My DD, age 19, got her first Pfizer jab at a Walgreens pharmacy (the US affiliate of Boots) this morning in Massachusetts. Grin

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 17/04/2021 18:17

@Furries

48 and had my jab this afternoon. Was at a local community centre and it was all really well organised.

Was surprised by just how quick the jab was. I’m used to B12 injections, this was a doddle in comparison. Am now hunkering down and awaiting side effects 😂

Hopefully you won't get anything more than a sore arm ❤

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum - fingers crossed! Forgot to say, I had the AZ vaccine.

For anyone who is nervous of needles etc (I blooming hate needles), it was so quick and painless. I told the nurse she was a ninja jabber it was that quick!

MissConductUS · 18/04/2021 12:36

New Yorkers age 50 and over can now walk into a clinic and get a covid jab without an appointment.

nypost.com/2021/04/17/new-yorkers-50-plus-dont-need-appointment-for-covid-vaccination/

I've also heard stories on National Public Radio here that within the next month or so vaccine supply will start to exceed demand in many areas. NYC may well be a trendsetter based on the decision to start allowing walk-ins.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 18/04/2021 16:57

They are doing the walk in and get jabbed if over 45 or cev in some places here too. I have seen social media announcements for places around London. Walthamstow library is on Wednesdays I think. You just show up and they jab you.

OrangeBananaFish · 18/04/2021 18:52

Just marking my place. Still no sign for 42YO me and vaccine. I'm still checking though Grin

This is very interesting news. It's thought that antipsychotic drugs may help protect against coronavirus.

I’ve been lurking for a while and I’ve really appreciated this thread. I’m beginning to get concerned about the India mutation and fact it isn’t on red list. Please can someone talk me down?

tobee · 19/04/2021 09:57

From Sky News this morning:-

Dr Jeffrey Barrett, director of the COVID-19 Genomics Initiative at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, said that the variant of the virus first identified in India should be "watched carefully" but it is "probably not at the top tier of mutations that generate the most concern".

tobee · 19/04/2021 10:02

Honestly the press all weekend, on here alll weekend, people just go hysterical. "Double mutation" - omg has to be bad!!! But it's not yet a "variant of concern" just a "variant under investigation". Mutations (so much of a loaded word rather than just variant, which we're all used to now,) can happen in U.K. as well. Kent variant for e.g. wreaking havoc across the world.

Conclusions are easily jumped to.

I've just posted this on another thread. And also about Boris Johnson no longer going to India. People are just talking about Boris Johnson but not the other bit!!!

schroeder · 19/04/2021 14:55

I think all this talk of mutations and variants is just a side show. The press just can't stop talking about coronavirus, while we are still under restrictions, but the real story is pretty simple- cases are going down, hospitalisations are going down, deaths are going down and vaccinations are going up!
In the UK anyway, I appreciate it's a whole different thing globally.

EasterIssland · 19/04/2021 16:05

Only 4 deaths reported yesterday , I know it was Sunday but it's amazing number really

Bordois · 19/04/2021 16:13

Wales were reporting for a 48 hour period too!
Imfedupwithallofthis · 19/04/2021 16:28

On Morning Live this morning variants were mentioned.
Dr Zand said a lot of people see them mentioned in the press and start getting worried.
He said he sees reports in the press and thinks what a wonderful job we are doing in identifying them all!

tobee · 19/04/2021 16:41

My Dh just got his second vaccine! He also got a sticker! He asked to keeper his little vaccine card as a memento! Grin

I hunkered down, and pleaded side effects for 48 hours, housework done for me, dinner cooked. In the end had none at all really, just a bit tired.

I posted this on the Good News 11 thread on 1 March:

"My marshall shifts are at a small pharmacy with 3 vaccinators. The maximum they're expected to do is just under 400 jabs a day in total. But they thought they could manage more so booked in another 125 people to see how it went...and they did it. So one small pharmacy did just over 500 jabs yesterday - really impressive."

After a couple of weeks off due to supply issues, I was back there yesterday. They did 730 jabs during the day! They're now doing double the standard allocation. The 3 pharmacists/vaccinators work from 8-8 with just a couple of short breaks; they're like super efficient vaccine ninjas! They are phenomenal and I'm so proud to be helping them.

And I was one of the 730 jabbed there yesterday as I was given my 2nd dose Smile

CornishYarg · 19/04/2021 17:02

Oh and I was a bit achy the day after my first jab but no issues today other than a tender arm. Which was a bit of a shame as I had the day off and was hoping for a good excuse to chill out and ignore the housework!

tobee · 19/04/2021 17:31

@CornishYarg 👍

lazymum99 · 19/04/2021 18:18

@tobee you are doing a fine job virtually on your own on the India variant thread!
Maybe just maybe you are knocking some sense into them.

Furries · 19/04/2021 18:58

@BigWoollyJumpers - am now 48 hours post-vaccine. No side effects apart from my arm feels like Joshua and Fury took turns punching it for a few minutes!

Nice work in getting the housework and dinner done for you!

Wescat · 20/04/2021 04:37

Thanks for bringing me back! Numbers are great! I just want my jab too!
