Scary thread! Why are people doing this to the self?

FoxyTheFox · 10/04/2021 16:30

Because for the vast majority of people the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks of contracting and/or transmitting covid.

Akire · 10/04/2021 16:35

Interesting period arrived day after. Guess to late to stop. But been bleeding for 12m (had tests nothing is wrong apparently) and since last period no bleeding.

A thread like this will attract people who had the same experience to post. I had my period on time as usual after AZ, no change at all.

I'm in my 40s. My period being a few days late after the vaccine has far less effect on me than Covid probably would have. From what I've heard, having Covid can mess up your cycle too.
HighlandCowbag · 10/04/2021 19:38

I know 2 younger women who have been bleeding for 6 weeks post vaccine.

I was on day 2 when I had my jab, unusually for me I bled for 7 days instead of 3 or 4 and have just got my next.period 3 days early. Will be interesting to see if this gets listed as a side effect.

Wildswim · 10/04/2021 20:07

You all need to report this.

After listening to this podcast I'm now pondering the possible consequences of this vaccine. castbox.fm/va/1989186

Wildswim · 10/04/2021 20:08

Note - it's the podcast with Dr Mike Yeadon, a scientist and respiratory illness expert who was vice president of Pfizer. Note he's not telling everyone not to get it, but is just asking some important questions and noting that it may have side effects we don't yet know about.

Somebunnylovesyou22 · 10/04/2021 20:57

I had my AZ vaccine just over 3 weeks ago and was very ill for 2 weeks and now just very flat and down and tired. Hadn’t even thought about my period so had a look at dates and I am 7 days late. I am clockwork every 28 days so this is so unusual for me. I have already done the yellow card reporting for all the other side effects and will do it for this now too. I am 36 with no health problems so this is all very concerning. Going to phone gp on Monday to ask for some advice about all of these side effects i have experienced.

MRex · 10/04/2021 20:58

Strong immune responses to viruses or vaccines can have a temporary impact on periods for some people, but it's just temporary. Scientific review says there's no evidence any fertility impact:

Glad I found this thread. Mine was due two weeks after vaccine, was a day late but very very light compared to normal! I was worrying as it was so unusual for me.

kowari · 10/04/2021 21:11

I haven't had the vaccine but I was happy to get my period a couple of weeks after having Covid for the first time in four months, so Covid had no detrimental effect at all.

TempsPerdu · 10/04/2021 21:15

I’m 40 and had my first AZ jab two weeks ago yesterday. Period arrived last night, over a week late. Don’t mind all that much as normal cycles are annoyingly short (23/24 days) but this is very unusual for me - been tracking cycles quite religiously for over 5 years and it’s the first time (pregnancy aside) that it’s been significantly late. Also had horrible PMS for the past week or so - again unusual for me. Lots of muscle aches, grogginess etc.

Had a a few other weird symptoms since the jab too - couple of very sore eczema-like patches on arms that flared up and have now completely disappeared, and just a general feeling of tiredness and malaise. Don’t think it’s psychosomatic as I wasn’t that fussed about having the vaccine and wasn’t especially anxious about possible side effects.

Anyway have reported via yellow card scheme - still glad on balance that I had the vaccine, but I do think these things should be flagged up to increase awareness.

Greenmarmalade · 10/04/2021 21:15

This is so scary. Mine was early but assumed living with teenage girls was having an effect.

Puffler · 10/04/2021 21:17

yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/

Report any side effects here.

GrumpyTerrier · 10/04/2021 21:33

Yes mine was late and long and drawn out over loads of days instead of the usual amount, and really light.

TTCat39 · 10/04/2021 21:33

Just to give some balance - I had the Phizer vaccine, trying to conceive at the moment so monitoring my cycles very carefully. It had absolutely no impact on my ovulation date, period date or flow, or even my basal body temperature. All were comparable to the previous months.

Wildswim · 10/04/2021 21:38

Has anyone seen this?

Deaths of pregnant women up by 20 percent in the last year. Not due to Covid, but to disrupted healthcare.

Therewereroses · 10/04/2021 22:17

I find this really worrying, both in terms of the vaccine and covid itself. I'm particularly worried about the effects on fertility of young women or even children who get covid. It's too early to tell. We might be decades before we know much about this disease and the vaccine.

Wincher · 10/04/2021 22:32

This is interesting - I had AZ three weeks ago and my period was due today and has not yet arrived (normally regular as clockwork). I’ll follow this thread and it’s useful to know it could be related - I won’t panic that I’m pregnant if it doesn’t arrive in the next day or so!

tammie49 · 10/04/2021 22:37

Interesting how so many women of child bearing age have already had it (appreciate there are a multitude of reasons). I'm 40 and a teacher and not even a sniff; the government don't care about teachers!!

Runway · 10/04/2021 22:37

None of this is weird. People skip periods, have delayed periods all the time. For what it’s worth I had the vaccine, got quite ill for 2 days then had my period as absolutely normal the next week. If you asked the question, whose period WASN'T affected by the vaccine it would likely be a huge amount more. Threads like this clearly only appeal to people whose periods haven’t been as clockwork that month....

Runway · 10/04/2021 22:41

There was a lot of people being forceful about the vaccine saying it won’t affect fertility but it’s telling that several of you have had this! I will be watching closely

@Bul21ia I’d probably listen to the scientists above a mumsnet post....and without being rude o doubt you have the scientific skill to ‘watch this closely’ with any real meaning

GlomOfNit · 10/04/2021 22:50

I got all excited (not sure 'excited' is the right word) because i recently skipped a period and had a 58 day cycle, which, given my peri status, is to be expected. But it was the first time I'd actually missed a period. And I realised I'd had the Pfizer jab before that cycle ended ... checked my diary and my epic cycle ended 7 days after my Pfizer, so it really can't have been related! Grin

This thread makes for very interesting, and sobering, reading though. Actually having Covid seems to screw up your cycles too, and I wonder if this is why the vaccines can do as well? Or could it merely be the being a bit unwell after the jab and your body not wanting to risk a pregnancy? Thinking about it, I can't say that I've ever had a late period following a bad cold or go of 'flu (and 'flu made me ill enough). I'd love to know what the incidences are of women skipping periods or having late ones after various illnesses.

Terracotta9 · 10/04/2021 22:52

@Runway
None of this is weird. People skip periods, have delayed periods all the time.

Except some women have 28-day clockwork cycles for decades. I did, until I had covid, and then experienced disruption to my cycle. This effect has been reported in the media for months. here’s a recent article which discusses it.

Very clearly, menstrual disruption appears as a side effect for covid infection AND the AstraZeneca vaccine.

I’m so tired of reading gaslighting bullshit that implies people don’t know their own bodies. Sorry, but some of us DO know when our cycles are disrupted, and some of us can time it precisely to a covid infection, or as this thread clearly shows, to a covid vaccine.
