Looks like Europe may have got their way

OP posts:
Avondklok · 17/03/2021 21:38

I'm 52 and dh is 63. No sign of a vaccine here and yet we manage to cope, Also child in school, which never shut since September.

duffeldaisy · 17/03/2021 21:39

As a note - no I don’t think there’s a reason been given. I just mentioned Covax because someone else mentioned it, but I’ve not seen a think about it since we signed up.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 21:39

@jasjas1973 but we haven't blocked any to the eu, they were never getting stock from here , if we have contract with pfizer or moderna and they block that despite ud having a contract then that would be wrong , but I don't think that is happening, plus also isn't something used in pfizer made in uk ? So all countries do need to be sensible
To me its just a natural slowdown as so many 2 nd jabs are due and anyone in 40's wasn't really expected in april were they ?
So it was always going to go a little slower once 2nd jabs get going and I bet people will still get called just at a slower rate

nonono1 · 17/03/2021 21:39

No no no, it mustn't i won't cope please don't say that.

Sorry, I hope I’m wrong but as Boris said, one of the four ‘tests’ for moving onto the next stage of the roadmap is for the vaccine programme to be continuing successfully. If there’s a massive slowdown in the vaccination roll-out then how can that target be met? I will be financially screwed even more than I already have been if we don’t come out of lockdown as soon as possible, so I’m not saying this from a position of privilege.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 21:39

@Avondklok you can book online

wintertravel1980 · 17/03/2021 21:40

You can sign up for vaccination on the NHS website. No letter/invitation is required:

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

You may have to drive / take public transport to the vaccination hub. Most of them have got same week (or even next day) appointments.

Avondklok · 17/03/2021 21:40

I can't because I am in the EU.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 21:41

@nonono1 not necessarily as are we not a bit ahead at moment therefore a potential slow down maybe puts us in target as opposed to behind

nonono1 · 17/03/2021 21:41

I’m not sure - it might not if we’re still on track for the initial target dates?

I hope so.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2021 21:41

We were ahead of schedule

The July target is still possible (I think)

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 21:41

@Avondklok oh sorry my a bad , teach me to read properly

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 17/03/2021 21:42

I think it’s more important for those at risk to have both doses of the vaccine.

An acquaintance has recently died of it but he was in his 60’s, a chain smoker and had COPD. Everyone else I’ve known whose had it, old and young, but otherwise healthy, have been ok.

nonono1 · 17/03/2021 21:42

@nonono1 not necessarily as are we not a bit ahead at moment therefore a potential slow down maybe puts us in target as opposed to behind

If that is the case then that’s good news, thank you.

"But while the UK was producing AstraZeneca vaccines, and “there are even two sites in the UK that are in our contract for potential deliveries for the EU"'

Why were there 2 sites in the UK in the contract for potential delivery to the UK if they were never getting stock from the UK?

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 21:48

@greenlynx are they vaccinating 16 year olds ??

Avondklok · 17/03/2021 21:48

I have to say for months I have been reading about the evil EU trying to steal YOUR vaccines as UK has it super organised and shit and how it's all the EUs own fault. And now there is an issue in U.K. it's ever so unfair, and somehow ALSO the fault of the EU. Despite nearly everyone vulnerable and over 50 being offered a vaccination. It's like you can't be happy with that, and STILL have to complain. It's a bit mind boggling for me. It doesn't seem like the same country anymore. 😢

Group6CantBook · 17/03/2021 21:49

I'm vulnerable and in a refuge. Had GP invite but obviously not at home. NHS site tells me I'm ineligible. GP says I need to wait several weeks for it to register me. Now looks like it'll be more than a few weeks. Feel like a sitting duck in a refuge. So upset to be at risk because of fleeing domestic abuse.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 21:51

@jasjas1973 well this goes back to the original contract and the difference between ours and theirs and tbf at the moment a lot of eu countries have paused it so there not desperate for it if not using at the moment
And the companies that have the contracts also have duties to fulfil as per the contract so if eu block Pfizer , what will pfizer have to say who to my knowledge are not owned by the eu

God, that's awful. I'm so sorry. Try your MP?
sleepwouldbenice · 17/03/2021 21:53

@happypuppymummy

I'm 50 in April. Gutted to be honest.
I hear you, June here Especially hearing random 30 and 40 year olds living up the road from me getting it But then I hear about those who are group 6 etc and well overdue.... Sigh and carry on
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 21:54

@Avondklok its not like this in real life with people I know , my dh in 40's we didn't really expect to get done to around end april/ may and probably still likely on target for that
Most people are pleased its going well and just want things to start opening up once the most vulnerable and elder age groups are done

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 17/03/2021 21:56

@Group6CantBook has gp only just updated your details ? Im group 6 and managed to book last week , keep checking daily if you can as could change

TalkingIntoTheEther · 17/03/2021 21:56

group6 check to see if there are any homeless health services where you are, women in refuge are legally classed as homeless. Nationally those who are homeless have been prioritised for the vaccine, local homeless health teams might be able to help.

Abracadabra12345 · 17/03/2021 21:56

@Racoonworld

I don't understand the issue. I thought the plan was always to get priority groups done by mid-April then start on the rest, with all adults by end of July. Add into that second doses ramping up now and of course they wont vaccinate many under 50's before end of April. I don't understand why so many non CV under 50's seemed to think they would be getting it in the next few weeks, the plan has been published for ages now.
I’m the same. I don’t understand where these expectations have come from. Surely it was obvious that 2nd doses would slow things down? I like that we have done it this way, pushing on to vaccinate the most vulnerable first and then returning to give the booster doses. It makes sense. If you were 40s and clinically vulnerable, you’d be in the higher priority group and thus vaccinated.
greenlynx · 17/03/2021 21:56

@donewithitalltodayandxmas
Yes, group 6 is 16-64 who are clinically vulnerable. Those who are extremely clinically vulnerable are in group 4. 16-18 y.o. can only get Pfizer, AZ is approved from 18 y.o.
