Following the prime ministers announcement, the road map suggests that (subject to the usual caveats) we could be free of restrictions by end of June. Thoughts? Too soon? Not soon enough?

Would this really include social distancing which i thought would be in place for a good while yet? It sounds too good to be true.

FaithfullyYours · 22/02/2021 15:56

I could cry.
I'm feeling very emotional right now.. just knowing the end is in sight.
Wishing all the time between now and the 21st of June away nowBlush

It says all legal limits removed. As social distancing is not a legal issue, it might still be advised in supermarkets etc.

Personally I wouldn't be concerned about social distancing from strangers, although I know it is a big problem for businesses such as pubs if they have to limit numbers.

@Donoteatthekittens

New variant with a 100% death rate which the vaccines don’t work on will be found in May and we will back into lockdown...
Ugh wtf? What is the actual point to doom monger?!

Me too, which is awful because I have a baby and I don't want to wish her babyhood away. Hopefully things will start to feel a lot more normal, even before June, for example when restaurants and entertainment can open.

Could be. Only if all of the roadmap reviews continue to be positive. I'll believe each stage only when it happens.

freezingcoldsnow · 22/02/2021 16:01

Wouldn't it be amazing. Seems so far away and not possible in 4 months but I think that's because things are so different now and it can't be comprehended fully.

Survivingmy3yearold · 22/02/2021 16:01

I'd love this to be doable but I have a nagging feeling we're just repeating the same mistakes as last time and expecting different results. I know we have the vaccine but only 55% of vulnerable adults have had a first dose and most of those are past retirement age, leaving those vulnerable and of working age in a sticky spot with school back in full and employers expecting to open back up. I'm also concerned with people saying it's ok because it's March and therefore spring, despite the fact the first wave took off in March and we still have quite high numbers in comparison to where they have been.
I'm very happy to be wrong though, I'm done with home schooling and have a 4 month old that most of our families haven't met. I'd love to be able to get back to relative normality by then. I guess it's just a case of wait and see, but I'm really hoping this will be the last lockdown

The idea of it scares me to be honest. I expected social distancing and masks to be around for a long time.

I don't think it'll happen. Something will set us back between now and then... possibly opening all schools to all pupils in one go?!

AnnieP1 · 22/02/2021 16:04

@Donoteatthekittens OMG what a joy you are!!

SendMeHome · 22/02/2021 16:05

Didn’t he caveat that masks and social distancing weren’t included in the “all legal limits” part, and would be reviewed and we’d be updated before stage 3?

I was half listening at that point as I’m working but I thought that’s what he said.

Do you have a source for that? Or do you just want to piss on people's bonfires?
ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 16:05

Seems strange that they get rid of restrictions before all adults are vaccinated

peak2021 · 22/02/2021 16:06

Agree about the main restrictions, but I think face coverings indoors in many places should continue until all adults have been offered the vaccine (by late July).

SeldomFollowedIt · 22/02/2021 16:06

Ahh my sons birthday 🥳

God I hope it’s true.

Reported your comment - stupid insensitive thing to say!

I think it was just a flippant remark.

Nowt like thinking positive!
Magnificentmug12 · 22/02/2021 16:10

More cases, hospitalisation and deaths to come but not enough to keep people in and the economy closed. A horrible fact but it’s true.

I hope enough people continue to follow the rules so each target is hit and we can move on through the steps quickly.

June would be amazing and I for one would love that!

Siepie · 22/02/2021 16:10

I phoned my best friend in (happy) tears as soon as I saw the news!

I'm telling myself not to get my hopes up in case something goes wrong, but I'm also smiling from ear to ear!
