This suggests they were cerebral venous thrombosis

www.google.com/amp/s/www.jioforme.com/how-much-do-you-need-to-worry-about-reporting-blood-clots-and-astrazeneca-vaccines/262698/amp/

This shows how often they have occured in the last 10 years in America.
It suggests they are most common in "young women" at a rate of 20 per million per year

Not sure of the import of this, but apparently the DfE guidance has now changed as to whether secondary students need to use the home LFTs they've been issued with through the Easter holidays. Staff haven't been told to do the same.

It was not to test until the day before term starts. Now it's to continue testing twice a week, as they are currently doing from next week. Therefore all students need issuing with two further boxes of three tests!

I wonder why the change has been advised. It will cause further confusion and potential disengagement (by students/families) from the process.

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/03/2021 10:36

*sorry, I meant that the guidance to staff has not currently been changed, therefore they are not testing throughout the holidays.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 18/03/2021 12:26

I don't see much point in testing my antisocial teen through the holidays as he is unlikely to leave his bedroom. Seems a waste of tests.

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2021 13:59

Well, to be cynical. it's because HMGov want schools to continue doing track and trace throughout the holidays (again).

Cornettoninja · 18/03/2021 15:55

That’s an interesting angel @MRex, particularly as it has been reported that internal damage has been identified in people who has completely asymptomatic cases.

If that did turn out to be the case I wonder if anyone would recommend antibody tests before vaccination. It would prolong the vaccination programme though.

Firefliess · 18/03/2021 16:21

I'd be quite keen to test my teenager a few days into the school holidays in order to protect us if she has managed to pick something up from school. Agree that it's not so useful in protecting schools. I imagine the more diligent parents will just get in the habit of testing the whole family regularly, and a lot of others won't. Though some might be persuaded to do a one off test at the start of term.

Today's data is out btw - 5,758 cases, down just a tiny bit on 5,962 reported on Wednesday a week ago. Similar levels of testing. Deaths and admissions continuing to fall at a good pace.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 18/03/2021 16:27

I see 6,303 cases for today. Not 5,758 - was that yesterday's?

Doomsdayiscoming · 18/03/2021 16:41

Down on a week ago. 6700 a week ago

Doomsdayiscoming · 18/03/2021 16:44

3 patients in my local hospital. One of whom on a ventilator. No patients admitted since 9th March.

Down from Jan peak of 187.

Vaccination should have been targeted to deprived, city areas.

(This is Suffolk)

Doomsdayiscoming · 18/03/2021 16:48

Hard to justify a lockdown when your hospital is empty of covid patients...

Stupid Tories.

I hope they use their brains and vaccinate poorer areas opening up to anyone and stop vaccinating rural affluent areas with high uptake. Oh and if they want to use all 7 of their brain cells, don’t vaccinate those with a positive test in the last 6 months.

This is the quickest route of this, FOR EVERYONE.

Firefliess · 18/03/2021 16:59

Yes you're right. It was saying it was updated but showing me yesterday's numbers. And yes, still a small fall on a week ago
boys3 · 18/03/2021 17:00

specimen date numbers for England.

Wednesday 18th

1745 cases added, 12% up on the equivalent last week, 1553 - that number was 42% higher than the equivalent figure for the previous week.

Tuesday 16th

Second day of reporting, 2875 cases added, taking total to 4289, just under 9% lower than the equivalent last week.

Monday 15th

Third day of reporting 420 cases added taking total to 5426, 3% lower than equivalent last week.

For the cases added today 96.7% had spec dates from Monday to Wednesday.

Sunday 14th

105 cases added, total 3606 so remains 1.6% higher than equivalent last week.

Saturday 13th

40 cases added, total 3454, 6.6% lower than equivalent last.

Wk from Monday 15th

11460 cases so far as compared with 11855 at the same point last week, so this week just past 3% lower so far. The number of LFDs reported on the dashboard for the first three days of this week is 3,835,896, close to 4% lower than the first three days of last week.

MRex · 18/03/2021 17:11

@boys3 - are there significantly more LFD tests being done on a Monday do you know? Just wondering if that might have a per day effect to watch.

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2021 17:14

Most schools are saying Sunday and Weds for LFTs

ThrowawaySecondarySchool · 18/03/2021 17:32

Our school did their 3rd round of tests on Monday this week. (No positives, but our community numbers are reasonably low too.) Testing kits being sent home for Sunday and Wednesday, yes.

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2021 17:34

We had a n interesting one where a child went home poorly one day. Came in the next day. Thankfully, was due her third LFT (may even be why she came in!).. Tested positive. 20 students now SI.

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/03/2021 17:41

But that's for testing st home isn't it piggy, these figures will more likely be for in school testing - which for us has been roughly equal numbers every day of the two week period.
LockdownIsDragging · 18/03/2021 17:43

Our school is asking us to test on Monday and Thursday before sending our children in.

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2021 17:43

Yup jan, but many have already started the home testing. My DS has done two already.

FATEdestiny · 18/03/2021 17:54

.

AbstractDot · 18/03/2021 18:12

Where exactly is the data for local hospitals? Its one thing I struggle to find.

boys3 · 18/03/2021 19:15
@boys3 - are there significantly more LFD tests being done on a Monday do you know? Just wondering if that might have a per day effect to watch.
Going back to the start of Feb Monday is fairly consistently the peak day, not excessively so, with between 19% and 21% of weekly LFDs. This for England.

W/c 1st March saw the peak on the Thursday, with Friday also some way ahead of Monday. That would most likely be due to some schools getting testing going ahead of the return on 8th.

Thanks ladies.

@AbstractDot - some data is only weekly and not all info is on the covid site.

John Deeks' view on the in-school LFT results. Let's hope Michael Mina responds?
