What happens about the unvaccinated ?

There is a lot of speculation about how many will buy into the continuing vaccination program. Some has said 20% won't but I'm sure it will be less than that. We don't know any would be refuseniks. But say it's 10% and suppose Covid will become stronger and therefore potentially more lethal and troublesome will that not lead to many more deaths and hospitalisations amongst this cohort and by doing so threaten the capacity of the hospital's once again ? Hopefully not of course does anyone know of any modelling around that outcome. Therapeutics of course will be of importance to lessen any resultant disease and persuading the currently unpersuaded remains of paramount importance. The stick of no vaccine no travel or no entry will be a great persuader no doubt as well.

What have I missed here??

@nannawend

Okay to have freedom of choice but don't expect a hospital bed if you get ill that would be taken from someone who has been on the NHS waiting list for a treatment for some time. Don't expect to get on an airplane and endanger people who have been responsible enough to get vaccinated to protect themselves AND others. Don't expect to come in to my shop and potentially contaminate me and my staff, who will all have been vaccinated. All choices in life have consequences and freedom to choose to put others at risk should result in those others deciding how they interact with you. I would also never employ a person who cannot prove to me they had not safeguarded themselves and their work colleagues.
why not expect a hospital bed, obese people to manage ok, those that smoke and get lung cancer, alcoholics etc. All self inflicted.

So are you denying people who have not been vaccinated access to your shop now? If not, why not? Why wait until it has been offered to everyone, or are you just seeking to punish people?
TonTonMacoute · 09/03/2021 18:44

Once everyone who wants the vaccine is fully protected it doesn't matter.

Those who are vaccinated are pretty safe and those who don't want the vaccine are free to take the risk of catching Covid - same as flu.

stablefeet · 09/03/2021 18:46

Are we going to get tattoo'd on the forehead so that shops don't have to examine our paperwork every time we want to enter?

WhiskyWhiskersdottir · 09/03/2021 18:49

The CDC have just released an updated Official Zombie Apocalypse Guide

Make of that what you will. Interesting timing though.

Wonder if the Raj-Singh manoeuvre has been refreshed.

MaxNormal · 09/03/2021 18:51

Idgaf what the unvaccinated do. Die quickly hopefully

Fuck you.

Vaccines prime your immune system to be able to fight off the real virus when you encounter it. This might mean that it never takes hold at all, or that you contract it but have much milder symptoms than you otherwise would have.

The initial trials of the Covid vaccines in current use focussed on measuring whether or not the people who’d had the vaccine became seriously ill but they didn’t test people to see whether they had the virus asymptomatically. Hence there wasn’t the evidence to prove that it prevented infection and transmission, just that it prevented serious illness. Public heath authorities worldwide took a very cautious line saying “we don’t know whether it prevents transmission, so you still need to observe social distancing once you’ve been vaccinated.” A lot of people interpreted that as meaning “the vaccine definitely doesn’t prevent transmission”.

Three months down the line we have a load of evidence in from real world sources to show that the vaccines do, as expected, lower the risk of being infected and transmitting the disease. But public health bodies are still being cautious with their messaging and you’ll still see a lot of people online repeating “the vaccine doesn’t actually stop you getting the virus, it just prevents you from being hospitalised”.

SpeakingFranglais · 09/03/2021 18:53

They take a chance that they won’t become seriously ill and die...

Hopefully those that can but won’t will take that chance to protect those that can’t.

Benjispruce2 · 09/03/2021 18:54

If you refuse the vaccine you should not be first in line for treatment.

murbblurb · 09/03/2021 18:58

Long covid. The terror of wondering if you or someone you care about might get really ill.

I am sorry for those who cannot be vaccinated. While I think it should be voluntary, the 'wont' cohort seem to be fools. Those still believing the ' not tested' and dangerous bullshit are oxygen wasters. Those believing the conspiracy theories. - here's hoping for Darwin.

doublehalo · 09/03/2021 18:58

All the mini Hitlers and armchair meglomaniacs really getting off on the thought they might be able to fuck someone over or kill someone by denying them medical care.

And they think some random unvaccinated person is a public danger??

They are fucking deranged!

MaxNormal · 09/03/2021 18:59

Sounds similar to "useless eaters". Heard that one before somewhere.

Thankfully not how the NHS works.
MaxNormal · 09/03/2021 19:00

@doublehalo its quite disturbing isn't it? Like some sort of collective fascist wank fantasy.

WineInTheWillows · 09/03/2021 19:01

@Benjispruce2

If you refuse the vaccine you should not be first in line for treatment.
And if you smoke, you should be at the back of the queue for cancer treatment , I suppose? Or if you drink alcohol. Or if you're overweight...

Talk about a slippery slope.

Benjispruce2 · 09/03/2021 19:02

This is a global pandemic that stopped everyday life. Everyone that can have it, should.

reformedcharacters · 09/03/2021 19:03

Those still believing the ' not tested' and dangerous bullshit are oxygen wasters

I’m baffled how anyone would not be swayed by such an educated and insightful comment.

doublehalo · 09/03/2021 19:06

Really disturbing.

I try to call it out when I have the energy. These people need to know that they are a very tiny minority and most people find their views extreme and abhorrent.

This whole "unvaccinated person = deadly biohazard" way of thinking can fuck off. Funny how the unvaccinated are only deadly once everyone has been offered the vaccine, and not now (kids included).
Inwiththenew · 09/03/2021 19:10

Based on current numbers of adverse reactions I think you’ll find it’s the other way around and the vaccinated are going to be the ones taking up hospital beds!

Source?
Globaliser · 09/03/2021 19:16

Why would you want to employ or associate with someone so stupid that they refused the vaccine? Let them sit around worrying about 5G phone masts on Facebook while we go on holiday.

XenoBitch · 09/03/2021 19:19

@Globaliser

Because some people have genuine concerns about the vaccine and/or its delivery. Rather than shame such people, why not try to gently educate them? Calling someone selfish wont make them roll their sleeves up.
Livelovebehappy · 09/03/2021 19:20

Of course people have the option not to have it. But countries also have the option to not allow people in who have not been vaccinated. If people are happy with that, and accept that they could be hospitalised if they catch the virus, then let them get on with it.
