Specimen dates for cases reported in England today

Wednesday 10th

First day of reporting 1553 added, up 42% on last week.

Tuesday 9th

Second day of reporting 3261 cases added taking two day total to 4705, marginally lower (2%) than the equivalent point last week.

Monday 8th

Third day of reporting 736 cases added, taking total to 5597, again remains just over 2% lower than equivalent last week.

Weekend

136 and 89 cases added respectively, both days 9% lower than equivalent last week.

Misc

The dashboard may have something about this. 201 cases added with spec dates between 21 November and 02 December.

Although in the bigger scheme of things for spec dates pre 1st March (this year) there was an overall reduction of 73 cases,

South Hams has zero cases for the fifth day in a row, I know there might be catch up but really encouraging looking at their daily stats and seeing all the zeros lined up.

Four more cases of Brazil variant found in England - south Gloucs and Bradford.

@boys3

I do wonder if the dashboard keep tabs on this thread as the welcome addition in tests has been suggested on here - by me and others.

Talking of additions the NHS weekly Announced vaccinations latest version out today now includes a breakdown at UTLA level for

  • vaccinations of residents and staff in older adult care homes, and,
  • vaccinations of social care staff

The breakdown of vaccinations in general and by age bands by LTLAs and MSOAs was added last week. In today’s release the numbers for the 60 to 64 group is now shown.

Where could I find this information please?

All I can see is raw numbers
Thank you

sorry, that's the PDF. If you want the excel with all the data, it's linked here -

@PatriciaHolm that's wonderful, thank you

Local news reporting on a care home in Exmouth where they have had 9 covid deaths. They had vaccinations on 18th Jan and started falling ill mid February. Very sad, very worrying.

ancientgran · 11/03/2021 18:34

Also reporting that over 80% of care home staff have had the vaccine in Devon and Cornwall.

JanFebAnyMonth · 11/03/2021 18:48

Is that the same care home outbreak which was discussed the other day on here, or another?

Firefliess · 11/03/2021 18:54

@JanFebAnyMonth

The one being discussed the other day was in Dorset I think. Not Devon.
ancientgran · 11/03/2021 18:56

No the Exmouth one is a different one. I think the other one might have been Sidmouth, I think there was one death there.

ancientgran · 11/03/2021 18:58

They have launched a police investigation into the Sidmouth care home. CQC also investigating. Not sure what is going on.

ancientgran · 11/03/2021 19:03

I can't find anything about the Exmouth home on line.

georgedawes · 11/03/2021 19:32

Sorry to but in but any idea why Derbyshire Dales has jumped so much? School testing maybe?

lurker101 · 11/03/2021 19:38

@georgedawes it seems to be a prison outbreak. Time to prioritise the prison staff and inmates I think

georgedawes · 11/03/2021 19:40

Thanks. How dreadful. Can't understand why on earth prisons and their staff haven't been a priority to date.

Doomsdayiscoming · 11/03/2021 20:05

@Doomsdayiscoming

The good start to the week continues for hospitalisations in England.

Last week saw 27.5% reduction (Saturday to Saturday).

This week so far: 570 less which is 7.1%. With 4 days to come. If these four days replicate today’s drop (396) it’ll be 396 x4 = 1584 + 570 = 2154 for the week. This will be a 26.8% drop. Hoping for a 30% drop, we’ll see.

476 less in hospital in England.

That makes it 1046 (13%) for the week starting Saturday. 3 days to go.

If 450 x3 then 1350 + 1046 = 2396 less, which would be 29.8% drop.

Feeling confident for a 30% drop.

Will probably be peak as a lot of the remaining patients are probably very unwell.

MRex · 11/03/2021 20:45

Because care homes for the elderly and then care homes for the young were prioritised above prisons. I think the time has come when it makes sense to do them as a job lot based on exposure risk and practicalities, but I don't think it would have been wise to have given them greater priority than those who were at more risk of death.
Bordois · 11/03/2021 20:50

Can you imagine the reaction if prisoners were prioritised over some professions...

Hardbackwriter · 11/03/2021 20:51

Presumably the other problem is that prison populations are a lot more fluid than the average care home? The staff aren't, so vaccinating them would be reasonably straightforward, but if the aim is to reduce outbreaks in prisons it'll be hard when you have new prisoners arriving.

JanFebAnyMonth · 11/03/2021 21:05

I know the partner of a prison officer and she says they're all locked up anyway so why should they need priority? Probably Priti Patel's take on it.....

TheSunIsStillShining · 11/03/2021 21:09

The problem with prioritizing prisons is that average joe would be appalled. I know that I would be without thinking. Then spending 10 seconds to see reason would do it for me. But this is not something "dm" readers will do.

And another thing that comes to everyone's mind automatically is that prison=punishment. So these ppl don't deserve a vacc, because they are being punished, hence they are bad. It's a very stupid logic, but I would think that basic instinct level thinking (if you can call it that) would be along these lines.

And a 3rd thing. prisoners do not have contact with the outside world. So vaccinating the staff would have been a very good step to preempt actual outbreaks

MyrtleBrown · 11/03/2021 21:41

As an open prison, sadly Sudbury's inmates do go out into the community for work. They also have a restaurant which is open to the public (just for takeaways at the moment). Word is they weren't

reporting symptoms so they can keep going out and not lose their earnings.

Quarantino · 11/03/2021 22:44

This is the Exmouth care home outbreak - 9 deaths, which is terrible.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-56366575

and apparently another one in a Torbay home, I'm told ancientgran - ?

So that's three in Devon. Should we be worried that the first dose of vaccine hasn't protected the Sidbury and Exmouth ones?

I'm also told a prison in the SW has an outbreak.
