Pfizer side effects second jab

Is this just the norm? I don't know one single person who hasn't had 24-48hrs of feeling rotten? Was booked in for the booster Friday and have cancelled as working fir the following 4 days after- so far everyone has reported fevers, aches and general grottyness (work in healthcare) it's not a problem, but will do it on days off next week instead, just looking for the general consensus

I had mine Monday. I have had side effects, but less bad than after dose one.

gerispringer · 24/03/2021 07:28

Had 2 doses - fine after both.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 24/03/2021 07:34

Watching with interest. DH and I both had quite unpleasant reactions to the first vaccine. We have our second on Friday and are hoping that the reaction being worse the second time isn’t true for us!

Still can’t wait to be fully vaccinated.

Phenoncular · 24/03/2021 07:38

I only had a sore arm for both doses

SD1978 · 24/03/2021 07:40

Extremely grateful that the vaccine is there and available- absolutely- it's juts the possible feeling like dogs balls for a few days I'm not looking forward to. Confused had no issue or reaction to the first one- o juts haven't found anyone at work who hasn't had more issues with the second yet. Happy to hear a few people have had no issues

You are just showing off Grin

But yes I thought that was the deal- Pfizer poorly after the second dose
Astra zenica poorly after the first dose.

Or you might feel fine.
It might be sensible to try and time it so you have a day or two off afterwards if you can.

Alittlebitofthis · 24/03/2021 07:49

I've had both the doses of the Pfizer.
After the first I had a bit of a sore head and sore arm. After the second, I was absolutely fine. Bit of a tender arm which was to be expected but that was all.

Thirtyrock39 · 24/03/2021 07:51

I was fine after both doses other than a sore arm

Scarby9 · 24/03/2021 07:51

In contrast, I don't know anyone who has had the Pfizer first or second jab who has had any side effects at all besides a slightly sore or warm arm.

Northernsoullover · 24/03/2021 07:55

I didn't have any after either. After hearing that side effects show its working I am almost miffed that I had none.

Twilightstarbright · 24/03/2021 07:56

Pfizer here. Ill after the first, nothing after the second.

PuzzledObserver · 24/03/2021 07:58

DH had his second Pfizer last week. As well as the obligatory sore arm, he had 24 hours of feeling a bit cold/shivery and tired. This was more than he had with the first jab, but still not a huge problem. As it happens, his appointment before he had 3 days off anyway (works part time).

Younger people in general seem to have more/stronger side effects, but there are still plenty of his younger colleagues who say they were fine. It’s just really variable from person to person.

SD1978 · 24/03/2021 08:17

Thanks guys. Must just be these weak Aussies I work with Grin

The majority of people we know had very few side effects with the second one! However there were a few that did end up bedridden for a few days, approx 3 out of 20.

I think it's a case of IF you are going to have a strong reaction then it will happen with the second one and they warned everyone at the appointment as well. However the majority of people really end up with nothing or very tolerable side effects that go away with one dose or paracetamol.

HuaShan · 24/03/2021 09:29

I had a reaction to both - mostly headache, aching limbs and tiredness. Started the day after vaccine and lasted 24-36 hrs

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 24/03/2021 09:31

No reaction to first
Sore arm and armpit after second
Nothing that would stop me working.

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/03/2021 09:36

Only sore arm with the 1st, due my 2nd soon. Intrigued to know about 2nd jab side affects.

storminasnowglobe · 24/03/2021 09:43

I've had both now. Slightly bruised arm at point of injection both times. Maybe a slight headache/extra tiredness for a day or so after the second jab but nothing I could definitely put my finger on as a side effect.

mejon · 24/03/2021 12:41

I've had both. With the first I had a tender arm for around 36 hours afterwards (that developed the evening I was jabbed) then completely fine. I was very worried about stronger side effects with the 2nd dose as I'd heard they are likely to be worse. I only had arm tenderness again and a very mild headache that wasn't bad enough for painkillers. Again, the arm pain went after 24-36 hours.

Digestive28 · 24/03/2021 12:45

Had second Pfizer two days ago and feel awful. Have had covid and it feels similar - headaches, shivering etc. Same with first and lasted 72 hours. Hopeful I’ll feel fine tomorrow. Not ideal but the hope it provides makes it manageable

meow1989 · 24/03/2021 12:48

2nd Pfizer worse than first for me - headache, nausea, achingly, extreme tiredness..all better after 26 hours. Anecdotally my colleagues have all so far reported similar

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 24/03/2021 12:55

Had it yesterday before work. Apart from a funny smelling sweat and a sore arm, I felt great yesterday. Took 2 paracetamol at bed. Woke up early today, felt ok arm sore though.

Oh. my. goodness.

Around 10am I started feeling dreadful. Like I had the full blown flu. Chills, body aches, my face hurts, I’ve had diarrhoea and felt very sick, not able to stomach any food so far. Didn’t feel like this with the first dose. First dose I was tired, sore, large red arm for a week, loss of appetite but I was able to work.

Elderly parents seem fine, sore arm, bit tired but up and about, done the food shop. I can’t even contemplate getting out of bed to go to the toilet although I will have to.

When I was offered my first in Jan the receptionist told me to book a couple of days off work for my second. Thank goodness I did.

Anecdotally, everyone older I know (70+) that’s had it has been fine but it seems the younger you are the worse you feel with side effects. I’m always fine after the flu jab but have been extremely ill with travel and pneumonia vaccinations. Again, my youngest colleagues were also much more affected with the same vaccines.

My sibling was as ill as I am with same symptoms and we suspect both of us had Covid last January. I caught it from them. I’ve also heard anecdotally those who have already had Covid are more likely to have worse reactions to the vaccine. One of my parents was extremely ill in 2019 with A coronavirus and they have been more affected than the other parent...but still up and about. It’s just the iller parent never complains of being ill but have said they are tired (fell asleep 6 hours before bed), headache and sore arm.

Carycy · 24/03/2021 13:04

Had my second Pfizer yesterday. After the first I had a fever and chills. So far nothing apart from a sore arm. Keeping my fingers crossed that’s it. Will update if any changes.

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 24/03/2021 13:25

Right OP...plenty of time here to reflect now. So in retrospect this is what I wish I’d done to prepare.

Set up station by bed with;

Paracetamol
Ibuprofen
Big bottles of water
Juice or Lucozade
Plain type biscuits (Digestives or Oatcakes etc)
Couple bananas
Electric Blanket or Throw
Extra socks, fleece or hoodie, layers you can add or take off.
Have some meals in freezer.
