Looks like Europe may have got their way

Even if my child was allowed to wear a mask in class - which she wants to do (and if everyone else was, teachers and children - in her year 6 class of 30 in a tiny room) then I'd feel differently. But they've sent my kids back into crowded schools with no protection at all against airborne spread and I have no-one to look after my kids if their late 40s parents with underlying conditions get ill. “

Where are you that your children are not allowed to wear masks? Required in all areas in our Sixth Form College (including classrooms), barring medical exemptions. They are required to take a LF test before each day in College (2 each week) as well.

I don’t believe a child can be prevented from wearing a mask now? I believe it’s DfE
recommendation?

I suspect those suggestions come straight from the ether without passing any facts on the way.

How the idea of shareholders and profit comes into it, with an at cost vaccine, is just odd.

Mamaof2males · 18/03/2021 20:29

Don’t forget if you are a carer for someone you are eligible to book the vaccine despite your age.

coffeewithcream · 18/03/2021 20:29

I'm working full time in a college too. Was really hoping to have the vaccine soon. It is scary

Was going to say what a load of bollox, but you’ve said it in a far more dignified fashion 😁
It’s not even being produced by AZ in India.

The Times has reported today that India has shipped 60 million doses of COVID vaccines to 75 countries and thus far has only administered 35 million doses at home. Also they have had 36,000 new COVID diagnoses today representing a substantial uptick in infections.

Nobody can knock them for prioritising domestic needs for a while

earnshaw47 · 18/03/2021 22:00

i have an idea that the EU are trying to block our supplies from elsewhere, my daughter , 51 and her husband have had their first vaccine today , my other daughter 47 was so hoping to get hers soon, not sure its going to happen now

Bubula8 · 18/03/2021 22:19

@Bluntness100

People hAve to remember we are not in lock down to eliminate Covid. It’s to release the pressure on the nhs. People under fifty with no underlying health conditions are hugely unlikely to get seriously ill.

So with your over fifties and cev vaccinated you release the pressure on the nhs and hugely reduce the death rates, which allows society to open up.

In addition. It’s a four week delay on the over fifties only. People need to calm down and not panic.

🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Finally someone talking sense!!!

It’s a delay of a few weeks. That’s it.

Is your 'idea' based on any facts? Hmm
eastegg · 18/03/2021 23:09

@CooDeGrass

Very disappointed at this news. I’m 49 and was hopeful I’d have mine within the next month.

Could also do without the pious “I don’t mind, I’m glad the vulnerable are being done first” messages. That’s fine if you’re 20, and talking about someone who’s 80+. It’s not as comforting when your friends/siblings/peers are suddenly divided into those officially At Risk enough to need a jab, and those literally days or weeks younger for whom all is apparently tickety-boo.

I do understand that there always had to be a cut off. But this really stings.

Totally agree coodegrass. Especially when some younger people have already been vaccinated, purely by age. I'm 46 and have to go out to work and use public transport. I suppose there's a chance our appointment letters could be in the post, but more likely it will be 2 months yet.
Pastanred · 18/03/2021 23:15

almost everyone i know under 50 has booked as an unpaid carer

everyone is doing it now the vulnerable done

amazed they arent checking

all have been sucessfull

eastegg · 18/03/2021 23:27

Those people you know pastanred are a disgrace. They have taken their vaccine from someone who needed it more. Someone who now will have to wait quite a bit longer and may get Covid in the meantime.

Pastanred · 18/03/2021 23:29

I agree
But the system shouldn’t allow it

Dugee · 18/03/2021 23:38

I'm under 50 and I'm having my jab on Saturday. I got a text about 10 days ago. No underlying conditions. It just seems very random. I would give my vaccine to someone more needy if that was an option.

EasterIssland · 18/03/2021 23:40

I thought they were requesting for proof. A while back there was a banner that if you said you were a carer but couldn’t proof it then you’d be refused the vaccine

Squidwardrules · 18/03/2021 23:41

I booked as an unpaid carer (which I am) and wasn’t even allowed inside the vaccination centre without showing proof (carers allowance letter from DWP)
EasterIssland · 18/03/2021 23:45

I’ve just tried and lied for my dh (I’ve already had it) and yeah it does allow him booking it. (I haven’t done it ) I’m pretty sure that before the unpaid carer bit was added there was a banner that you had to proof you were a health worker

If I choose H worker then it says
If you are eligible you need to bring official proof with you to have your vaccination. For example, a work ID card, wage slip or letter from your employer dated within the last 3 months.

!
Warning If you do not bring official proof with you to your appointment you will not be vaccinated and will need to book again.

Let’s hope not many people now pretend to be uncarer workers

EasterIssland · 18/03/2021 23:48

carers.org/guidance-on-coronavirus/coronavirus-vaccine-faqs-for-unpaid-carers

Do I need ID to prove I’m a carer at the vaccine centre?

When you go and get your vaccine, take along with you the confirmation of your appointment, photo ID if you have it to prove your identity (such as your name) , and your NHS number if you have it. You do not need to provide proof you are a carer.

Elford · 19/03/2021 01:11

Hi no don’t have to prove your a carer . Had my 1st vaccine today , they didn’t even ask for booking reference (I am a carer for my daughter ) I never got asked for ID either not my husband , Goodluck hope all goes well , I’m sat up currently with the side affects , but least it’s done now :-)

BitterestPill · 19/03/2021 02:05

I've had my first vaccine as I'm cev, just waiting on my second whilst still shielding.
We had a call today from my GP to book my 17 year old daughter in for her vaccine, when I questioned why, I was told it was because of her underlying health condition, that she doesnt have, they went and checked, apparently because she had one ecg 5 years ago, she needs to be vaccinated Hmm makes no sense at all when not a single teacher at her school has had one? ... who makes up these rules?

PixieQ12 · 19/03/2021 02:16

Confused by all the concern over delays. Sure, makes sense to vaccinate those that wouldn’t fair well if they got Covid but for the majority, most don’t even know they have it without being tested. Data limited right now (and for another 2 years) as still in experimental phase, zero liability for vaccine injury, still unsure whether it prevents infection and/or transmission so I’m failing to see the point. Given past blunders re corona vaccines, would rather take a wait and see approach before volunteering for human experimentation...

Furries · 19/03/2021 02:25

I’m very lat forties. The last couple of weeks, I’d been feeling fairly optimistic that it wouldn’t be too long until I’d be able to book myself in. So I completely understand the disappointment that many in this age bracket are feeling.

But then I think back to 7 or 8 months ago, when this site was awash with multiple posts along the lines of “it’ll be at least 2 years until we get a vaccine” and then “they’ll never get it right, it will take ages, they’ll fuck it up”.

Even seeing MK having the first jab, I still didn’t think we’d be where we are today.

So, it’s disappointing for me on a personal level. But, looking objectively, we’re in a much better place than I ever thought we would be. Whilst some of the messaging in briefings has been a bit “woolly”, I’m pleased that there has not been any throwing toys out of the pram yet. We had a fairly similar situation early in December (can’t remember the specifics), but it meant that supplies were going to be held up. No histrionics, just carried on with logistics and we are now where we are.

Am I disappointed that I can’t book in as soon as I thought? Yes.

But I also realise that the timeframe I was hoping for was way earlier than actually anticipated in the beginning.

And a big shout out to those working in all the vaccination sites, thank you!

StarCat2020 · 19/03/2021 04:08

We are not facing another wave, and are unlikely to any time soon
Sorry but that is exactly what the SAGE documents that informed the roadmap stated.

There will be another wave but the severity of it could range from minor to January 2021 levels.

Releasing restrictions too early is thought to be the most likely reason for a more severe wave.

No you don’t need proof your a carer. As @EasterIssland says it’s on the gov website that you don’t. I went for mind this week and didn’t show any proof. If anyone gets asked just show the gov info stating you don’t need to.
