Looks like Europe may have got their way

@WhereDoWeGo

Thanks ChameleonClara That makes sense... I was thinking you wouldn't even be offered the job unless you'd had it.
Currently that would be indirect age discrimination so would be illegal, as the only reason most 40 year olds haven't had the vaccine is age, not refusal.

Good luck finding work!

EmilyEmmabob · 18/03/2021 06:26

Younger people are going to have to wait even longer for their first jab, it'll most likely be after everything starts to open back up.

I knew this would end up a shambles.

Dongdingdong · 18/03/2021 06:42

I knew this would end up a shambles.

32 million of the oldest and most vulnerable in our society on target to receive a first dose by 15th April. Yup - what a shitshow Hmm

Itsalonghaul · 18/03/2021 06:43

Well Pjizer and AZ have just confirmed publicly that there are NO supply issues whatsoever to the UK.

So this really needs clarification as matter of urgency.

A few possible scenarios:

UK are giving our vaccines to the EU now the priority groups are completed. They haven't found a way to break the news to us yet.

The NHS are wrong and this is a mistake (unlikely)

The government are keen to get the priority groups done as a matter of urgency before moving onto any other groups, but why use 'supply' as a reason.

Itsalonghaul · 18/03/2021 06:45

The government are scaring people into taking up the vaccine right now to counter the negative EU campaign about safety. One thing that will make everyone run for an appointment now, is the idea that supply is drying up and they won't get one otherwise. I doubt they would do this, it would be a very dishonest way to convince people to have the jab.

I think it will resolve soon enough though.

3asAbird · 18/03/2021 06:47

I was a bit shocked about India as my understanding was they were never meant to supply eu or uk.
The mystery of helix in Netherlands thye have produced some vaccines they must be going sometime.
Even yesterday Hancock said uk supported and invested in eu factories as well as our own.
Newsnight said last night there are issues with moderna/phizer and j&j reaching their order amounts.
Producing vaccines is difficult.
The weak link in az is Belgium why can't they produce enough?
I don't think az are being super transparent.
How much do the 2 uk factories produce.

Thinking about it I fear uk and Europe will miss their vaccination targets of every adult by July.
We 12 days away from April.
I think there will be issues with Johnson and Johnson supplies they won't be the Knight in shining armour.
We clearly don't produce enough as on uk to meet our demands and have limited phizer.
Moderna was meant to arrive in a week or 2 now I have my doubts about that.

Dongdingdong · 18/03/2021 06:48

I can’t imagine this is the case. Why should we give our vaccines to the EU so they can just be stockpiled in a fridge?

AZ say there’s no supply issues, but what about the reports of the 5 million doses that are apparently delayed from the Serum Institute in India?

newlabelwriter · 18/03/2021 06:48

I just wanted to reassure some of you (I did comment a few pages back but probably got lost somewhere) I’m under 50, no underlying conditions and had a text yesterday AM to invite me for vaccine and I had it yesterday afternoon. DH who is younger than me having his today and many of my friends of similar age have been invited in too. I’m in London if that makes a difference. Had AZ and arm feels a bit sore but otherwise fine.

What I’d say is unless you’re noticing things actually slowing down, try not to worry. I was shocked at just how efficient everything this and I’ve been very cynical about how well things were running.

Dailywalk · 18/03/2021 06:49

My stress levels are sky high at this point. Almost every one I know has managed a way to get an appointment including an 18 year old. I’m so disappointed it feels like the goal posts have shifted. In my circle of friends I’m the only unlucky sod that’s caught Covid too. My work involves me going into peoples homes and we’ve stuck to the rules throughout. This feels like a real kick in the teeth. And if Covid passports become a thing then we can forget trying to go to visit my husbands family who live abroad any time soon.

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2021 06:52

@SummerBody1

There have been entire threads on here about what a mess the EU is making of the vxn rollout. In Ireland 95% of vxn delivered are in arms within 7 days. Our issue was always delivery.

Az applied for EU authorisation in January and received it within days. It applied for and received UK authorisation in December. This is not a delay on the part of the EU.

It's manufacturing plant in the Netherlands (Halix) has supplied zero vaccines to the EU - it has actually not submitted the paperwork to authorise supply. But where is this product going?

All this talk of OUR jabs. The EU was the largest funder of the Jenner Institute, the original creator of this vaccine.

The EU and UK supply contracts were actually signed ONE day apart (EU one actually first), with similar language, like 'best efforts'.

The EUs problem is not with the UK, it is with AZ, which seems to be a bad actor.

  1. 50% of AZ deliveries to the EU are sat in warehouses. People are refusing to have it.
  2. Thats AZ which are supplying the vaccine at cost. Unlike all the other big pharmaceutical companies who are in it for profit.

If that makes AZ 'a bad actor' we need a full reassessment of charitable and not for profit ventures full stop.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 18/03/2021 06:54

I’m surprised so many people are upset. In the UK, we are lucky to have had so many jabs so far. It does depend a bit on postcodes (I know a healthy 17 year old who had it). I am 49, with DD2 at secondary school, and I do know lots of people of my age who have had the vaccine. But I just assume it’s one of those things.

I would rather the older/more vulnerable people had the jabs, and I will just wait for my turn. Covid is likely to be around for a while, so a few more weeks of waiting won’t make that much difference.

I am disappointed I guess that I may not be able to go on holiday as soon as I would like, but that’s just me being selfish. I will just have to wait. Most of us will have had a horrendous last year, but we should just hope for the best, I suppose. I am not gutted, just accepting of a situation that is difficult for everyone. I am certainly not special.

The problem is not that everyone has been invited like you so now they won’t be invited until may. Yes things are moving fast but not enough for some people. The news is going to affect my family , it’s not the end of the world but I suspect many families were counting on being fully vaccinated by x date and now won’t be and this could have an impact. Also there will be people needing to go to work with no vaccines at all.

Thats not reassuring because theres a memo gone out saying doctors are no longer allowed to do this.

Its just salt in the wound saying 'im alright, i got mine, and im a bit ignorant of what the announcement' s implications are but dont you worry'. Whilst patting everyone who lives elsewhere on the hat like they are fucking idiots.

Dongdingdong · 18/03/2021 07:00

Good post @RaskolnikovsGarret, I couldn’t agree more.

Some of the posters on here who seem mightily upset are the same ones who were casting doubt on the rollout back in January, saying we’d never meet the 15th February target. Then we did meet it (early) and they went very quiet. Now, as soon as there’s a hiccup in the process they’re back on the board complaining that they’re not going to get their jab for a few more weeks. Some people will always find a reason to complain.

jackieweaverforpm · 18/03/2021 07:00

Also there will be people needing to go to work with no vaccines at all. Like the vast majority of teachers who are already at work and mixing with hundreds of other people day in, day out and who have been given no priority for the vaccine because apparently schools are vortexes through which Covid knows it must not pass.

newlabelwriter · 18/03/2021 07:00

Tbh I wasn’t counting on being vaccinated by a certain date, had a vague notion it would be in June at some point. Just speaking from experience here. Also not ignorant or treating people like they’re ‘fucking idiots’.

ChameleonClara · 18/03/2021 07:01

I’m surprised so many people are upset.

I do know that the UK has done exceedingly well. However, I'm not 'upset' I am concerned that we are already unlocking faster than is wise and if vaccines slow that leaves people, and the nation, exposed to higher risk.

Boris keeps saying 'data not dates' but he is a massive lying prat who only cares about his own position, a few thousand more deaths is no bother for him.

picknmix1984 · 18/03/2021 07:03

Can't we have the German and French stockpiled AZ that they apparently don't want?

Dongdingdong · 18/03/2021 07:08

Quite. If they don’t want them, we’ll take them!

@RedToothBrush For goodness sakes, stop. You sound like a spoilt child who’s been told they’ll have to wait a bit longer for their sweeties.

Same with dh but that doesn’t mean it’ll keep moving down as quickly. That’s the point of the thread.
TopTabby · 18/03/2021 07:10

The rollout has gone so much better than expected. I was originally not expecting to be vaccinated until at least June, that moved right up to March!
Latest news says still hoping all adults done by July. It's a shame it's not quicker but there's a lot of second doses to do.

Dongdingdong · 18/03/2021 07:12

This. So many entitled posters on here throwing their toys out of the pram because we’re still on schedule but not ahead of schedule. It’s embarrassing.

Doomsdayiscoming · 18/03/2021 07:14

People going to stop blaming the EU now?

India have let us down.

The EU ones are for vaccine, antibodies or pcr test. So will admittedly cost more but you'll still be able to go.
