I just got the NHS call for the 2nd jab.

We will have to arrange to get back slightly sooner from the air bnb for this.

It feels like my diary is filling up Grin Grin

US is storming it. It’s so wonderful to see, for a number of reasons.

Furries · 08/04/2021 02:59

@MissConductUS

Just a bit of personal good news. Everyone over 18 years of age is now eligible for vaccination in New York and I was able to book jabs for my 21 year old son and 19 year old daughter this morning.
That’s great news, it was horrible seeing some of the coverage in the UK re NY last year.

Been a long time lurker on here but had to break cover to post this. Herd immunity level to be reached in Britain by Monday.

OrangeBananaFish · 08/04/2021 07:05

Monday!!! That's great.

Also various news sites saying about the vaccine is cutting cases. 60% drop since Feb according to a react report. Sorry can't link on phone.

That’s brilliant. Surely we will continue to be on track with the roadmap then. They can’t keep restrictions when we have herd immunity too!

Doesn't this mean that we could stop vaccinating now and there will be no community transmission? That's what herd immunity means, right? So even if vaccine take-up isn't very high in some groups unvaccinated people aren't at risk?

This seems to be at odds with other disease models that assume another wave in those unvaccinated once we re-open.

I'm confused (and possibly misunderstanding).

tobee · 08/04/2021 15:54

Just looked at the coronavirus board on mn to see if there was a thread about the herd immunity reports. Big fat no. Not a dicky bird. Tons of threads about topics I'm sure you can guess.

And people plop on this board accusing us of only reporting half the news! Hmm

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/04/2021 16:01

It definitely doesn't mean we can stop vaccinating as that is only really an educated theory/guess of what herd immunity would be. It does however mean that like you say if take up dips a little we are still in good shape.

As we already know now the vaccine helps to cut transmission. Therefore the more people done the less likely any new variant will manage to take hold. So far all the new variants have actually only been similar mutations to previous ones. Which means are vaccinated should have a certain amount of immunity to even new variants.

The models are worst case scenarios really but still a good warning that we need to stick to are guns. Once restrictions are lifted more we will see for sure what is what🤷‍♀️

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/04/2021 16:11

The stuff on some of those threads is ridiculous. Post with personal bias misinformation, entitled all GPs are this that and the other posts and just plain stuff to worry the already worried. I despair at the level of some posts.

Luckily out in the real world the headlines in today's newspapers were all very responsible really. Social media seems to be not to bad. People swapping funny memes about the low risk etc. Overall so far I am relieved about how balanced most people have been. Just wish mumsnet was as balanced. Though I always feel that is actually because the sensible people just don't post or stay away from them threadsGrin

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting we actually do stop although it would be an interesting experiment to see what would happen if we did...
TheChineseChicken · 08/04/2021 16:34

There is a lot of hysteria today about the blood clotting issue

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/04/2021 16:38

It is ok I know your not scaremongering.

The threads are getting to me today. Such a waste of energy.

Yes from a curiosity point of view it would be interesting

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/04/2021 16:48

It’s amazing how anxious a lot of people are managing to be given where we are and how good the news has been lately.

carolinesbaby · 08/04/2021 16:54

I keep hearing people say they're expecting another wave in the summer/autumn. I don't understand how? (Unless a mutation occurs that our vaccines don't work on).

tobee · 08/04/2021 17:20

For a start the "third wave" is currently only about modelling. Because is not happening yet. For a second thing, what is a "wave"? People talk in such broad strokes which is not very useful.

Bordois · 08/04/2021 17:49

If a wave means an increase in cases in the winter, then yes its likely - just as there is with most other respiratory illnesses.

One thing that's really pissed me off with covid is the new buzzwords that people like slinging around all over the place 😆 "exponential growth" "let rip" "waves"

Marguerite2000 · 08/04/2021 17:49

@Reachersloveinterest

A 'wave' can be very small, it really just means a detectable patteit doesn't necessarily mean going back to thousands of cases
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/04/2021 17:58

If there are still pockets of unvaccinated people clustered together rather than evenly spread out there could easily be waves amongst them. However it sounds like great progress is being made with some of the hesitant groups so I am hopeful that might be avoided.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/04/2021 21:43

Not so good news for me this evening. The pain from my on going medical issue got to much this evening. So had to call an ambulance. Currently waiting for the lovely doctor dealing with me to speak to the surgeons about best course of action.

I think it is a direct side effect to the AZ jab I am waiting to have in a few weeks. Might start a thread about it. The title will be something like 'AZ put me in hospital before I ever had it'. Think that is as reasonable Grin

EasterIssland · 08/04/2021 21:49

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum sorry to hear you’re not ok today. Hope they tell you soon what can be done so you feel better soon

Bordois · 08/04/2021 21:52

Hope you feel better soon Truely. Think you may be onto something with your future jab theory!

tobee · 08/04/2021 21:55

Ooh dear @Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum ! Hope you get answers soon!
