Just realised I haven't been on here for ages..... I started the thread off, and we were having lots of good news, and then it all went a bit downhill. Then I had a break from MN, with the good weather, got out in the garden, and that's where I am spending most of my time now. Decided this year is the digging up and re-doing year. Last year we bought new garden furniture and umbrellas in lieu of a holiday, this year the garden gets a mini-makeover. Dug up and removed a few old tired shrubs, uncovered a "rotunda", bistro set on order from Ikea, and will replant with roses and clematis :-). Need to plant a few more trees too, neighbours keep cutting them down, so I like to redress the balance.

On jab front, all my brothers and sisters in law about to have their second jabs, all late 60's and early 70's. So that's excellent news.

DM's house also just sold, just waiting for probate now...... all the government departments are overwhelmed..... everything delayed. But hoping that it all comes together and we can finally put that life event to one side.

@CornishYarg

I posted this on the Good News 11 thread on 1 March:

"My marshall shifts are at a small pharmacy with 3 vaccinators. The maximum they're expected to do is just under 400 jabs a day in total. But they thought they could manage more so booked in another 125 people to see how it went...and they did it. So one small pharmacy did just over 500 jabs yesterday - really impressive."

After a couple of weeks off due to supply issues, I was back there yesterday. They did 730 jabs during the day! They're now doing double the standard allocation. The 3 pharmacists/vaccinators work from 8-8 with just a couple of short breaks; they're like super efficient vaccine ninjas! They are phenomenal and I'm so proud to be helping them.

And I was one of the 730 jabbed there yesterday as I was given my 2nd dose Smile

that is phenomenal. I am helping out at a medium sized gp hub. We have 8-10 vaccinators each day and do between 1000 and 1500 per day and it seems to be a pretty well oiled machine and I thought that figure was great. 730 between 3 vaccinators is absolutely brilliant.

Only 32 vaccinated people have been hospitalised!

@Level75 - that’s great news!

In a strange way, it’s nice to see that this thread has been getting a bit quieter. Indicates that things are starting to look a bit more positive.

FreyaFolkvangr · 21/04/2021 10:21

I read that this morning and was thrilled. It's amazing. It makes me proud of all the scientists who have so worked on getting the different jabs developed. It's an astonishing achievement that they work that well.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/04/2021 10:24

Yes that is how I see it. Less people needing support or waiting for their jabs. Everyone just out there living again Smile

The 32 people thing is brilliant. That is from 3 weeks after the 1st jab. So total vindication again of our vaccination strategy 🥳

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/04/2021 10:25

Agree the scientists totally rock❤

Just coming on to share this too. What amazing news. And these 32 were people hospitalised not the number of vaccinated people who died. So it's even better news.

Just hoping the rest of the population can get vaccinated ASAP.

PomLikeTheBattle · 21/04/2021 14:33

Wow that's amazing news ! Thanks for posting.

Don't you mean PaRtLy VaCcInAtEd 😉

Which in itself us even better news, because even 1 jab is enough to have a massive effect (though it never going to be admitted!)

Frazzled2207 · 21/04/2021 16:48

Regarding the 32 people thing. There is discussion about this on another thread but I don’t think it’s quite that simple. In just today’s death figures 12 over 80s died in hospital within 30 days of a covid test. Are we supposed to believe they (and all the other over 80s who’ve been on the death statistics for weeks) were all one of the less than 2% or so over 80s not vaccinated? Something not quite right there.

But of course if the vaccine has massively reduced hospitalisations that is a very good thing.

TeenMinusTests · 21/04/2021 17:11

20% of adults have now had 2 jabs.

Bordois · 21/04/2021 18:00

2% of 3.2 million is 64,000 so thats still a lot of unvaccinated over 80s, so its not unfeasible that the 12 reported in todays figures were unvaccinated (also baring in mind that deaths reported today could have actually occured days, weeks or months ago)

It really is that simple

Of the 74000 hospitalised since we started vaccinating. I think is was that figure or near enough. 2000 had been vaccinated at the time of hospitalisation. However those were all but 32 infected one week either side of the jab.

People need to understand that infection happens at least 14 to 28 day in most cases. Sometimes a lot longer.

The truth is obviously that most hospitalisation happened at the peak of this wave in December and January when not many people were jabbed. Therefore the comparison number is a smaller. However the drop of is still big and proof the vaccine works well after only one jab.

So quite frankly I say to the good news doomsters "Nah nah nah nah 😜"
.

Have you seen just how effective the Oxford vaccine is proving to be??

twitter.com/sailorrooscout/status/1384831760668692483?s=21

(Covishield is ox/az)

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/04/2021 20:47

Lovely lovely lovely ❤

In real world data it has always been shown to be a lead. Just the media never seem to pick up on that much, if at all. Out performs Pfizer on stopping hospitalisations repeatedly. Though of course not by much. Pfizer is also very good.

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum
I'm most definitely not a good news doomsdayers, I have posted several very positive articles on these threads which a quick search would prove.
I am merely pointing out that that particular statistic is misleading and I've seen read plenty of twitter threads doubting it. No need to go into them here.
I have no doubt that the vaccination has had and will have a huge impact on hospitalisations and deaths. However I fully accept that negative comments are not welcome on this particular thread so shall bear that in mind in future.

Sorry honey wasn't aiming that at you.

Just commenting on some threads and their repeatedly negative posters really. Sure you recognise some posters that refuse to see the light even if a spotlight was in their face.

Anyway I haven't the energy at the moment for those threads but you can always correct us here if wrong. I definitely need that on a regular basis (Mostly my SPAG)😂 Good to have a little debate in a safe place Smile

I may be wrong, but I think these threads have had this discussion before and it was agreed that while it is mainly a thread to discuss the good news that is going on rather than the doom and gloom news that has been here, there and everywhere, it still needs to have some truth to it.

I personally think that people (and I don't mean anyone in particular) need to be aware of the facts. Just like some people can see the doom and gloom in everything I rather not be the complete opposite of that and have my head in the sand. I like this thread because it does offer the hope that there is some good news out there and its not all doom and gloom.

Hope that makes sense.

Anyway back to the reason why I came on:
Someone at work mentioned today that they have started J&J vaccines here. Have they? I didn't think they were approved yet. I didn't say anything in case I was wrong, but another person seemed to agree with them.

Also how long has the vaccines been opened to 45+? Is it about 10 days now? Do we know how many (OK more specifically how long I suppose) there are? I'm 42, but still checking to see if I can book. Obvs I can't just yet.

Frazzled2207 · 21/04/2021 22:23

@OrangeBananaFish
@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

yeah fair enough. I do also like this thread because it's generally a positive place. But I get cross when, especially in the Daily Fail but occasionally on MNet there is a headline which people see and share then actually when you read into a bit there's not much sense behind it. And as we have seen the broadsheet newspapers get it a bit wrong sometimes too. I am generally a guardian reader and been quite shocked by some of their articles recently which are ridiculously doomy.

Frazzled2207 · 21/04/2021 22:25

@OrangeBananaFish
also 42 and wondering this! They are only getting through about 100,00 new 1st vaccines per day at the moment so we might have to wait a bit longer, that said I have many many under 45 friends who have had theirs as their areas are ahead. The GPs round here are still very busy with the 45+ but we're not too far from a mass vaccination site so am hoping we can at least book soon.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/04/2021 22:32

UK population 2019. I don't know how much it has changed since.

Age Million
20-24 4.15
25-29 4.51
30-34 4.5
35-39 4.4
40-44 4.02
45-49 4.4

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/04/2021 22:33
