This just came up on my phone. I had the AZ vaccine 10 days ago. I'm concerned about the news of blood clotting issues.

Enough! You are babbling utter nonsense.

How can you, or most of us, do scrupuluous research?

A- people like you are spouting lost of scientific terms without any underpinning data

B- most if us don't have the education to understand the legitimate data. We rely on experts to do their jobs and report back to us

C- too many journalists are forgetting themsleves n attempts to get a good an scary headline

You babble on about being open to coercion. Being open to misinformation and then disseminating it without a care is far worse!

dropthedeadhorse · 16/03/2021 10:54

There is no evidence that the AZ vaccine causes blood clots. Do you know what does cause blood clots? Covid. Get the vaccine.

Cathrp · 16/03/2021 10:55

What do you mean by ' experimental gene therapy'? Can you explain, I don't understand!

Sits and waits... Smile
TheKeatingFive · 16/03/2021 11:05

I'm not telling ppl to not have it, but we all owe it to ourselves to scrupulously research it for an informed choice.

No individuals have the skills or access to the data to ‘scrupulously research’ it for themselves. What total horseshit.

The world certainly seems to be divided on an awful lot of issues at the moment never mind UK v EU in regards to AZ.

The bottom line in the UK is our vaccinations always go well because they are entirely voluntary. That is why we have over 90% taking it up of those done so far.
If you don't want it don't have it - that is what voluntary means. I tend to be pro vaccination but probably will not have this one. I have had the call. I might wait until later in the year or next year or just see how things go. I am still sitting on the fence.

Everyone has a free choice in the UK. We are a free country and just decide what you want to do on this. No one is forcing anyone.

Is there a confusion here between ' strokes', as in the condition where there is blockage of an artery in the brain, and pulmonary embolism and DVTs ( Deep Veinous Thrombosis)?

Cathrp · 16/03/2021 11:16

Curious about samphire, I find that it is best to try and elucidate first what people believe in order to explain next why their opinion may be wrong.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/03/2021 11:27

Say that again?

You haven't tried to do anything other than peddle anti vaxx crap!

I am not sure that first sentence makes sense

You find it is best to try to make people's thinking clear before explaining their error of thinking/belief?

Or did you erroneously use the term 'elucidate'?

Ken1976 · 16/03/2021 11:27

These people would have blood clots whether they had a vaccine or not . You are very much more at risk of having a clot with covid than you are with the vaccine .

Cathrp · 16/03/2021 11:29

Exactly that, thank you! I am having problems finding my words todaySmile

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/03/2021 11:36

@Cathrp

Start again! Because that really cannot be what you meant!

I think you meant

Find out what people do think before leaping in to educate them!

Because that is what I did. I read your previous posts, worked out you were relying on misinformation from various anti vaxxers and am now trying to make you see that you are wrong Smile

Cathrp · 16/03/2021 12:01

No you have the wrong end of the stick here! I am pro vaccine, a retired medical practitioner and a person who was vaccinated two days ago.
I clearly didn't phrase my thinking clearly earlier. What I meant was, try to understand why people talk about ' experimental gene experiments and understand what their fears are. With that knowledge, it is easier to dispel myths.

Cathrp · 16/03/2021 12:03

Error : 'experimental gene therapy'

Thank goodness for that!

So it was just that you agreed with a poster without reading the links they posted? On this topic that can be a fatal error Grin

I think many here, including me, have been doing so much of that that, when faced with the obvious anti vaxx stuff, like the long list in the post that has been deleted, we make our own assumptions.

I am really happy that we have that ironed out though Grin

knittingaddict · 16/03/2021 12:30

I think you and Cathrp are on the same side CuriousaboutSamphire. Cathrp was basically calling on that person to explain their weird conspiracy theory, which they can never do. Have I got that right?

Annina2 · 16/03/2021 12:31

Ireland is NOT halting use of AZ - your heading is misleading and scaremongering, please change it! Thank you.

Kaylasmum49 · 16/03/2021 13:06

Annina I read on a news story that Ireland was halting the use of AstraZeneca. I posted as I had the vaccine 12 days and I am concerned. Was hoping that by posting my fears could be dispelled. I had absolutely no intention of scaremongering.

pam290358 · 16/03/2021 13:34

@MRex. Well said. I posted on this thread with an account of our personal experience of Covid, in response to the sometimes ludicrous arguments the anti vaxers have put forward on here and I agree with everything you say. The vaccine may have some unpleasant side effects in some people, and yes, maybe more severe reactions in others, but isn’t this a small price to pay ? Unfortunately it’s’ only when you experience it first hand, that you realise the havoc Covid can wreak on the human body, and for me, the experience put things in perspective. As well as the long term effects I described in my post, I have been advised today that I am now borderline for type 2 diabetes - probably as a result of the Covid, as there was no threat of it beforehand. The bottom line is that no one knows how Covid will affect them until they get it. IMHO it’s madness to wait around and hope that you’re not too badly affected when you have the opportunity for a vaccine that will ensure not only that the NHS is not overwhelmed, but that the effects if you DO get Covid, are minimised. We need herd immunity and if enough people refuse the vaccine we won’t get it. It’s a free country, and I’m not advocating forcing people to take the vaccine, but at the same time I really do think that taking a conscious decision not to protect yourself and others is lazy and selfish.

Yeah! I was slow on the uptake. I think I've spent too much time trying to remain patient with the weirdness.

I'm hoping she'll forgive me 😊

minchinfin · 16/03/2021 15:29

HAs anyone linked to this (I hope he's not a rabid anti-vaxxer :) )? blogs.sciencemag.org/pipeline/archives/2021/03/16/what-is-going-on-with-the-astrazeneca-oxford-vaccine#comment-340455

Interesting article but probably more interesting are the comments below - lots of viewpoints and info from US, Denmark etc.

FaithfullyYours · 16/03/2021 16:15

Can anyone link to where I can find details about Pfizer vaccine being linked to the blood clots more than AZ? Thank you.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/03/2021 16:19

There were some links way back up thread, Page one had some I think!
