Ukraine’s border.

what do you imagine the EU would do if we charged them more for Pharma then anyone else?

The problem was they wanted to pay less, and less than cost. But that's free trade. You make your bid and take your chances. Interesting that now in crises, they are throwing money around for doses. If they had invested upfront, they wouldn't be in the mess they are now.

Baileysforchristmas · 03/04/2021 11:13

@jasjas1973 but the AZ is approved by the EU now but Sputnik isn’t, i’m glad I had AZ, i’m glad I didn’t have to choose Sputnik where all the data hasn’t been sent to the EU yet.

BunsyGirl · 03/04/2021 11:45

@jasjas1973 What point are you trying to make? The U.K. started using AZ once the MHRA approved it. The EU started using AZ once it had EMA approval. Neither the MHRA or the EMA have approved Sputnik.

Itsalonghaul · 03/04/2021 15:46

Brexit is all about the UK becoming a rival to the EU, not a partner

It shows how limited your understanding really is. Brexit was not about becoming anyone's rivals! It was independence, accountability and choosing our own future, rather than having all the decisions made for us by faceless suits in Brussels, or VDL!

We are happy to be friendly trading allies with the EU, and no aspirations to be anything else.

Trump was not a fan of Nato because Germany and others would not pay their dues, and given they are/were the main beneficiaries to peace and security on the continent, he rightly became fed up! I am no Trump fan but I can see why the Americans are fed up with paying bills for other countries, post world wars.

jas How is this thread helpful to you, you simply take on one post after another trying to discredit all things British, I find it intensely sad for someone that claims to be British. What do you get out endlessly being negative or moaning on threads?
Is there any part of you that understands the other side? That the EU is not a beacon of benevolence, goodwill and equality, and does have massive entrenched, institutional problems that even the most ardent of Europhiles usually acknowledge honestly when asked. I can't see why you bang away defending the indefensible all of the time.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/04/2021 16:09

Oh! Now I have an earworm!!!

107,000 first jabs in the last 24 hour period. April's vaccine shortage beginning to bite

Baileysforchristmas · 03/04/2021 18:06

@LimitIsUp we’re nearly 60% (which we should hit tomorrow) 1st jabs and 10% 2nd jabs, it’s an amazing achievement 😊

Baileysforchristmas · 03/04/2021 18:08

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56626313

Amazing 😊

Itsalonghaul · 03/04/2021 18:23

I think they are focusing on second doses limits

Lindy2 · 03/04/2021 18:23

There were also around 250,000 second doses. The supply might be a bit lower but that's still a pretty good number of total injections done today.
MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 03/04/2021 18:25

I'm 47 and getting my first jab next week. No underlying conditions. So things are moving, even though the govt said no under 50s were likely to be vaccinated this month. I assume I'm getting AZ.

Baileysforchristmas · 03/04/2021 18:29

And it’s Easter weekend and we are still vaccinating 😊 at an amazing rate

LimitIsUp · 03/04/2021 18:33

Yes, together with the second doses that does sound rather better

worriedatthemoment · 03/04/2021 18:47

@jasjas1973 thats because the uk don't have to wait for ema approval they have there own same as I wouldn't expect the eu to use on mhra approval but only on their own

UserEleventyNine · 03/04/2021 20:31

The EU’s multiple failures are due to its immunity to democracy
Yanis Varoufakis, writing in the New Statesman: link

Varoufakis knows a thing or two about how the EU operates; he was Greek Finance Minister at the time of the Greek financial crisis. At the time of our referendum he campaigned for Remain.

notimagain · 04/04/2021 00:29

Umm...Former Greek finance minister grumbles about EU..and your/his point is?

TheHoneyBadger · 04/04/2021 07:32

He witnessed how ruthless they can be and how even a clear result referendum from the people didn’t stop the government capitulating to the eu/imf demands.

Itsalonghaul · 04/04/2021 08:02

Yanis Varoufakis understood precisely what he was dealing with in the financial crash in 2008 when the commission sunk their teeth so far into Greece in terms of austerity - from then on out he was determined to shine a light on what he saw as a German led campaign to make Greece really pay for their misfortune. It was bullying, ruthless and completely unnecessary.
We were in Greece at the time and I remember he described it as stepping back in time with a German led occupation for all intents and purposes.

Itsalonghaul · 04/04/2021 08:03

The behaviour of the commission is nothing new basically.

Baileysforchristmas · 04/04/2021 09:10

A bit off topic, I always thought us leaving the EU wouldn’t make that much difference to the EU but we were far more important than I ever knew. I can see why the EU are worried our economy could take off. I think they really couldn’t believe our rollout was working out better.

Did you miss the part where I said he campaigned for Remain? My point, as in the post I quoted above, is that even people who thought we should remain in the EU are well aware of its faults.

MuddlingMackem · 05/04/2021 00:05

Interesting updates on this page of bild.de which translates into English for those who, like me, can't read the original German:

www.bild.de/news/inland/news-inland/corona-news-im-live-ticker-alle-nachrichten-zu-covid-19-74564162.bild.html

From reading this it seems that uptake of the over 60s for the AZ in Germany is good. A plus of the AZ being stopped for the under 55s there is that the older population are being vaccinated ahead of what was originally planned, so with luck that will reduce their hospital admissions too.

Baileysforchristmas · 05/04/2021 06:51

I don’t think I would be using Sputnik V
